Chapter Six: Me against the world

~O~O~O~O~

This morning I woke up, already in a great mood. Yes, you guessed it. It was all because of the love letter. Also, the sun was shining.

Someone liked me! I, Bella Swan have a secrete admirer, but who? I shrugged that thought off, and went straight to the shower. It was only 6:40, so I had plenty of time. As soon as I was out, I went back to my room and walked over to my dresser.

I couldn’t decide what to wear. It took an entire twenty minutes to settle for a white ruffle blouse, black skinny jeans, and a pair of black ballerina shoes. To top it all off, I wore my favorite blue cardigan. It looked a little worn, because it is one of my favorites. I think Alice would be proud. Just in case she didn't approve--not that I needed her approval--I wore the friendship bracelet she gave me back when we first met.

I dried my hair with the towel. I've never had the patience to dry it with a blow dryer. I decided to wear it down today.

Before I walked out my bedroom, I grabbed my bag and a couple of books, but something caught my eye.

The letter was resting on top of my nightstand. I ran to get it. I wouldn’t want Charlie to ‘accidentally’ find the note and read it. That would be just be an awkward conversation with Charlie. I try to avoid those like the plague.

I picked the letter up, and with the tip of my finger I traced the words as I re-read it. I sighed, placed the letter inside its envelope and shoved it into my underwear drawer.

Walking down the stairs I almost tripped. Before I fell, I managed to steady myself. Giving Charlie a swift goodbye, I ran out the door.

On my way to school, I couldn’t help but wonder who my secret admirer could possibly be. It might have even been a prank...a not-so-funny prank.

Arriving at my destination, I parked next to Edwards Volvo, as usual, and walked straight to my first class. I found Edward already sitting at our table. I slumped into my chair next to him.

“Am I late?” I asked, turning around to face him.

“Nope. Class doesn’t start until--” The bell rang. “Now.”

“Good.” I said, relived. I took my biology book out of my bag, and started taking notes. “Oh no. The essay! It's due tomorrow, isn’t it?”

“Yes, but I’ll help you.” I thanked him. Five minutes into the class, he asked me, “Why were you running late? I was about to hunt you down.” He declared, in a sarcastic but yet serious tone.

He would probably be shocked if, if I told him I couldn’t find anything to wear. Besides, he wouldn’t believe me. “I overslept.”

“Oh.”

The class went on, and I managed to keep my mind off of the note, concentrating on the task at hand. Soon, the bell rang and we were out.

“Um...I forgot my Trig textbook.”

“Okay, I’ll meet you in class.” I nodded. His behavior slightly shocked me. Usually, Edward would insist on escorting me to my locker. I shrugged that thought away, and walked towards my locker.

Tyler was standing in front of my locker. I tried my best not to act rude, but what was he doing there? His next class was on the other side of campus.

"Hey Bella.”

“Hey Ty. What’s up?” I asked, really hopping this conversation would soon end.

“Nothing much.” I opened my locker, putting the forgotten book in my bag.

“You look nice today.” He stated. I was probably blushing. I kept my head in the locker.

“Ah...Thanks” I closed my locker and saw that he was still there, leaning against Adrie's locker.

“I was wondering,” He began. Was he trying to dazzle me? Only Edward could do that. “Bella did you get my note?” I froze.

What did he just say? “The note that...” He was my secret admirer? No!

“The... no...note?” I asked incredulous. He nodded. “You wrote that note?”

“Yes, the note I wrote to you. Did you get it? I Know it was probably too cheesy, but I really wanted--” I didn’t let him finish. I had to get as far away as I could.

“Ah... No. I haven’t...You know I better get going. I don’t want to be late...Yeah That’s it... Umm, see you around.” I turned and walked away. Okay, I ran. Tyler couldn't be the one.

I heard him call my name, but I kept going. Who where you expecting it to be? My conscious chided. I mentally kicked myself for thinking it could have been someone else. Thinking it could have been...Nah, he only saw me as a friend.

As I walked into class I saw Edward sitting at our usual table. I sat in my seat, while Edward cast an amused look in my direction.

“What?” I almost growled. I know Tyler's note was not his fault this, but this day had gone terribly wrong. Besides, he probably thought the overheard conversation was hilarious. Stupid mind reader!

“Nothing.” He replied with a soft chuckle. I scowled at him and decided to focus at the task at hand. Trig.

It was finally time for lunch. Knowing I was halfway through the day really helped my poor nerves. Going straight to the gang's table I plopped down, inwardly happy to see them.

“Bella, you seem as if you have seen a ghost? Are you alright?” Adrie asked.

“Yeah...Um, I’m fine.” I answered. Did Tyler just wink at me?

“Adrie, do you think that Bella is afraid of ghosts? She holds company with dangerous mystical creatures everyday. Shouldn't she be used to this kind of stuff by now?” Adrie and I automatically rolled our eyes at Emmett's not so funny comment. However, I knew he was right.

“So Bella, how was your day?” Alice chirped. And here I thought she could see the future.

“It was okay.” I said as I played with my food, not really hungry.

“What’s up with Tyler today?” Edward asked. His face was twisted into a knowing smirk. I wanted to wipe it off his pretty face more than anything. I turned to see that Tyler was standing two tables away from us, looking straight at me. He waved, and I forced my face into a smile, waving back. I groaned, facing my so-called “friends” to find them fighting laughter. Jake, of course, was the first to explode, followed by the others.

Why again did I come to lunch?

“You know, Tyler is a nice guy. If he asked me to Homecoming, I wouldn’t mind going with him.” I declared, biting Alice's unused apple. I had a grin on my face, satisfied with their reaction.

Alice and Adrie both gasped in shock. Did Edward just growl?

“Hey Bella,” I turned to confirm my suspicion, and instantly regretted my words.
