He walked over to the window next to my bed and hesitantly turned around. I walked up to him and wrapped my arms around his waist and buried my face in his chest.
"Go, Edward. I'll be fine." I assured him.
He leaned down and placed a tender kiss on my head. I stood there, stunned. He just smiled at me and jumped out the window.
I stood there for a few minutes before I got ready for school.
I was walking downstairs to get breakfast, when I remembered that Charlie was still asleep. I ran straight to his room. I walked in and was next to his bed in seconds. I shook him and he rolled over falling on the ground.
"Ow." He groaned as I shook my head.
"Dad, get up. You need to go to work."
"We don't need the money."
"I know but we still need to keep up appearances.." I walked over to him and picked him up. I sat him down on the bed and he could barely stay up. "Sorry about this Dad." I said to him then I brought my hand back as far as I could and then I slapped him as hard as I could.
"Ow!" He yelled as he fell on the bed.
"Sorry. That was the only way to wake you up." I told him as he rubbed his cheek.
"You almost knocked my head off."
"Sorry. But you really do to go to work."
"I'm up, don't slap me again. I'll go to work."
"I can't believe have to scare you to get you to go to work." I said laughing.
"You didn't need to."
"Yes I did, and you know it."
"Just get all of your things and go to school."
"Already done. I just have to start the truck. Besides, you know I won't be late. I can get there in seconds."
"Yes and it's all because you fixed up that ancient thing. I don't understand why you don't just buy a new one, Bella."
"Because I like my truck, and I'm so used to it now that I can fix whatever is wrong with it. Plus I don't want to stand out, like the Cullens are."
"How do they stand out?"
"They all drive the new cars, dad. Or at least they look new, and trust me, they're fast."
"How would you know?"
"I don't know, it's the kind of car they have. I didn't even see the actual car being driven, but if I have to guess, they're the ones that own the shiny silver volvo."
"Volvo, sounds like a good car for you."
"Dad!"
"Sorry, force of habit. Why don't you head over to school now."
"Okay, and Dad?"
"Yeah, Bells?"
"You can always come to me when you have that dream about Mom."
"I know. Now go."
I ran to the door with my bag, jacket, and two granola bars in my hand. I put my jacket on and ran out into the rain for my truck.
As I drove to school I ate one of the granola bars and noticed the Volvo was already at school, but everyone was still inside the car, like they were waiting for something.
I parked a few spots away from it and gathered all of my things. I got out and started walking to one of the picnic tables out front. As I passed by the Volvo on the way, I could hear that the people inside the car were fighting.
I smiled to myself and sat down to read and began eating my second granola bar.
Half-way through the granola bar I heard my name come from the car.
"I told you, I promised Bella I wouldn't say anything. And I want to gain her trust!" I heard Alice tell who I guessed were the rest of the Cullens.
"We understand that but we need to know what she knows. Because she obviously knows more than most people." I heard whom I guessed was Rosalie telling her this.
I rolled my eyes and walked over to the car. I knocked on the window and the bickering inside stopped. The window rolled down and everyone looked at me.
"You guys do know I can hear you all the way over there, right?" I asked pointing over to the picnic table I was sitting at earlier.
"Um actually no we didn't. We didn't even know you were here." Edward said sheepishly.
"Well I've been here long enough to eat half of this." I lifted up my granola bar to show them.
"What did you hear?"
"Just that Alice wants to gain my trust and that Rosalie thinks that you deserve to know."
"At least you know I haven't said anything to them. Edward doesn't even know." Alice said smuggly.
"But you will tell me soon." Edward told me.
"Okay two things. One, Edward you will know soon, I hope. Two, Alice she's right. They do have a right to know, but they have to wait until I'm ready."
"Ready for what?"
"Ready to trust you with my biggest secret."
"You already trust me." Edward said looking deeply in my eyes.
"Yes I do. Just not enough." I broke the connection and turned around to go gather my things. People were beginning to show up and the lot was getting full.
"Bella wait!" I heard him yell from behind me before I heard the car door open.
"What do you want Edward?" I asked turning around.
"I just want to know, what would you be called crazy for? It's hard for me not knowing." He looked at me with smoldering eyes, begging me for the answer.
"Cant you at least wait for lunch? It's not long." I said breathlessly.
"To me that's forever to wait."
"No it's not. You know what forever really feels like. That's how long I've been searching."
"For what?"
"Something I don't think I need to any more." I whispered smiling.
"Is it a person?"
"Yes."
"Who?"
"Not saying." I said nonchalantly
"Why not?"
"I don't want to." I ran at a human pace to my first class grabbing my things on the way, "The bell is going to ring soon."
I was walking to my first class when I felt someone following me. "Edward, why are you following me?"
"I'm not Edward and we have our first class together." I heard Alice's voice come front behind. I stopped and let her catch up.
We started talking as we walked to class. We stopped when there was a crowd surounding some kids. I didn't recognize them but I did know they were fighting.
"Maybe we should go." Alice said worriedly, but it was too late, one of them threw a punch and hit the other right in the nose causing it to bleed.
As soon as the scent hit me I covered my mouth and stopped breathing.
"Bella lets get out of here quick." She looked at me and gasped.
I was sure my eyes were either a brown so dark it almost black or a deep burgandy like a human eating vampire. I have had them since the attack from the vampire I thought was my friend. I even knew they were a vampire because they told me when they realized I was not human. Now if I smell blood I get vampire eyes.
Alice didn't know what was going on, just that as soon as the boy started having a nose bleed I covered my nose and my eyes changed color.
I ran as fast as possible, for a human, to my truck.
I got in and took several deep breaths. I closed my eyes and layed my head back on the seat.
After a few seconds I heard someone knock on the window.
Slowly, I opened my eyes and looked over to find Alice glaring at me through the window.
I lifted my shield and yelled at Edward, Save me from Alice, please! I'm in my truck and I think she is going to kill me!
I put my shield back down and backed up in my seat looking at Alice scared.
Then, out of nowhere, two pale arms wrapped around Alices waist and restrained her.
"Edward let me go." Alice said angrily at the person behind her as she struggled.
"No. You can come out now." I heard an angelic voice say. I smiled and stepped out of the cab.
"Thanks. I was scared she was going to break my truck beyond repair."
"It was no problem, but now you have something else to explain."
"What?"
"How did I hear you?"
"I don't really want to expain that one."
"Why not?"
"I just don't."
"She has something else to explain." Alice looked like she was about to break free.
"What would that be?" Edward asked.
"Her eyes."
"What do you mean Alice? My eyes are the same as always." I said innocently.
"They turned red."
"No they didn't. They have always been brown." Technically it wasn't a lie, I've never seen them turn red, only Charlie's.
"Then why did you run?"
"I was about to be sick." I lied smoothly.
"How? You barely saw the blood."
"I could smell it." I said thinking back to my human life.
"What?"
"I can smell blood."
"How?"
"I don't know. I have been able to for as long as I can remember. It smells like rust and salt."
"Oh."
"Now if you don't mind we're late for class."
I turned and walked out of the empty lot towards the school.
"Go to second hour." I heard Edward say from my truck still.
Great, I thought, I spent first hour hiding from Alice in my truck.
I stopped in front of the door to my class and listened. The teacher was giving a lecture, so I decided to wait out here until class ended. I sat down on the ground and put my umbrella up, it was about to rain, again.
As I waited, I felt someone come up beside me and sit down. "What are you doing out here?"
"I could ask you the same thing, Edward. At least I'm in front of my class, you aren't."
"Actually I am." He told me.
"Where were you yesterday? I didn't see you." I asked.
"I skipped some of my first classes."
"Why?"
"I had to do something." He answered.
"More important than meeting the new girl?" I accused.
"I didn't know what classes we had together, and I was back for lunch so I could see what you looked like." He said laughing.
"Well at least you were there for Jessica describing you and your family." I was smiling as I said this. It was nice to know that Me and Edward could just talk and feel comfortable about anything we had a conversation about.
"Don't believe anything she says," He said seriously, gazing in my eyes. My heart skipped a beat. "It isn't that I don't date, it's that I've never found someone good enough for me. She'd asked me about twenty times, seven of which were her just trying to seduce me. Thank goodness I stopped the last one before it started."
"What was she going to do?"
"Bend over in front of me to grab something she dropped on the floor intentionally and make it seem like her breat fell out of her shirt."
I burst out laughing. Just the thought of it was funny. "Oh my goodness. She was really going to do that?"
He nodded. "She planned it all out in her head."
"Wow. I can actually imagine her doing that."
As I was laughing I heard him join in. We laughed for several minutes and when our laughter died down the bell was about to ring. I gathered my things and Edward stood up.
When the bell rang and kids started to come out of the door, Edward offered me his hand. I smiled and took it. He lifted me onto my feet and smiled.
I smiled back and thanked them for his politeness. I had noticed that people were watching us, mainly boys.
He dropped my hand and told me he'd walk with me to my next class.
We didn't talk or touch the way there, but we were comfortable with it.
When we reached the door, he lifted my hand up to his lips and kissed it before dropping it again and going to his next class. I smiled and went to go sit down at my desk, thinking only about Edward and his electric touch.
