12. New Girl-Jake's POV
Rating 5/5 Word Count 2535 Review this Chapter
I got to school that morning before practically everyone else. So I decided to just stand by my truck until more people came to school. I know that sounds really lame, but I really didn’t want to go into the school yet, so standing around stupidly sounded good to me. Don’t ask me why I was so early today, because I don’t even know myself.
While standing by my truck like a total loser, a shiny red Mini Cooper pulled into the parking lot two rows away from me. The person inside of the car didn’t get out.
I saw Alex pull in. He got out of his car and looked in my direction. When he noticed me standing there, he slightly waved at me. I nodded back. Obviously, it’s been kind of awkward between him and me, considering that he stole my true love, Nessie.
As if on cue, Nessie pulled into the lot, right next to where Alex parked. She got out, and Alex greeted her the same way that he did yesterday, with a hug and a kiss. I wanted to gag right then and there. He knew I was standing here and was totally just doing that in front of me to make me jealous! That made me want to go punch him, but that would make Nessie upset, which I didn’t want to make her upset. So instead I just stood there, watching them kiss each other, and that made me be like a creepy pedophile. Yep. That’s me. Call the cops.
The person who came here in the red Mini Cooper finally got out of the car. It was a girl with straight, medium-length, brunette hair. Her shirt had the word "love" all over it, her jeans were light blue and had rips everywhere, and she had on a pair of pink Converses. This girl also had a huge smile on her face. Jeez! Somebody was happy today!
Anyways, her outfit made her look pretty darn hot! Whoa! Did I just think that random girl look hot? Those thoughts need to disappear fast! I’m in love with Nessie. I love her, always have, always will.
Alex and Nessie started walking towards the school, which meant that they had to walk past the new girl. The girl saw them, and walked right up to them, and was now in step with them. I also started walking and was close behind Nessie, Alex, and the new girl. Nessie didn’t notice me, which I didn’t like. I’m starting to think that she doesn’t love me anymore. I know that I should’ve realized that when she broke up with me, but I didn’t. I think this is all a phase of hers.
She’ll realize that she still loves me and not that meat-head of a guy, Alex. And just to make this a little entertaining for me, I’ve been sending her mixed signals, by pretending to be happy-go-lucky. But really, I’m the opposite of that right now. My heart aches with out her by my side. But that's for me to know, and for her to soon figure out.
Anyway, back to the new girl. I wasn’t close enough to hear their actual conversation, but just by their hand gestures and stuff like that, I can figure it out. She was introducing herself (I didn’t catch her name,) and then Alex and Nessie introduced themselves. Nessie must have mentioned that Alex and her were going out, because she slipped her hand through Alex’s and then I heard the girl say really loud, "You guys are the cutest couple!" Her voice was cute, because it had a Oklahoma accent to it. Jeez! She’s hot and has a cool accent! Bonus! Whoa, again Jake! Knock it off those kind of thoughts!
They talked a little more, than walked into the school. I also walked into the school, shortly after them.
My first class of the day was Study Hall. I went into the classroom, and the teacher, Mr. Hathaway, was at his desk. I picked out a desk in the back of the room sat down, and took out a magazine, because I had nothing else to do. I started to read an article about football player being interviewed when Mr. Hathaway cleared his throat. I looked up to see what he had to say.
"Attention students. We have a new student joining us today, and will be in first hour Study Hall for the rest of the year. Elisa," Mr. Hathaway said and gestured towards the girl I saw from outside before with Alex and Nessie.
"Pick a which ever seat you want. There are no assigned seats in my study hall class, so you can pick whatever seat you want each day." he said, then sat back down at his desk.
Elisa looked around the room. There were a whole bunch of empty seats, because we didn’t have a lot of people in Study Hall this morning because people had Band class today.
I looked down and continued reading the football star interview from before Elisa came in. When I was about halfway through the article, someone tapped me on my arm. I looked up to see who was bothering me and saw Elisa standing right next to me with the same big smile on her face.
"Hi, um, is this seat taken?" She asked and pointed to the one across from me, right where she was standing.
"No, not at all." I said, and looked back towards my magazine, really wanting to finish the article. Elisa tapped me on the arm again. Jeez, can’t she see I’m trying to read this?!
"Hi. I’m Elisa, like Mr. Hathaway already said." She said, extending her arm for a friendly handshake greeting.
"Hey," I said, shaking her hand. "I’m Jacob Black. But you can call me Jake."
"Its nice to meet you. Whoa! Your hand is extremely warm!" Elisa exclaimed, turning my hand around looking at it, acting like just looking at my hand would explain for it’s warmth.
"Yeah, I get that a lot." I smirked, taking my hand away from hers.
"Well that's really cool in my book."
"So, Elisa, where are you from?" I asked as if I couldn’t already tell by her accent.
"Well, I’m originally from Oklahoma, but we just move her a few days ago because my dad was transferred for his job."
"Oh cool. So do you live here in Forks or in the La Push area?"
"I live here in Forks." Elisa answered.
"Oh, well I live in La Push."
"Isn’t there a school in that area?"
"Yeah, but I wanted to go here instead." I said.
"So, have you lived around here your whole life?" Elisa asked.
"No. I’ve moved around, just like you." I sort of lied, yet telling some truth.
"So, do you like it here so far? I saw you talking to Nessie and Alex earlier." I said, changing the subject.
"I think it’s pretty cool here so far. Alex and Renesmee are cool too. They’re really friendly and welcoming to me. Are you guys friends?"
"Kind of. Alex and I aren’t really that close of friend lately, but Nessie and I go way back." I put emphasis on the word "way" because it was true.
"Really? How? If you don’t mind me asking." Elisa asked me, looking curious.
"No, it’s okay. I’m willing to explain." I paused making sure I wouldn’t say anything to revealing. The last thing we needed was for another person to know about my secret world. "Well, Nessie and I have been best friends since early childhood and then she moved and it broke my heart. When she left, it was like she took a little piece of my heart with her. And when she moved back not too long ago, I told her that I’m in love with her. We went out for a few weeks and then she told me we needed a break and asked out Alex not more than five days ago. So you can only imagine how I feel right now. And as you can see, Alex and I aren’t buddy-buddy anymore." I quickly explained, leaving out many details. I looked down, feeling embarrassed, because I just told Elisa, a girl I just met, about my Nessie and me. Who does that?! Oh yeah, that’s right, me.
Elisa surprised me by taking my hands into hers. "It’s okay Jake. You don’t need them if they’re going to treat you like that. You’ve got yourself a new best friend right here." she smiled and pointed to herself. I looked up and she looked right into my eyes.
"Thanks, but I’m not just going to dump my friends and forget about them." I said, sort of offended by her words.
"Oh, okay. I understand." Elisa said. She suddenly dropped my hands and I could’ve swore that she had a disappointed look on her face before she turned back towards her desk. I had a feeling I wasn’t supposed to see that look.
Being super confused, I went back to reading the football player article. I finally finished it when the bell rang for second hour. I shoved my magazine into my folder, stood up, walked out of the classroom door, and started walking down the hall towards my next class.
"Hey Jake! Wait up!" Elisa shouted as she jogged up from behind me. "I’m sorry for what I said before I ramble when I’m nervous and I was obviously nervous around you."
"It’s okay." I paused. "Why are you nervous around me?" I asked, stuffing me hands into my pockets. I looked down at my feet for a second, then looked back up.
"You really wanna know?"
"Okay then," pause. "I got nervous around you, because...well because its you. You’re so nice and interesting to me. I could stare at you all day and never get bored." Elisa confessed. I shifted my feet and tried to think of a response for Elisa’s words.
"Well I’m defiantly flattered, but you sound like a creeper when you say that. So I suggest you don’t say that to people often." I teased, not wanting to say a real response.
"I didn’t mean it like that!" Elisa laughed and playfully smacked my arm.
"Ow!" I laughed with her.
"Well you deserved it!"
"Sure, sure." I said, saying my signature phrase.
"I gotta get to class, so maybe I’ll see ya later." Elisa said with what looked like a flirty expression.
"Yeah, maybe if you’re lucky."
"Well then I hope today’s my lucky day." Elisa winked. Then she turned the corner and strutted down the hall. And I just stood there like a weirdo, starring after her. She flirted with me and I’m pretty sure I might have flirted back. Didn’t I say before that I love Nessie and only her? But I don’t love Elisa. I guess kinda like her.
I got to biology class before Mia and Nessie got there, but Alex was already in his spot. I sat down, wondering if Elisa would be in this class. So far, the only class Elisa had with me was Study Hall.
I saw Elisa a few times today in the hall. Every time we’d walk past each other, she’d give me the most flirtatious smile I have EVER seen! And when she’d give me that smile, I’d wink at her. What’s wrong with me?! I thought once you’d imprinted on somebody, then you don’t think of other girls in a special way! I shouldn’t be flirting with Elisa, but I can’t help it. Maybe all it takes is a little bit of will power...
Nessie and Mia walked in and both sat down in their spots. I realized how ironic it was that the four of us, Alex, Nessie, Mia, and myself all sit next to each other. Nessie let out a small, quiet laugh, and Mia, Alex, and I all gave her questioning look. She shrugged and everyone looked away...except for me. I just couldn’t. Our eyes met and a warm electric shock went through my body. It made me feel guilty for flirting with another girl, so I looked towards the front of the room at the teacher, Mr. Miller.
"Good afternoon class. We have a new student joining out biology class and her name is Elisa....Um, what is your last name again?" Mr. Miller asked Elisa, who was standing by him in the front of the classroom.
"I don’t have a last name. And why does it matter if I have a last name or not?" Elisa asked, crossing her arms across her chest. Mr. Miller looked confused by Elisa’s sudden outburst, and I was too. Where did that tiny mental breakdown come from out of Miss. Flirt?!
"Okay, anyway, Elisa welcome to the class! Your assigned seat is in front of Mr. Jacob Black." Mr. Miller said, gesturing to the seat in front of, and next to the kid already at the table, Cameron. Elisa smiled, as if she was happy to be sitting in front of me. She walked down the aisle and over to her seat.
Before she sat down, she turned towards me and I smiled a flirtatious smile at her, and she seemed to get my smile, because her smile got bigger.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Nessie looking totally confused and outraged at Elisa and me. She must’ve seen us just flirt right in front of her. Oops. That was a mistake on my part. But why should Nessie care who I flirt with? She broke up with me! So I should be able to flirt with who ever I want to!
When class ended, Alex and Nessie walked out together. Just to prove to myself that I could do whatever I wanted to, I offered Elisa if I could walk her to her next class, and she accepted.
We walked and talked about how her first day went so far. When we got to her next class, she stopped, and turned towards me.
"Thanks for what?" I asked, confused. Was she saying ‘Thanks’ for me walking her to her next class...or for something else?
"Thanks for making my first day here the best day I’ve ever had! Because of you, I want to come to school tomorrow." Elisa paused for just a quick second. She went on her tip-toes and kissed me on the cheek. She smiled and walked into her classroom.
I turned to got to my next class. I put my hand up to my cheek, where I could still feel the spot where Elisa kissed me.
The rest of the day flew by very fast. I kept thinking about Elisa and her kiss. I also thought about Nessie and what I was going to do about her. I drove home from school, totally confused on what I should do. Should I tell Elisa that somebody else has already stolen my heart, and will keep it forever? Or should I give Elisa a chance, like Nessie did with Alex. I hoped everything would be figured out soon....
