Chapter 6

A few days later:

“Thanks for doing this Alice.” I said after a long costume planning session.

“No problem. It’s what I do. Anyways I have run out of projects to ‘waste’ my time on. When can I do the first fittings?”

“How about next Saturday?”

“Great. I’ll call you later.”

LATER:

“Hi Bella!”

“Uh Alice? I don’t think that I am up to going to the concert this weekend.”

“Oh no you don’t, you are going to go to that concert and you are going to enjoy it. Besides you need the girl time.”

“Fine,” I said knowing that I would never win an argument against Alice.

“Yay! We will leave right after school on Friday and stay in a hotel.”

“Okay. Can you pick me up before school?”

“Uh, sorry I can’t,” she said hesitantly.

“Why?” I knew something was up.

“Um…”

“Okay since you won’t tell me I will just ask Edward for a ride.”

I heard a quiet: “It’s all right,” from the behind me. I turned around and mouthed thanks to the angel in my doorway.

“I have to go Alice.”

“Okay.”

“Bye.”

“Bye,” responded a high voice.

I hung the phone up and turned back around to face the vampire watching me.

“How long have you been standing there?”

“A while,” he said with a smile. I briefly recalled when I had asked him about how long he had been seventeen. He responded the same way.

I walked past him and into the kitchen to prepare my dinner. Edward watched me.

“Am I really that interesting?” I asked.

“Yes.”

I finished and sat next to him at the counter. “So what did you guys do while Alice was pulling Angela and I around?”

“Well…we went sightseeing,”

“Really?”

“Yeah, we looked at cars.”

“Why?”

“Angela and Ben came to London on a shuttle from the airport so Jasper and I helped get him a good car at a good price.”

“Interesting.”

Neither of us brought up the conversation in the meadow. I stood up, washed the dishes, and went to take a shower. After that I packed my extra pajamas, 2 sets of clothes (one for Saturday, the other for the concert), some hair and makeup stuff, and my toiletry bag. I also packed my ipod, laptop and a bunch of books into a light purple duffle bag with the rest of my stuff.

The next morning Edward pulled into the spot right next to Alice’s Porsche after a silent car ride. Luckily Alice was just getting out so I could put my stuff into her trunk with her four matching tan leather suitcases. I raised an eyebrow at them.

“Just in case,” was all Alice said in response.

The day passed quickly and uneventfully and before I knew it I was singing to Taylor Swift in Alice’s car on the freeway.

“You were right Alice.”

“About what?”

“This is fun.”

“I knew it,” she said before starting to sing Teardrops on My Guitar which was her favorite song.

We pulled into The Eye. The hotel looked expensive and probably was. We checked in and went up to the Master Suite.

“Alice…” I said in a warning voice when we reached the cedar door.

“I know, I know but I didn’t listen.” She opened the door and I gasped. The furniture was gold and cream and the walls sparkled in the sun just like Alice. We went to our separate rooms, which matched the first one, and unpacked.

“Let’s go get some dinner,” Alice said as she popped into my room.

I pretended to choke like I did every time she says anything that had to do with her eating human food. I also did it once to Edward. I almost got lost in the memory when I head Alice’s tinkling laugh.

“Come on Bella,” she said while pulling me to the door. Since we hadn’t changed out of our jeans I hoped that we weren’t going to go somewhere fancy.

Alice pulled into a parking space at McDonald’s, and I rejoiced. 4.87 minutes later I sat with a McChicken, medium fries, and root beer in front of me. Alice watched me eat.

What is with vampires watching me eat?

Geez.
