A New Start

Chapter 9

“The winner is … Bella Swan,” the judge handed me a check, and the crowd yelled with all their might. I was so happy as I raced to put on my final costume. It was a strapless, A-line, knee-length, black dress with pink trim at the top and bottom of the dress. There was also a pink belt. Alice curled my hair as I put my black pumps on.

“I can’t believe that I won!” I exclaimed.

“Neither can I. I mean I knew that you were awesome but I never imagined this,” I specifically told Alice not to look into the future to see if I won or not because I thought that that would be cheating.

Alice then removed my natural make up and put really dark eye shadow on, mascara, light pink lipstick, and some lip gloss.

The song I was performing was a song that I had written about two weeks ago and it would answer Edward’s unanswered question. I walked onstage for the last time, plugged my black electric guitar into the amplifier and started to sing.

I looked straight at Edward and he seemed to understand that he should pay attention to the lyrics.

I throw all of you stuff away

This was one of my favorites even though it was a little harsh on Edward at times, but he deserved it for nearly killing me.

Once I finished the crowd was screaming and clapping like there was no tomorrow. Alice and I headed to the after party where I was congratulated left and right. We ate snacks, well I did, and danced for hours before returning to Alice’s house.

A certain vampire family was there when I arrived. I screamed and ran to hug each of them, even Jasper who had gotten over his aversion of me. I walked to Edward and hugged him too but he pulled back and kissed me. A kiss filled with happiness. We pulled away after a few seconds and he said: “I loved your songs. They were perfect.”

We both remembered the events that led up to the song Fearless and started to laugh. Then we all went inside and talked until I fell asleep in Edward’s arms.

This was the first night in a while that I had not fallen asleep crying. This time I fell asleep happy and content.

Luckily the next day was the first day on winter break so I was able to sleep in. And I did. I spent the greater part of the break laughing with Emmett, eating the amazing food Esme made, getting lost in Alice’s closet, improving my friendship with Rosalie, and cuddling with Edward. All in all it was a very good vacation.

When Christmas arrived I gave each family member a CD with songs that represented them, I gave Esme an apron that said “bite me”, to Carlisle, the latest medical history book, Rosalie, a pair of pumps I saw her eyeing, Alice, a skirt that when she had gone to try it on they didn’t have her size, Emmett, the game Mario Kart, Jasper: a quill from the 1860’s, and finally Edward, a version of Claire de Lune on the guitar.

In return I got a digital camera from Esme and Carlisle, a scrapbook of all our good times together from Alice and Jasper, a 25 pound joke book from Emmet, who laughed so hard when he saw me try to carry it I thought he would “pee in his pants”, a hand woven European belt from Rosalie, and a note from Edward.

That was probably why he wasn’t there at the time. I was about to leave when Esme handed me a letter. It didn’t have a return address but did have my name and mailing address, which was Alice’s address. I opened it, read it, and then fainted right there in the hallway.
