The rain drizzled down the window, creating a trail of stray droplets of water that were separated from the main streak. The pitter-patter of rain was the only thing that could be heard, other then the occasional shuffle of Bella, who was asleep next to me. I wrapped my arms around her waist, guarding her from whatever evil trying to force it’s way into her life. I was her protector, the one she turned to for help, help that I gladly gave her. Nothing else could satisfy me then the grateful smile Bella would give me after I would save her from a deathly fall down the stairs, for example. Defending and being around Bella were basically the two things I lived for. What else would fill my hollow, dreary life otherwise?

I leaned down from my propped up position and planted a light kiss on her forehead. She smiled in her sleep and shifted positions so that she was closer to me. I grinned and stroked a stray lock of hair out of her face. Bella never failed to amuse me. How she would constantly blush about trivial things, how she refused with a passion whenever I tried to buy her anything, how she reacted to me even in her sleep. It’s as if our love bound us even when she wasn’t conscience. My Bella…How could I live with out you?

Bella stirred again, not as calm as before either. Her brow furrowed and she squirmed in her covers. I became alert instantly, studying her every action. She tensed up and mumbled inaudibly, even with my sensitive hearing.
“Nothing…nothing…” she stammered in her sleep. She clutched at the bed sheets and shook her head. “Where? Edward, where are you?” My non-beating heart strangled it’s self at those words. Was I gone in her dream? Why would she dream that? Did she doubt my love for her? I stroked her arm in an attempt to calm her down.

“Shh…Bella, it’s alright,” I whispered in her ear. She seamed to calm down at my words but she was wasn’t at ease. A sob racked her body. I just sat there, not knowing what to do. Should I wake her up? Should I hold her?

I hesitantly shook her shoulder. She didn’t seem to notice and kept on dreaming.

“Bella,” I muttered a little too loudly. I heard Charlie rustle in his bed, but ten settled back down. What was that? It sounded very familiar…Probably just delusional, what time is it? One thirty? Jeez…

After Charlie was back asleep, I tried to comfort Bella again. But before I could move, and that was a first for me, Bella popped up like a jack-in-the-box. She sat up strait and looked wildly around. When her eyes landed on me, she seemed to relax. She flopped back down to make her self comfortable again.

“Bella?” I asked nervously. She didn’t meet my eyes and instead gazed out the window. “Did you have a nightmare?” I asked even thought I knew the answer.

“It was nothing really,” Bella quickly. She looked at me reassuringly. But she wasn’t fooling anyone. “It’s nothing new at least,” she added in, trying to reduce my worry. I looked at her anxious.

“What was it about?” I prodded, ready to keep on prodding if I had to. She sighed in resignation. She obviously recognized my look and realized that trying to keep it from me would be hopeless. She glanced back at me, but then adverted her eyes.

“Well,” she started and then began to play with the corner of her quilt. “I was in the forest again,” the edge of the quilt Bella was playing with twisted and turned as she fumbled with it. “And I was running away from nothing, I don’t know what though.” She swallowed and then peered at me from the corner of her eye, gauging my reaction so far. “There was nothing all around me, just trees and ferns. I was all alone,” she whispered and stopped fumbling the quilt. “I looked for you, but you weren’t there,” she said quietly. I moved my hand so it was on top of hers. She looked at it for a few seconds before moving on. “I tried screaming for you, but you didn’t show up. I woke up when…” she trailed off, clearly not wanting to continue. I nodded encouragingly. “I woke up when a red streak flash right by my face.” I instantly knew who she was referring to. I growled softly as thoughts of that horrible, vile monster ran through my head. Bella was staring at the floor, guilty for sharing her dream. “It was just a dream. It’s not like it’s real or anything,” she said quickly, but mostly to her self it sounded like. I pulled her in closer to me, trying to reassure her.

“You’re safe with me,” I whispered in her ear. She nodded and then snuggled in closer to me. She sighed and then closed her eyes. Her breathing wasn’t even though. “Bella,” I whispered. She didn’t move. “Bella, I know you are still awake,” I said through chuckles. She sighed in resignation.

“I can’t go back to sleep,” she muttered. I laughed and sat up. She sat up with me. “What do you want to do?” she asked eagerly. I rolled my eyes.

“Well, you should sleep,” I said teasingly. She snorted in response. “But since you claim that you can’t, I guess we can do something else.” Her face lit up. “Want to go over to my house?” I suggested.

“What about Charlie?” she asked a little worried.

“We have a few hours,” I said waving the matter off. Bella shrugged and then swung herself off the bed. I got off and picked her up and placed her on my back. She started to protest but then I reminded her of the two story drop to the ground. She muttered a few incoherent words in resignation. It sounded something like ‘Stupid perfect vampire who knows everything…’. I laughed at that. If only she knew…I was going to lift the window open when thoughts bombarded my mind.

I can’t wait to see that stupid girl dead. No, I can’t wait see to see him when she is dead… Revenge…it’s sweet to think about. I wonder where George is. He should be there by now…

I didn’t waste a second. Victoria was there…and she had friends.

I lifted Bella off my back and placed her on her bed. She looked at me, confused by my expression. I locked the window and dialed my home phone in my cell phone. It didn’t surprise me when Alice picked up the phone after half a ring.

“Hello?” Her peppy voice ran through my ear.

“Alice?” I asked eagerly. “Get Emmett, Jasper and Carlisle down here,” I said quickly. Alice was quiet for a few moments before speaking up.

“Sure thing,” she said before hanging up the phone. After putting my cell phone away I sighed and sat next to Bella. She was still wearing her puzzled expression, but she was patient.

“What’s wrong, Edward?” she asked calmly. But I heard her heart beating wildly. That was always her dead give away. But her anxiousness worried me.

“Victoria,” I growled in response. A small ‘Oh’ formed on Bella’s lips and she moved closer to me.

“Charlie!” Bella gasped as her eyes snapped towards her back wall. I placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder, hoping that it would calm her.

“He’ll be okay, Bella,” I said, my voice filled with confidence. “We’ll take the fight outside. If Charlie even does wake up, he’ll assume some wild animals are fighting,” I said, hoping that I actually felt the confidence that was in my voice. Bella nodded in approval. She started to tap her feet in unrest. It was the only sound that could be heard, that is except for Charlie’s occasional snore.

I heard a light noise outside of Bella’s window. I jumped up and ran towards it, hoping that it wasn’t Victoria or her friend. To my relief, Jasper, Emmett and Carlisle stood outside. I opened Bella’s window and let them come in. I wasn’t, in so situation, going to leave Bella alone.

As Emmett struggled to get through the small window, I heard Victoria’s thoughts again.

He called his family down…That’s an unexpected problem…Oh well, Georgie here will take care of them…

Before I had time to respond, two vampires stood in Bella’s doorway. Things seemed to move in slow motion as Emmett, Jasper, Carlisle and I jumped towards the intruders. I realized with a start, the reason why. We were going in slow motion.

The one named George had a wicked smile plastered on his face. From his mind, I found out that he could manipulate time. And while I was moving at a human’s pace, Victoria had Bella by the throat. Jasper, who was nearest to Victoria, tried to attack her, but due to her not being under the effect of George’s power, dodged his attack and slammed him into the opposite wall. He shouldn’t of been hurt, but he grabbed his head in pain. As I stood staring at Jasper in confusion, Victoria put Bella down. I was going to go help Bella get away when I felt a blow to my head. I didn’t fall unconscious, because vampires can’t, but it hurt very, very badly. Like what a human would feel against a vampire. Jasper finally got up and to my confusion, there was a bruise on his arm. To my horror I discovered that George’s power could effect more then just time. He could move a person’s body back in time. For example, he made Jasper, Emmet, Carlisle and I all human again.

Victoria’s laughed echoed through out the house. We all heard the creak of Charlie’s door as it opened. Bella screamed for her father to leave her alone, but it was too late. Charlie stood in the doorway with a look of horror on his face. Well, what father wouldn’t be horrified to find five men, one including her boy friend who he hates, and a strange woman in his daughter’s room at night? He didn’t stand there gaping for long though, because Victoria elbowed him in the gut. He winced and the got up and ran into his room. Victoria chuckled and punched Emmett’s nose. He all heard a crack. Emmett yelped with pain. But before anything else could happen, George took Bella by the throat. He started to squeeze and Bella gasped with pain. Then something that shocked us all happened. A bang came from out of Bella’s doorway. Smoke leaked out of Charlie’s handgun as the bullet went right into George’s leg. Charlie watched in horror and confusion as George just stood there. Then the pain in my head disappeared and by just glancing at Emmett’s nose, that was healed, too. We didn’t take George’s distraction for granted and didn’t hesitate in grabbing Bella from George and ripping Victoria to shreds. Seeing that there was no way to win, George disappeared out the window.

Charlie was wide eyed at the doorway. Bella looked sheepishly at him and then wrapped her arm around my shoulder. And then she uttered the words which described any father’s worst nightmare.

“Uh…Dad, my boy friend is a vampire.”
