As Carlisle and Edward left the room, I felt more and more anxious about talking to Charlie alone. I was sure that the Cullens weren’t off the hook yet, and I was afraid of what would happen if Charlie didn’t accept the Cullens as vampires. I shuddered involuntarily.

“Bella, I expect a good explanation for this!” Charlie growled. I shuddered again and took a deep breath.

“Dad, if you were in my situation, you would understand perfectly,” I said slowly, hoping for a good reaction. Charlie just narrowed his eyes at me.

“Bella, I walked into your room at night and saw five men in your bedroom who claim to be vampires. And they ripped a woman to shreds. I have the right to scream and yell and send the whole town after the Cullens with pitch forks and torches,” Charlie said slowly and angrily.

“You would do that to Alice?” I asked in amazement. Charlie opened his mouth and closed it numerous times. “And what about Carlisle? He saves lives! Mine many times! How can you condemn him?” Charlie looked towards the ground and refused to meet my gaze. “Vampires, or the Cullens anyway, aren’t bad people! They just drink animal blood instead of water!” I said cheerfully, hoping Charlie wouldn’t go berserk.

“Why were they in your room?” Charlie asked confused. He rubbed his head, trying to absorb it all in.

“Victoria wanted to kill me and she had a friend. Edward called over Emmett, Jasper, and Carlisle to help fight her. That’s all,” I said, holding up my hands in defense. Charlie nodded.

“Why did Victoria want to kill you?” Charlie asked bewildered. I looked at the ground guiltily.

“You know my trip to Phoenix last spring break?” I started off nervously. Charlie nodded. “I didn’t leave because I didn’t like Forks. I left because Victoria’s ma-husband wanted to kill me…for the fun of it,” I said. Charlie’s eyes boggled. I stopped myself from saying ‘mate’ because I wanted Charlie to think of vampires as humans, not animals.

“A vampire wanted to kill you for the fun of it?” he yelled out in outrage.

“Not all vampires are like that! The Cullens aren’t!” I said desperately. Charlie narrowed his eyes again.

“Go on…” he encouraged, wanting to hear the whole story. Probably so that he could send angry villagers after the Cullens.

“Well…” I started, not knowing where to begin.

“They saved you?” he asked, his voice filled with admiration. He looked down at the ground, comprehending everything I said. He then looked back up at my face. “I always knew you were something special,” he said proudly. He then leaned back in his seat.

Charlie’s POV

Those…vampires saved my little girl. They saved her. And their cool abilities, they’re like superheroes. Mind reading, emotion controlling, visions of the future…SO COOL! And my daughter is dating on of them! What if I convinced one of them to join the police force? There would be no crime at all in Forks! Maybe I could get Edward…he would be handy when catching the criminals. Or Alice with her visions… And they only drink from animals! That should creep me out, but we eat the animal flesh, why shouldn’t they drink their blood? It’s the same thing practically.

They saved her! Bella told me all about their heroic effort to save her. They left their home just to save my little girl!

But then she told me about when Edward left. I had no idea he left to save her! Wow, that is love. And then he tried to commit suicide! He’s Romeo! My daughter is dating Romeo! I still hate him for leaving! But now I can put up with him!

Wow! They’re vampires and I’m entirely okay with it! I knew they were something special, but not super-human special! That is so cool! And my daughter is attractive enough to make one of them fall in love with her!

“I always knew you were something special,” I told her. Well, what can I say? It runs in the family.

Edward’s POV

It was at least an hour before Carlisle released me from my prison. As the door creaked open I stood right behind the doorway with my arms crossed over my chest and my eyes narrowed. Carlisle shrank back at my expression but he kept firm. He quickly regained his posture and looked at me strait in the eye.

“It wouldn’t do any good ease dropping on them,” he said. I rolled my eyes and pushed past him.

“I wouldn’t have ease dropped anyway,” I grumbled.

“I expect the MRI machine to be fixed!” Carlisle yelled from the doorway, which was a hallways length behind me by then. I mumbled something I knew Carlisle couldn’t hear before walking up to Charlie’s room. I hoped Bella talked some sense into him. What was I saying? Sense would be the complete opposite from what she was trying to talk him into! Only someone oblivious to danger would feel safe around a vampire!

As I walked in the doorway, I saw Charlie staring at me with wide, admiring eyes. I looked at Bella in amazement. She looked proud of herself. She had her arms crossed over her chest and she was standing strait. I looked at Charlie again. Was he ignorant to danger or something? Well, Like father like daughter.

“I hope everything was straitened out,” I said to Charlie, who nodded his head feverishly. I was awestruck. I was certain that Charlie would go ballistic when he found out that we were vampires. But he didn’t. I wondered if the Swan family had some disorder where they don’t sense danger correctly.

“Edward,” Charlie said nervously. I turned my attention to him. “What future plans do you have with my daughter?” Bella and I both stiffened. Charlie noticed the difference. I glanced at Bella, hoping that she would answer the question. I knew I was still on thin ice with Charlie, and I didn’t want to explain to him that I was planning on turning his only child into a vampire. She didn’t talk.

“I love your daughter very much, Mr. Swan,” I said calmly. “I want to marry her,” I said, avoiding the other future plan that Charlie defiantly didn’t want to hear.

Charlie looked deep in thought. He rubbed his chin. He looked from Edward to me quickly.

“I don’t know how to respond to that,” he said slowly. I nodded and grabbed Bella’s hand.

“Why don’t we give you some time to think about it?” I said quickly and started to pull Bella out of the room. We made it down the hall before Bella yanked her hand out of mine.

“Why didn’t you tell him?” she asked in rage. I sighed and rubbed my temples.

“How do think he’s going to react?” I asked her as calmly as I could.

“Once we explain to him-”

“Bella! The man just found out that his daughter is dating a vampire!” I whispered loudly. An elderly woman down the hall was looking at us strangely. “One man can only take so much in such a short amount of time!”

“I was okay with it,” Bella countered.

“Yes, but did I just thrust all this information on you in an hour?” I asked her while running my hand through my hair. Bella sighed and leaned on me.

“I guess your right,” she said quietly. I closed my eyes and sighed. “Should we introduce your family to Charlie?” she asked eagerly. I rolled my eyes. “They are going to be his family in the near future.” I nodded, but then stopped in mid-nod. Bella never accepted my proposal. I just said I wanted to marry her, she never said ‘yes’. I looked down at her slowly.

“Are you…?” I said, the words caught in my throat. Bella smiled.

“I mean, you still want to get married, don’t you?” she asked teasingly. The smile on my face could have lit a room. “Yes,” she whispered. I couldn’t believe my ears.

“What caused the change of heart?” I asked her. “The last time I brought up the subject, you flipped out,” I said, my mind in a daze.

“While I was telling Charlie all the adventures we went through, I started to remember all that you did for me. All that you sacrificed,” she said. “I realized that you really loved me.” I raised an eye brow. “Well, I already knew that you loved me. But it just clicked together while I was in the room with Charlie.” I didn’t respond. Instead I swooped her up and kissed her deeply. But I of course had to pull back when she stopped breathing. We both stood there, catching our breaths, for a few minutes.

“I love you, Bella,” I whispered in her ear. She smiled.

“I love you, too,” she said before walking away from me. I stared at her in shock.

“Where are you going?” I asked her. She looked at me funny.

“Charlie’s calling us…” she said. Only after she said that I heard the calls coming from Charlie’s room. I blinked a few times before walked over to her side. “Do I really dazzle you so much that you can only think of me?” she asked teasingly. I rolled my eyes but decided not to answer that question.

Bella opened the door and we both walked into Charlie’s hospital room not knowing what to expect.
