“I guess I can’t do anything to stop you,” he said a little bit frustrated. “But I can at least have a say in when you are going to be turned into a vampire.” I couldn’t believe my ears. Was Charlie accepting me as a future vampire? “Twenty five,” Charlie suddenly said. It took me a moment to realize that he was talking about my age.

“Twenty five?” I asked repulsed. “I’m not going to marry a seventeen year old when I’m twenty five!” I exclaimed. I would sure get odd looks in public…

“Twenty one,” Edward joined in.

“Hey!” I yelled. Shouldn’t my future be up to me?

“Twenty two,” Charlie negotiated. Edward looked like he was considering that age.

“Nineteen,” I said quickly. Edward and Charlie looked at me like I was crazy.

“Twenty,” Edward finally said.

“Deal,” Charlie responded before I could say anything. I stared at them in horror. “What’s wrong Bella?” Charlie asked me. I just shook my head. “It’s only three years older then Edward,” he pointed out. Well, he did have a point there.

“Fine,” I grumbled. Maybe I could convince Edward and Charlie other wise when I am alone with each of them. Yes…that would work. There was no possibility of getting my way when they could both team up on me.

Edward looked relieved and pulled me closer to him.

“You won’t regret this,” he said excited. I glared up at him.

“I wouldn’t say that,” I grumbled. Edward just kissed me. Charlie coughed very loudly then and narrowed his eyes.

“I don’t want any funny business going on around me,” he warned. Edward instantly released me, but grabbed my hand. I blushed horribly.

“Carlisle’s coming in soon,” Edward said. “He can talk to you about your release from the hospital.” He then pulled me out of the room and down the hall. I yanked my hand from out of his. “What’s wrong?” he asked worried.

“Twenty?” I asked outraged. “I’m going to have to wait two years?” Edward looked at me concerned.

“You agreed to it,” he countered. I narrowed my eyes.

“You two teamed up on me!” I yelled. A few nurses looked our way funny so I lowered my voice. “What if something happens to me before then?” I asked, my eyes watering up. “Don’t you care about me?” Edward sighed and then pulled me in closer.

“Where did you get the idea that I didn’t care about you?” he asked. “You are the most important person in my existence.” He ran his hand through my hair. “I don’t want to marry you right away because you would want to get changed right after the wedding,” he explained. “I don’t think I will be able to stop drinking if I bit you now,” he said softly. I jerked my head up at him. Was I being so selfish that I forgot to think about Edward and his needs?

“I’m so sorry!” I said before embracing him. “I will give you all the time you need to prepare.” The minute I was done saying that I knew I was setting myself up. “But I won’t wait beyond twenty,” I added in quickly. Edward grinned and then kissed my forehead.

“So eager for-”

“Eternal damnation, I know,” I said, interrupting him. I traced the lines on his palm. We stood there for a few minutes before Carlisle called us back into the room. We walked back hand in hand. When we got in, Carlisle was standing by a counter and Charlie was eyeing some medication nervously.

“Do I have to take these?” he asked. He shook the bottle the medication was in. The pills rattled against the plastic. He narrowed his eyes at the medication like it greatly insulted him.

“It will help with your head aches,” Carlisle explained. Charlie was getting head aches? I looked at Charlie worried. Charlie met my gaze and then put the pills on a bed side table.

“It’s fine, Bells,” he said quickly. “They’re just head aches.” Just?

“Dad,” I said disapprovingly. Charlie rolled his eyes, opened the bottle, and picked up a small pill.

“They’re tiny,” he said. “If it was serious they would be big.”

“I don’t think that’s how it works,” I said, holding in my laughter. Charlie tried to keep a strait face, but he failed just as much as I did.

“Really,” he said. “It’s fine.” I nodded my head, but I wasn’t about to let him off the hook. I was going to be watching him carefully, making sure he’s okay.

“I was just telling your father that he will be ready to go back home in a few days,” Carlisle said. “There was some internal bruising, but it’s nothing very serious. He will just have to take it easy for a few weeks.” Charlie didn’t seem to like that idea at all.

“But my work…”

“Will have to wait,” Carlisle said, interrupting Charlie. Charlie grumbled something inaudible to me, but perfectly audible to Carlisle and Edward. Carlisle raised his eyebrow and Charlie looked down at the floor, blushing.

“Why don’t you go home, Bella,” Charlie said. “I’m fine here, you should make some food for yourself,” he said before I could protest.

“You’re exhausted,” Edward whispered in my ear. I nodded and Edward led me out of the hospital room. He drove me home in silence. He picked me up and carried me upstairs and into my bed room. He laid me on my bed and pulled the blankets over me. He then started to walk towards my door.

“Where are you going?” I asked before he would make it out the door. He stopped but didn’t turn to face me.

“I have to talk to my family,” he said. “Charlie knowing about us changes everything.” I nodded and laid back on my pillow. I didn’t want Edward to leave, but I let him go. The Cullens had to talk and be informed of the new plans for my future.

Twenty years old…can I wait that long?
