When we reached the door to his room he put me down and told me to close my eyes. I looked at him suspiciously before I did as I was told. He placed his hands in mine, and carefully guided me into the room.
He dropped my hands, leaving me standing alone. I couldn’t hear his footsteps or his breathing. I was suddenly nervous, standing there, alone.
I heard him chuckle softly from across the room.
“Edward?” I asked softly.
“Open your eyes, Love,” he replied.
I did as instructed and turned around in shock. His room was completely changed. The stark wood floor and been replaced by thick plush golden carpeting. The small leather sofa was missing, and in it’s place was a massive wrought iron canopy bed. The bedding was black and gold, matching the color of the carpet. I looked around in awe for quite a while, before I realized that my mouth was hanging open like a fish. I snapped it shut quickly causing Edward to snicker.
What did the bed mean?
Why did he need a bed?
He didn’t sleep... so why....
Okay, I could keep debating internally with myself OR I could talk to him. Here goes nothing!
“Wow, a bed!!” I managed to stutter. Smooth, Bella! “What happened to the couch?”
“Well, my Love,” he said, while kissing my forehead. “The couch was probably just about as comfortable as your little bed, but I wanted you to sleep like a queen while you are here.”
“As long as I am with you, I always will,” I said while reaching my arms around his neck and lifting my face towards his. He complied with my silent request and lowered his head for a kiss.
I could kiss him forever!
It started off sweet and gentle as always, but soon I had my hands wrapped into his hair and he had me in his arms lifted off the ground so he didn’t have to bend. I wrapped my legs around his waist and groaned into his mouth. I could feel the evidence of his arousal against my core.
God I wanted him!
He carried me towards the bed, and finally pulled his lips away, leaving us both breathless. I kept my legs wrapped around him, and rested my head on his shoulder as I struggled to get my breathing to return to normal. He sat on the bed, still not moving away from the close contact we had, and ran his ice cold fingers up and down my spine.
I wanted to stay like this forever.
I think I could. I leaned into him more, inhaling his scent. I had to stifle a yawn, but I should have known he’d hear it.
He chuckled lightly, and kissed my forehead.
“You should get ready for bed, Love,” he said.
“Okay,” I agreed, finally loosening the grip of my legs around his waist.
Before I could blink I was on my back on the bed as Edward ran out of the room and down the stairs to grab my overnight bag.
I giggled and started to make my way off the big bed. Before my feet hit the floor, he was back, with my bag in hand, smiling his sexy smile at me.
I stood up and reached up to him, pulling his lips down for a soft kiss, before I grabbed my bag and headed out of his room and down the hall to the bathroom.
I felt his eyes watching me the whole way.
As I stepped into the room, I found a note from Alice telling me to take a shower before I got into my pajamas.
I did as instructed.
Once out of the shower, I grabbed my toiletries bag from the top of my bag and started my after shower, night time routine. I brushed my teeth and hair, put my strawberry body lotion on, and put some lip gloss on my lips. Then I leaned over into my bag to get my pajamas. As I looked through the bag, I realized that none of the clothes that I had packed for myself were in the bag.
“Oh, come on!” I moaned, looking at all the new clothes that now filled my bag.
I had packed the new pajamas that Alice had bought for me in Seattle, but apparently the silk boxer and cami set was not what Alice had in mind for this evening. The only thing close to pajamas that I could find was a long, royal blue, silk nightie with lace around the top seams. There was a note on them.
Don’t even think of arguing! Wear it! You will look awesome. Edward will love it, eventually and it is way more comfortable than it looks.
Love you,Little Sister.
I took a deep breath and slipped the silky material over my head, cursing Alice in my brain. Who in their right mind would make me wear this to bed? She knows I usually like my sweats. She was pushing her luck with the cami and boxer set but this was beyond ridiculous.
I was sure I would look stupid.
I turned and looked at my reflection in the mirror and gasped at what I saw.
Wow. I looked hot, even if I did say so myself. The question was, what would Edward think?
He knocked at the bathroom door, causing me to jump.
“You alright, Love?” he asked softly through the door.
“Perfect,” I answered. “I’ll be out in just a minute.”
“Okay. I’ll be in my room,” he answered.
I took a couple of deep breaths and then brushed my hair one more time, before turning on my heel and heading out of the bathroom.
True to his word, Edward wasn’t waiting in the hall. In fact when I got to the door to his room, he had his back to me and was staring out the window.
“Hi,” I said quietly.
“Done with your human ti....” he started to say, as he turned around. His sentence stopped midway, as he caught sight of me.
“Do you like it?” I asked, doing a little pirouette. “It wasn’t what I had planned on wearing, but Alice got ahold of my overnight bag.”
“Um WOW!!” was all he could stutter.
Thank you, Alice!
“She kidnapped all of my clothes and replaced them with her idea of what I should wear,” I started to babble nervously, as his eyes wandered up and down my body. “At least she was right about one thing. They are very comfortable.”
He said nothing, but his eyes never left me. I took advantage of his silence and climbed up onto his bed.
“So I look pretty in this?” I asked shyly, as I felt my cheeks going pink.
“You always look pretty. In this you look, WOW!!!” he said still standing by the window.
“Are you going to come and sit with me?” I asked him
Where is all my bravery coming from?
“Ummm, not just yet. I don’t think I can.” he answered, his eyes still glued to me.
“Oh,” I answered, trying to decide what to do next.
Well I guess if he won’t come to me, I’ll have to go to him.
I climbed off the bed and walked slowly towards him.
He took a step back, and pressed himself against the glass.
“Is the big scary vampire afraid of little ol’ me?” I asked in a tiny voice.
Way to go Bella! Jasper must have infused this nightie with confidence or something!
“Bella, you are obviously unaware of how little self control I have right now,” he said, his voice quivering.
He was scared! Go me!
“Edward, I want this. I want you to hold me, to touch me. I want all of you, all of us,” I told him, holding my hand out to him.
“Bella, I can’t,” he said.
“You don’t want me?” I asked dropping my hand. My voice quivered. I felt like I had been stung. I turned away as the tears came rushing to my eyes. I started to move away, but I barely took two steps when I felt his hand on my arm, stopping me.
I stopped, but didn’t turn towards him. Neither of us said anything and I felt his fingers run along the pink puckered scar from my birthday accident. The tears that had formed in my eyes started slowly dripping down my cheek.
“Bella,” he said softly. “I do want you, all of you. Every single inch of you. Body, mind, soul, everything. More than you could possibly know right now.” He paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. “It’s too dangerous, Love. I could hurt you. I could kill you. It would be so easy. Bella, I can’t risk it.”
He moved his hands to my shoulders and spun me around to face him. I quickly looked to the floor, so he wouldn’t see my tears, but he put one finger under my chin and lifted it up so he could look in his eyes.
He looked so heartbroken when he saw my tears. He gently took both his thumbs and rubbed them across my cheeks, drying my tears.
“Bella, I love you more than anything. I can’t risk it. I can’t risk you,” he pled with me.
“Please, Edward,“ I begged. “It’s all I want, all I need.” The tears were falling again and he kept trying to catch them all with his fingers, before giving up and just pulling me tight to his chest.
I threw my arms around him and sobbed into his shirt.
He held me to him, not even breathing, and rubbed soothing circles onto my back. He rocked me back and forth until my sobbing stopped and I was back in control.
“Bella, my love, I want you so much. I need you more than I thought possible. But, if we’re going to do this, I want to do something first. I need to do this, Bella,” he said, letting me go and looking into my eyes.
I watched as he walked, human speed, across his room. He stopped at his bedside table and knelt down, opening the door. I saw him reach in to grab something, but before I could figure out what he was doing, he was back at my side.
Stupid vampire speed.
He looked down at me and smiled softly, running his fingers along my cheek, which was now, miraculously, tear free.
“Bella,” he started. “I never thought I would find love. I truly thought I was destined to be alone forever, and I was okay with that, in part. But I always hoped that I would have someone to share my heart with. I wanted what my family had a soul mate. When I met you, I couldn’t figure it out. Your blood tormented me like nothing I’d ever felt before, but your heart... It called to me, and I knew that was so much more important that the lure of your blood. Then I got to know you, and I saw you for what you truly were; smart, funny, beautiful, kind, genuine and good.”
I blushed at his kind words, but kept my eyes focused on his, as he kept his focused on me.
“And, Bella, I fell in love with you. With everything you are. I love your ability to trip on thin air and the way you bite your lip when you’re nervous,” he said.
I pulled my lip, that I was not aware of before this second, from between my teeth and ran my tongue along it.
“I love the fact that you stomp your foot when you’re mad, and snarl like an angry tiger. I love that you can’t hold a grudge, and that you forgive people when they surely don’t deserve it. I love you. You are my everything, Isabella Marie Swan,” he vowed, as he reached out and took my hand in his, his eyes till never leaving mine.
“I am changed. I am a different man than I was a year ago or eighty years ago. I am finally finding my soul, something I was sure didn’t exist. Bella, I need you more than I need anything else. I need to be with you everyday of forever,” he said, slowly moving so he was directly in front of me and dropping down on one knee, still never breaking his gaze away from me.
Oh. My. God!
“Isabella Marie Swan, I want you to be my wife for all eternity. Will you do me the honor of becoming my bride? Will you marry me?” he asked, pulling a ring out of his pocket.
I didn’t look at the ring for a second. I looked straight into his eyes, and I could see the happy ending he had planned for us. I wanted it.
I opened my mouth to say yes, but no sound came. The tears, that had so recently vacated their spot in my eyes and on my cheeks, returned with a vengeance.
Out of everything I had expected for this evening, this had never crossed my mind.
“Bella?” he asked, sounding slightly concerned. “Breathe Bella!”
I took a deep breath and finally broke away from his gaze, looking at the ring he held in his hand, trembling in his ever so sure vampire fingers.
Still unable to speak, I returned my gaze to his eyes and smiled softly. Neither of us moved for what seemed like an infinity, we just looked into each others eyes. I took a deep breath again, finally ready to speak...
