Her eyes fluttered open to stare into mine. My heart was soaring and my insides were floating around my body. I had not been this happy since the day I had left Forks, Washington.

I couldn't believe it. Bella had survived although the odds were stacked against us. I looked quickly to the clouded sky and whispered a silent thank you. Her chocolate brown eyes were still boring into my face with an emotion I could not recognize. Was it confusion? Dread? Fear? Or worst of all - hate? It had been so long since I had seen her; I had forgotten the smallest things. My visions and memories of her obviously did not do her any justice.

I gazed at her body, filling my mind greedily with the memories. Her face was paler than usual and her usually thin body was gaunt and tiny. It pained me to see her like this. Her hair was clumped and stuck to her forehead; and she had dark purple circles under her eyes. I wondered why she wasn't sleeping properly. Was it nightmares? Or was it because I wasn't there to comfort her? I scolded myself for thinking that. I was unneccasarily getting my hopes up. Although she did look terrible, she still looked devastatingly beautiful. Nothing in the world mattered anymore. Just so long as I was by her side, I was happy.

I could feel my fingers shaking slightly as I reached out to touch her. I relished in the feeling of my ice-cold finger burning across her soft cheek. She flinched as I touched her, sending pain directly to my heart.

I didn't know if it was the temperature that made her flinch or the thing I was most worried about. Just because I had saved her and returned to her, didn't mean she actually wanted me back. She probably did hate me right now, and I truly didn't blame her.

Her eyes flicked over to where the child, Jacob was sitting. He was staring at her, almost solemnly. I couldn't comprehend why so I decided to penetrate his mind.

Now Bella has Edward again, she'll be happy; but without me. I don't want her to choose him over me, but it's kinda obvious she will.

Bella smiled at him, a loving smile that made my heart wrench. She loved this boy, maybe more than me now. His mouth quickly upturned into a full grin and he made his way to her side. She carefully lifted her hand up to reach into his. He grasped it and smoothly kissed the pale white skin. I moved back a few feet to give them some space, but somehow could not find it in myself to walk away from her. I couldn't.

"Oh, Bella. What were you thinking, Bella?"

She opened her mouth as if to speak but coughed and brought her free hand to her throat.

"What is it, Bella? What hurts?" he spluttered.

She took a deep breath and began to speak. It was rougher than usual but I put that down to nearly drowning.

"Oh Jake. I don't know what I was thinking, I'm so sorry," she wheezed.

She shivered as a cold wind brushed against her skin. Jacob immediately lay beside her and let her huddle into him. She breathed into him and sighed.

"You have no idea how worried I was. Don't you ever do that to me again, understand?"

"Yes," she nodded.

"I thought you were dead, Bella. It was the worst feeling in the world," he whispered as a lone tear fell down his cheek. She lovingly caressed his cheek, catching the tear with her finger.

I turned away, before my heart shattered once again. I began to walk in the opposite direction, desperate to get away from this loving scene. I couldn't take seeing Bella had actually moved on, although I was happy for her. I was happy she had finally found someone worth living for. And to Jacob I was eternally grateful.

I strode and turned once more to look at her face before setting off towards the cliffs.

"No! Wait, Edward!" I heard a scratchy voice shout.
