When it Rains

Bella returns to Forks after being away for 3 years. Lots of questions form. Secrets are reviled, & hearts are broken. Who's the father of Bella's baby? And how does Charlie know about werewolves? What will it be like for Charlie when Bella has to explain to him about vampires...and Edward....a vampire? Hmm....and who's Lily?

"I was caught in-between a twilight stage of sleep and semi-consciousness, as I longed for the sun to fall over the horizon.”
-Bella, chapter 3

So this story just popped up in my head one night. I was listening to "When it Rains" by Paramore, that's where the title came from. And it rains...a lot in Forks.

Please, please PLEASE review. I have worked really hard on this story.

It could have been a coincidence that a roar of thunder broke through the sky, the minute the door opened. But I doubt it was. I think it was fate warning the occupants of the house. The lighten blot that followed was another warning of my arrival, and the trouble I was about to unleash in a the small town of Forks.

“Can I help you?” Sue asked in a confused voice, she strained through the darkness to see my face. I though it would help if I removed my hood, but it didn’t. I was already soaking wet from the rain, and freezing. Sue wasn’t getting anywhere, fast enough.

“It’s me.” I spoke with regret “Bella.” I confirmed.

“Oh, Bella, honey. Come in, come in. You’re soaked.” She rushed. Sue shut the door tightly behind me before calling Charlie’s name. “Let me take your coat, sweetie.”

“Thanks.” I said awkwardly as I stood in the middle of the hallway.

“Charles!” Sue hollered once more and then shot me a awkward smile. I started down and started to worry about Jules in the car.

“Wha-” Charlie started as he appeared at the bottom of the stairs. “Bella?” Charlie asked, repeatedly blinking his eyes. “Is that you?”

“Yeah, Dad. It’s me.” I shrugged as if my arrival was no big deal, but I knew otherwise. Charlie all but run to me, and smothered me in a big awkward hug.

“Oh, Bells. Three years is way to long! And a phone call a month. Where are your priorities?”

“I know, Dad.” I smiled and he kissed me on the forehead.

“I’ve really missed you.” He said hugging me tighter. “What kept you away so long?”

“Oh, just busy, ya’know?” I grinned apologetically “Well, Dad, I, uh brought someone with me.” I said.

“A boy? Bells, really?” He asked disapprovingly.

“No, no. Uhm, they’re waiting in the car.” I explained.

“Oh, well don’t make them wait. Bring ‘em in.” Charlie insisted.

I pulled up my hood and ventured out, once more into the rain. Charlie and Sue were both watching from the porch. I unbuckled Jules from her car seat and she slowly awoke. “Hey baby.” I grinned at her. I pulled up her hood and held her close to my body as I ran through the rain.

Charlie and Sue both shared the same horrified but confused look on there faces. Charlie will hate me when I tell him who this little girl is.

“Dad, this is Juliet.” I grinned “my daughter.” His look only grow more terrified. Jules buried her head into my shoulder.

“Bella,” Charlies face smoothed “is this really your daughter?”

I swallowed “Yes. She’s three.”

“Why don’t we all sit down?” Sue gestured to the living room. We followed her and I took a seat in the arm chair and sat Jules down on my lap. I pulled down her hood and stroked her long dark hair.

“Bella,” Charlie said sullenly “How-” He was speechless “How could you not tell me I had a granddaughter?”

“I am so sorry, Dad.” I didn’t know what else to say. I felt horrible.

“Who is her father? Are you married?” Charlie asked in a rush.

God, how was I going to explain this? “No, I’m not married. And her father, well he‘s not in our lives anymore.” Well, he will be soon. At least for a little while. Charlie frowned.

“I can’t believe you kept this from me.” He shook his head in disbelieve.

“I know, Char- Dad. It was wrong, I was wrong But I am here now.”
“I guess that’s better than never.” He said pursing his lips.

“Jules this is your Grandpa.” I said to her. “And Grandma. Is that okay?” I looked directly at Sue. She grinned and nodded.

“What’s her full name?” Sue asked

“Juliet Renee Swan. But we call her Jules” I answered

“She’s so beautiful.” Charlie said. “Can, I uh hold her?” He asked nervously.

“Sure.” I said. I took Jules over to Charlie and sat her on his lap. He held onto her awkwardly. Sue started to smooth her dark curls.

“She’s very tan.” Charlie commented. “She looks just like you, Bells. But her eyes are a lot darker." I grinned.

“Well, what brings you here, Bella? You could have called…” He trailed off.

“I missed you.” I admitted “And I wanted you to meet Jules.”

“Well, we’re very surprised, but glad to see you.” Charlie said “I assume you’ll be staying here. This is your home.”

“Well, only if it’s okay.” I bit my lip.

“Of course it is.” Sue said

“We wouldn’t have it any other way.” Charlie added.

“So, does Seth still live here?” I asked looking around, the house was mostly the same as I remembered. Six months before I left Charlie and Sue married, and bought a bigger house in Forks. It was nice, it had 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.

“No, he has a small apartment in La Push.” Sue said.

“Oh, I’ll have to visit him soon.” For the six months before I left Seth and I lived together and had grown very close, he was a fun kid. He was 15 then, now he’s 18. Wow, he’s not a kid anymore.

“He’d like that.” Sue grinned

“And so would Jacob.” Charlie added. “Have you too kept in touch?”

“No,” I admitted “Not like we should have.”

“Yeah, what happened? You and Jake were so close.”

“Yeah, I know. Uh, can we talk about this more later? I want to put Jules to bed.”

“Yeah, okay. Your room is just the way you left it.” Charlie said as I took Jules from his arms.

“Really?” I grinned with excitement.

“Yeah, I always hoped you’d come back Bells.” Charlie said kissing me once more on the forehead. I grinned once more and headed up the stairs.

Even though the dark I could tell that everything was the same. The hall was still the bright yellow. I found my room at the end of the hall, the door was shut.

It was liked I’d never even left. The bed was made with my light purple comforter, and my books and Cd's remained on the shelf in the same manor as before. I grinned at all the memories. How did I ever leave this place?

I pulled back the comforter and placed Jules under it after removing her coat and shoes. I laid down beside her and began to hum my lullaby to her until she feel asleep.

I later joined Sue and Charlie in the kitchen.

“Thanks for letting me stay.” I said as I sat beside Charlie at the table.

“Bella,” Charlie groaned “this is your home. Just because you left for a while doesn’t change anything. But if you leave again…” Charlie teased.
“Your father brought in your luggage, Bella.” Sue said as she scrubbed a dish.

“Oh, thanks Dad.”

“No problem, Bells. You have a really nice car.”

“Thanks, Phil bought it for me.” I said

“So how’s everyone? How are you guys?” I asked trying to keep the subject light.

“We’re good. Bella, you should give Jake a call. I’m sure he is still awake.” I glanced at the clock which read 10pm then at the phone.

“Uh,” I bit my lip. “I’d rather see him in person.”

“Does he know about….Juliet?” Charlie asked hesitantly

“No one from here does.” I admitted “So how’s Seth?” I asked Sue.

“He’s good. He works part time and goes to college full time.”

“He’s a smart kid.” Charlie added

“Yeah, he always was.”

“Bella. Why isn’t Juliet’s father in her life? That’s not right.” I’d been dreading this. I didn’t want to tell them the truth yet, but I didn’t want to drown them in lies. I sucked at lying.

“Well, I was in New York City for a bit,” Lie. “And I started dating this guy and then we…And he left New York before I knew I was pregnant. He wasn’t a big part of my life. I didn’t even know how to get a hold of him.” Lies. I wasn’t even ever in New York. “Then I moved to Jacksonville.”

“That’s horrible. She shouldn’t have to grow up without a father. I still can not believe you kept this from me. How could you Bella?

“I don’t know.” I dropped my head.

“Bella, would you like something to eat? I can make you a sandwich.” Sue offered.

“No, thanks. I had fast food a few hours ago.”

“You look so good, Bella.” Sue noted “You’re so pretty.”

“Aw, thank you Sue.” I grinned

“Well, I guess I am ready for Bed.” Sue said has she drained the sink. “Good Night, Bella.”

“Goodnight Sue.”

“I’ll be right there, Sue.” Charlie said.

“I’m truly happy you’re here.” Charlie said.

“Me too. I’ve missed Forks.”

“Forks has missed you. Uh, Bella, if you don’t mind me asking…have you ever heard from any of the...Cullens?”

“No,” I looked down so Charlie wouldn’t see the pain in my eyes. “Nothing.”

“I’m sorry. Goodnight Bella.” Charlie said as he kissed my head. “I love you.”

“Love you too.”

It was so nice to see Charlie so happy. Sue really was good for him. After Harry’s death, Charlie spend so much time over at the Clearwaters’ house. Sue was so sweet and nice, they were perfect together. I sighed as I walked into the living room. There were a bunch of pictures on the mantle that I don’t remember so I moved to take a closer look.

There was a picture of Sue and Charlie on their wedding day. There was also one of Leah, Seth and I, the new step siblings. Leah had moved into her own place prior to the wedding, so I never grew close to her. We never did click.

There was also a picture of Jacob and I. I sighed, Charlie loved the idea of Jake and I being so close. When we started dating, I swear he was waiting for us to be engaged.

God, Jake must really hate me. I was horrible. I probably broke his heart, I broke mine own in the process, but that was to save myself….right? I had to ask my heart.

I held the photo in my hand. I tear slip from my eyes, I sat the photo back down the catch anymore.

I was tired. I had been a very long drive. I drug myself to bed. Jules was sleeping soundly. I crawled in beside her and wrapped arm around her little delicate body.
