Dear Diary,

Hello, my name is Bella Swan! I’ve never written in a diary before, but my friend Angela said it might be a good way to vent without worrying someone will find out.

Find out what, you might ask?

I have this power, or ability if you will, to control air. It’s pretty cool. I can make it do whatever I want. I can change the direction of the wind, I can make gusts of wind, I can force away cold air and bring warm air closer to me (or vice versa), and I even made a mini tornado in my hand once.

As cool as my ability is, It’s one freaking pain in the butt. I’m always worried someone will find out. Then that person will tell other people and I’ll become a freak. Or even worse, the government will drag me off and perform experiments on me or something.

It’s scary, you know? The only people I can trust are my two best friends Angela and Jessica. I’ve known them ever since kindergarten and they are the only ones who know about my power.

I told Angela and Jessica about five years ago. I can remember that day as clear as crystal. How could I forget? It was the first day I realized I was no longer alone.

We were in sixth grade and Angela and I were walking out of lunch. We weren’t the most popular kids in the school. We were used to the names and the teasing that the more popular kids used on us. However, I could never have been prepared for what one of them did to me that day.

The lunch bell had just rang and we were headed to our next class. As I exited the lunch room I tripped over something and went flying into the water fountain. Water soaked my shirt and by bra was visible through it. I turned around to see Tyler, the biggest jerk in the whole school, had held out his leg so I would trip over it.

Some of the popular girls where giggling and pointing at me. One of them however was not laughing. It was Jessica, and she was staring at me with the most horrified look on her face. I never approved of the group she hung out with. I told her that when we hung out outside of school. She had just shrugged it off and told me they weren’t that bad.

Jessica ran over to me and helped me up and asked me if I was ok. Angela was right behind her. I nodded, my face red with embarrassment. Jessica told me that she had an extra shirt in her locker and that I could borrow it.

The group of girls was walking off now but Tyler still stood in the door smirking at me. I felt a wave of anger wash over me. I mean COME ON! How DARE he do that to me? I guess I kind of forgot where I was, because the second he turned around I thrust out my arms and sent a gust of wind flying at him. He went flying into the wall and banged his head.

Once he managed to stand up, he turned around to see me standing there. I was much too far away to have pushed him. He gave me a confused and horrified look before limping off in the direction of the nurse. I never got bullied by Tyler ever again. Jessica never hung out with the popular kids again either.

I realized that Jessica and Angela were still there. Nervously I turned and saw them, staring at me. Their mouths were hanging open.

“What the heck was that!?” Jessica choked out after a long moment.

“Umm, what was what?” I tried to lie innocently. I’m a really bad liar.

“You know exactly what we’re talking about!” Angela gaped.

I sighed. “OK come with me.”

I brought them into the girls bathroom and spent the whole next period telling them about my power.

“Why didn’t you tell us?” Angela asked. “We wouldn’t have told anyone.”

“I’ve never told anyone before…I don’t want to be a freak,” I confessed.

Jessica shook her head. “You're not a freak, Bella! You have a gift!”

I smiled half heartedly at her.

“I wish I could have a power like yours, Bella,” Angela told me. “Then you wouldn’t be so alone.”

I reached my hand out and touched hers. “I wish you could too.”

What happened next was bizarre. I felt a zap on my fingers, like when you walk across a carpet and the static electricity gives you a shock.

“Ow!” I pulled my hand away from hers.

“Ouch!” She snatched her hand back.

Jessica giggled and then after a moment we were all laughing. I changed my shirt and we went back to class. I didn’t think of the zap until a week later when a panicked Angela called my house.

“Hello?” I asked, picking up the phone.

“Bella, its me, Angela.” She sounded like she was about to cry.

“Are you ok?” I asked with concern.

“I-I don’t know Bella. Can you come over?”

“Of course, I’ll be right over.” Angela lived down the street from me. I hurried over as fast as my feet could take me.

Angela opened the door immediately after I knocked. Her eyes were wide and she looked, well, scared.

“Angela what’s wrong?” I begged her. I needed to know what was bothering her.

“Follow me.” We walked up stairs to her room. She shut the door behind us.

“Angela?” I asked her nervously.

“Look!” She was holding out her hand. I couldn’t see anything odd about it. The she moved it into shadow. I felt my heart stop when her hand disappeared before my eyes.

“Your- hand…” I whispered.

“What’s wrong with it?” she wailed.

“Wait, Angela go stand in the shadow over there,” I commanded. She hesitated before stepping the

shadow. Just like that she was gone.

“Angela?” I called warily.

“What?” her voice called out.

“Angela, I, I think you became a shadow.”

“No way…” she muttered.

“Angela come back.” Suddenly there she was, stepping out of the shadow.

I shook my head in wonder. “It couldn’t be.” I said under my breath.

Apparently she heard me. “What couldn’t be?”

“I think maybe, I did this to you.”

She look for a confused for a moment then she gasped. “That weird shock!”

“Maybe, by wanting to give you a power I…did.” I barely whispered.

Angela nodded her head in agreement. “I think you're right.

“That’s crazy,” I murmured.

“Let’s call Jess,” Angela suggested.

Jess was at the house practically minutes after we called her.

“What’s going on?” she asked as we entered Angela’ s room.

She couldn’t believe her eyes when we showed her.

“This is insane!” Jessica gasped. “I think I’m dreaming.”

“I don’t know what to think.” I muttered.

“Bella, Bella!” Jessica gasped suddenly.

“What?” I asked.

“Try it on me! See if you can give me a power!”

I paused before reaching out my hand to touch hers. I know how stupid I was to do that now. I could have turned her into a frog or something! I could have ruined her life!

“I want Jessica to have a power too,” I said.

“Yeap!” Jessica gasped. “I think it worked," she said after a moment.

“Do you feel any different?” Angela asked.

Jessica shrugged. “I don’t know. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see if anything happens."

After few hours I went home. It had been a crazy day for me.

We know now that not only can Angela become shadows, but she can control them. She can push shadows away, or bring them closer to her. It comes in handy when in public. She wouldn’t want to randomly disappear before other people.

I didn’t know if I actually gave Jessica a power too. I was quite skeptical until one day, about a month after I tried to give her one, she came bouncing up to me when I was sitting in the park reading.

“Plants!” she announced.

“Huh?” I asked her.

“That’s my power, I can control plants!” She grinned.

I raised my eyebrow at her. “Show me.”

“Watch!” She said excitedly. She pointed at the grass and began waving her hand over it. The grass swayed back and forth. Her hand stopped over a flower bud. She turned her hand into a fist and the bud quickly bloomed.

I laughed. “That’s awesome Jess!”

“Yeah! And it proves that you can give other people powers!”

That happened about five years ago.

Now I’m in High School. It’s the beginning of my junior year. It hasn’t exactly gotten off to a good start. My mom died in a car crash right before school started. It was really hard on my Dad. He moped around for days. Poor Charlie. He’s doing better now though.

Gosh I hope I didn’t scare you away! I’ve never really vented my whole life to anyone before. Well, anything. I’m tired now. I’m going to go to bed.
