Edward didn't come back for a long time. We all stared after him, and Carlisle sent Emmet to go after him before long. When Emmett came back, he told us that Edward had left the airport and his scent led into the woods.
The flood of questions started like a dam being shattered. Most of them were from Carlisle, firing medical questions that left me clueless as to what he was saying. Esme inquired how I felt again and again, her golden eyes deeply concerned. Emmett made his jokes about what Edward might've done on the island, something that I tried very hard to ignore.
Rosalie gently asked me what it felt like, having a baby inside me. I couldn't answer without tears falling down my cheeks. Alice gave me a hug, brushing the moisture in my eyes away. Jasper smiled a little at me, trying to calm me.
It was getting a bit uncomfortable standing there while 6 people questioned me, so I asked if we could go home. Of course everyone said yes, and Carlisle started leading the way to his Mercedes and Rosalie's M3.
The trip home was delayed, however, because we passed a Cafe specializing in Mexican food. The smell of tomatoes and hot peppers made my stomach churn, and I sprinted to the nearest bathroom, clamping my hand over my mouth. Rosalie, Esme, and Alice all followed me in, keeping their cool hands on my face untill it was over. I walked limply over to the sink with my hands cupped. The cold water flowed into them, and I splashed my face and slurped some to get rid of the awful taste in my mouth. Rosalie kept her arm around me, Esme kissed me reassuringly on the cheek, and Alice gave my hand a sympathetic squeeze.
Carlisle, Emmett, and Jasper all wore anxious faces when I stumbled out, but they quickly changed their expressions before I could see them properly. Carlisle looked as if he wanted to comment - using all his medical vocabulary - but thought better of it. He kept a hand on my shoulder as he escorted me to the car.
The girls climbed into the M3 while the boys scrambled into the Mercedes. I rode up front with Rosalie, who kept her hand on my stomach. We both waited and waited, and finally a little nudge bumped our palms. Tears fell from my eyes again.
"Its... so beautiful," stuttered Rosalie. She looked at a loss for words.
"I know," I whispered, my voice cracking.
We rode the rest of the way home in silence.
We immedietly seated ourselves in the Cullens' living room. Esme drifted next to me, keeping her arms around my shoulders.
"How long did it take for you to notice you were pregnant?" asked Carlisle, whose voice was just a little more upbeat than the rest of us.
"I don't know. It just... happened," I tried to explain. "One day there was nothing, the next I'm throwing up and there's a bump on my stomach. A hard bump."
I slowly made my way over to the pale white sofa, lifting up my shurt ever so slightly. Carlisle carefully laid his fingers on my swollen torso, and his cool touch made me shiver.
"I'm sorry," he murmured, moving his fingers around the bulge. When he leaned back, we all waited for some kind of verdict, but he gave none.
We all sat in silence for a few minutes, until Alice suddenly sat up straight. We all glanced her way.
I breathed a sigh of relief, and relaxed my position a little. In only seconds the front door opened, and Edward walked in, looking more furious than I've ever seen him. And, from the looks on everybody else's face, the most furious anyone had ever seen him.
"A word, Carlisle?" he asked through clenched teeth.
"He rose and warily walked towards him.
"You too, Rosalie." She age me a subtle wink before vanishing out the door.
It was only then that I remembered. What was her plan?
