10 years later . . .

Rosalie, Emmett, Renesmee, and I were sitting in the living room. Alice and Jasper were hunting. And Esme and Carlisle were vacationing on Isle Esme. I was reading a book.

“Edward, why are you always so sad and miserable?” Renesmee asked me. Emmett answered.

“Because he misses his Bella.” He said her name with exaggeration. I had about enough. I threw my book to the floor and tackled Emmett.

“You’re one brave basterd Emmett.” I said to him

“Dad!” Renesmee said. Rosalie pulled me off Emmett. Rosalie turned to Renesmee.

“Why don’t you go to your room.” I tried to sneak away. Rosalie’s going to give me hell for attacking Emmett in front of Renesmee. I stepped on a creaky floorboard.

“Hold it! You know damn well you’re in trouble Edward.” She turned to me. What the hell did you think you were doing?!”She scolded.

“It’s not my fault that he pissed me off!” I yelled at her.

“So help me Edward I will tell her the truth!” I hate it when she pulls out that card.

“You wouldn’t dare.” I hissed.

“Yes I would.” She retorted. I walked away from her scooped up my book and rushed to my room. I stopped though when I saw who was in the hallway. It was Renesmee. How much did she hear? I gave her a measuring look. She seemed confused. Oh boy.

Renesmee’s POV

“Why don’t you go to your room.” Mom told me. I walked out into the hallway. I always wondered what they fought about. Edward gets in trouble with mom about once a week. I stood there in the hall to listen.

“Hold it! You know damn well you’re in trouble Edward. What the hell did you think you were doing?!” Mom scolded.

“It’s not my fault that he pissed me off!” Edward retorted. Edward always seemed to have a temper problem.

“So help me Edward I will tell her the truth!” The truth? The truth of what? Is there a secret I don’t know about?

“You wouldn’t dare.” Edward hissed.

“Yes I would.” It sounded like he was thinking of something clever to say. Then I saw Edward stop in front of me. He looked furious. He must have noticed my puzzled expression.

“Let her find I don’t give a damn anymore. My life can’t get any worse.” He muttered as he hurried to his room. Just then Mom caught me standing at the door.

“Renesmee Carlie Cullen how much did you hear.” She sounded mad. I suddenly became interested in my shoes.

“Everything.” I admitted. She sighed.

“We knew this was going to happen. Excuse me for a second.” Mom headed towards Edward’s room.

Edward’s POV

I was looking at my favorite picture of Bella. There was a knock on the door. Might as well get over with it.

‘Edward can I come in?’

What could Rosalie possible want?

“What do you want Rosalie?” I said a little annoyed. I never took my eyes off the picture.

“I need to talk to you.”

“Just come in and get it over with.” Rosalie came in.

“Edward she heard everything. I think it’s time to tell her. I need your permission though since she’s your daughter.”

“fine go ahead I don’t care.”

“Um. . . It would help if you were there. Oh, and bring the picture.” I sighed and followed her to where Renesmee was waiting.

Renesmee’s POV

Edward and Mom walked into the room. I feel terrible for eavesdropping on their fight. I noticed that Edward had something in his hand. Edward and Mom sat on the couch in front of me. They both looked at each other. Mom sighed.

“Renesmee we all have been keeping a secret from you.” She started

“What would that secret be Mom?” I asked. Mom gestured for the thing Edward was holding.

“Do you recognize this girl?” She asked. I looked at the picture. It was a woman with a heart shaped face, chocolate brown eyes, and dark brown hair. I felt like I knew her.

“Yes somewhat.” I answered. Edward seemed happy that I recognized her. He smiled for the first time in a long time.

“She’s your real mother.” She said. She’s my real mother. If so who’s my real father. Edward looked up at me. Sometimes it was so easy to forget about his gift.

“She died just after you were born.” Edward added. There was something he was keeping from me.

“I’m guessing that Dad is not my real father.” I said. Edward nodded. It stayed silent for a few moments.

“Who is my real father then?” I asked.

“Renesmee you are one of the brightest people I know. And yet you can’t figure out the simplest of puzzles.” I stuck my tongue out at Edward.

“Who is he?” I prodded.

“Here’s a hint I loved Bella and the name of your mother was Bella.” My jaw dropped. He was right it was obvious. He was my father? The person who seemed to despise me from my birth. He must be playing a joke on me.

“No joke.” He said. Wish he would stop.

“Can’t.” he said.

“At least try to butt out.” I was starting to get mad.

“I knew this would happen Edward. The longer you waited the more mad she’d end up.” Aunt Rosalie said.

“That’s it I can’t take anymore of this nonsense.” I stood up and stormed up to my room. I got up onto my bed and wrapped my arms around my knees. I slowly started to break down. I soon found myself crying my eyes out. How could they keep a secret like this from me? I heard my door open. I kept my head down.

“Go away Edward!” I threw a pillow to where his head should be.

“Wow that’s a nice way to greet your aunt.” I sprung up and ran over to Aunt Alice and hugged her.

“They told you didn’t they? You can never trust those two alone with you in the house.” She was shaking her head and chuckling. She pulled me over to my bed and sat me down.

“You look terrible. What happened?” Alice was always the one I went to for advice.

“They told me.”

"You’re so stubborn. You get that from your mom." Tears ran down my face. Alice hugged me.

“So how exactly did Edward mess it up?” I chuckled.

“He invaded my mind.”

“He’s awfully nosy.”

“Why does Edward hate me?” I asked. She rolled her eyes.

“Renesmee Carlie Cullen your father does not hate you.” She took a pause between each word.

“Really because it sure does look like it.” She sighed.

“He just misses your mother. Listen, I have to go talk to your father.” Father Gah. Alice left the room and went downstairs were Edward was sulking. I turned on my radio and within minutes I was asleep.
