I awoke the next morning, hyperventilating, I had had another dream about Victoria, James and Laurent. Edward was there, sitting at the end of my bed. "Love, are you okay?" He asked. It took me a moment to comprehend what he was asking me.

"Fine... Okay... I think..." I stammered. He was back to my side before I had even realized he had left. He held a glass of water out to me. I drank slowly, thinking. I was making every second with him last. I felt myself slipping back into sleep. "Edward," I managed to mumble in a voice barely above a whisper. " I love you"

"I know." He whispered "I love you too."

"I know." I said, finally losing my grip on consciousness, falling back into more tormented dreams. This time, not of James, Laurent and Victoria, but the dream I once had. It was so long ago it seemed like a different life. So much had changed in just a few years. I dreamed that same dream I had dreamed on that first night after Edward had left me. He was walking away. I was running to catch him, but I was just falling farther and farther behind. I was running... running... I couldn't reach him, then... nothing.

When I awoke from that dream, my throat was dry, and my head hurt. I was sweating but there was chills running up and down my spine.

"Alice" I cracked. My throat was burning. Alice was at my side before I had even finished moaning her name.

"Bella, you have a fever." She exclaimed with her hand on my head. She shoved a thermometer in my mouth. "Your temperature is 102.5 degrees! I'm getting Carlisle and Esme!" I felt myself falling again. I was sinking under the water. I heard Esme. I realized she was speaking to me.

"Bella, Bella are you asleep?" She asked me calmly, though to me it sounded like a murmur. It was as if I was sinking to the bottom of the ocean, and she was floating. She spoke again, this time, to Alice, "What was her temperature again?"

"102.5 degrees" Alice stated in a very false calm voice that kept cracking as she spoke.

The last thing I heard spoken was to me. Esme said one, last, false statement. "Everything will be fine Bella"

Such would not be the case.

I fell back into a restless sleep. When I awoke the next morning, my fever had gone away. I felt more or less okay. I looked at the clock. 12:00 P.M. Noon. I thought. I went into the main part of the hotel room. Edward sat, waiting. He turned to me and said the two words I had been dreading.

"They're here."

We were out of there in five minutes. "Who was there?" I asked.

"Aro and Jane." Carlisle answered.

"What is today's date" I said, not knowing how long I had been asleep in my feverish state.

"August 6th." Alice stated flatly.

I silently counted in my head. 7 days.

"We are going to Seattle for a few days, then taking a long wind around path back to Forks for your and Edwards wedding." Esme said from the front seat.

And that was exactly the plan we followed.
