Everyone else was downstairs, laughing at something. I was in my room, crying. My hormones were up and down so I could be fine one second and upset the next. I threw a cushion at my door. I had decorated it with a montage of pictures. There was one of Embry and me. We were at the beach. He was tickling me mercilessly. There was one of me and Alec curled up on the sofa watching a film. Alice had surprised me with that one. I had thought no one was around yet she'd managed to snap a picture without me noticing! I couldn't look at that picture without bursting into tears. There were other ones. Bella, Alice, Nessie, Rose and me at a disco. You could see Jacob in the background laughing at us. There was one that was of Embry with his pack. I wiped my eyes.
"Ow!" I cried out in pain. I felt something sharp. I glanced down at my stomach. A red stain was spreading over my shirt.
"Carlisle!" I shouted. I heard the sound downstairs stop. There were footsteps on the stairs and Carlisle and Bella looked round the door. I cried out in pain again, before falling to my knees.
"Bella, get everyone else to stay away!" said Carlisle quickly. Bella nodded and disappeared downstairs. She reappeared with Embry and Carlisle's medicine kit.
"Don't vampire babies claw their way out?" Bella asked suddenly.
"She's not having the baby yet Bella," said Carlisle. He turned to face her.
"Help her onto the bed. Then I think it's best if you get every vampire out of the house" he instructed. Bella took my arm and led me to the bed. I cried out another time when something stabbed through me. A second stain blossomed on my chest.
"Okay Cadyna. Everything will be okay. From what I can see, some of your ribs have broken, which happened during Bella's pregnancy but what happened is that they've sliced through your skin. Clearly, you are not as strong inside as out. I'm going to have to open you up so that I can move these ribs to the correct place before I tape them up. Okay?"
"Right" I said, trying to ignore the sharp stabbing pains.
"I can't give you an anaesthetic. It might harm the child and also, the needle won't pierce your skin"
"So, my ribs can but needles can't?"
"That's right" Carlisle saw my frail attempt at humour and smiled at me. Embry appeared beside me and took my hand.
"I thought I didn't have to do this until the child was being born?" said Embry. I smiled weakly.
"Gives you a chance to practice"
"Okay. Do you want to swear at me and call me all kinds of stuff for getting you possibly pregnant?" he asked.
"No. I'll think up some swear words and call you them when the time comes. You know, surprise you a bit" I winced as Carlisle did something to my stomach. He worked quickly as he could but the pain was still intolerable. When he finished, he bandaged my stomach and helped me up.
"I'm prescribing bed rest" he had a curious look on his face.
"Carlisle? What is it?" asked Embry, noticing the look.
"Cadyna. I need to tell you something. You're having twins"
