“Just relax. Once you’ve apologized, everything will be fine” I was walking with Edward to lunch. He was about to do the big thing and gain the coven’s trust. Hopefully they’d accept him but personally, I was worried.

“Hi Bella” said Jo, turning to me. It was weird how those four always knew when someone was arriving.

“What is he doing here?” asked Holly, without turning round. Edward looked at me, eyebrows raised. I wasn’t sure if he was wondering how they knew he was coming without looking or him saying anything, or if I really thought everything would be fine. I just shrugged in response.

“I came here to apologize” Holly spun round.
“Really?”

“Yes. I have apologized to Bella for any suffering I put her through”

“That was a ton of suffering then” said Jo.

“And, I wanted to apologize you for hurting your…‘sister’. Can you forgive me and allow us to start over?”

“Whatever” said Holly but she moved her bag from a chair between her and the only other empty seat. I sat down and Edward sat with me. Mike glared at him.

“Thank you” Edward said, to Holly “for allowing me to apologize”

“Sure. Whatever you want” he turned to me.

“I think she likes you” I said, quietly. He smiled in disbelief.

The next couple of days went quickly. Friday, Jo subtly reminded me I was hosting Saturdays circle. So, on Saturday evening, I was hurrying around.

“What are you doing?” said a voice. I jumped.

“Edward, don’t sneak up on me”

“Sorry. What you doing?”

“Setting up. I’m hosting a circle here tonight”

“Right. Where’s Charlie?”

“When it’s my turn, he goes out. He won’t be back until tomorrow lunchtime at the earliest. I don’t know where he goes”

“Ah, the secret life of the quiet little cop” Edward sat down on the kitchen table as I gathered up stuff. He picked up a stick of incense.

“What’s this stuff?”

“Spiced apple incense” I told him. He sniffed it dubiously, and placed it back down looking slightly disgusted. I searched round for the matches. Edward picked up a candle.

“I am hoping these are for decoration only?”

“No”

“Sweet Jesus Bella, you playing with matches. That’s scary” I scowled. Then I found the matches and grinned, waving them in Edward’s face. He backed away in mock terror.

“Are you going to hang around for this? You might not be welcomed as you aren’t part of our coven”

“Oh, so I guess I have to hide out in your bedroom?” he didn’t sound that disappointed.

“I’d actually leave. Jo and that lot have a sixth sense. They know when people are around”

“I’ll leave when they turn up” the doorbell rang.

“I thought you said this thing started at nine? It’s only half eight” said Edward, confused. I had a hunch who it was. I walked to the door. Jacob grinned when he saw me and hugged me, tightly. Edward was next to me in a flash, shoving him off of me.

“What do you think you’re doing hugging my girlfriend?” Edward demanded.

“Who the hell are you?” Jacob asked. Then he nodded, realizing.

“Jacob, this is Edward Cullen. Edward, this is Jacob Black. Err…you’re early Jake”

“I always come over early. By our standards, I’m late” he bustled into the living room and seated himself on the sofa. I didn’t know where to sit. If I sat on the chair, Edward would be stuck next to Jake. That wasn’t good. So I sat on the sofa next to Jake, who automatically threw an arm around my shoulder. Edward muttered under his breath and I swear I heard him growl.

“I seriously hope he’s not staying for the circle?” Jake asked.

“No. he’ll leave at nine”

“Great, so when the others leave I’ll have you all to myself”

“What do you mean?” I asked, confused.

“Charlie told me that I could stay over? Like normal?” I glanced apprehensively at Edward. He was pinching the bridge of his nose.

“Err…Edward?” I started to say.

“Bella, I’ll see you tomorrow” he said hurriedly before vanishing out of the door. Edward hadn’t been back long and I’d already scared him off.
