Chapter 3: Wild Werewolves Couldn't Keep Me Away

~BPOV~

When we made it to La Push, I heaved a deep sigh of relief. It gave me comfort knowing that Alice or any of the Cullens would never come here. Jake parked his motorcycle in front of his house.

"Bella?" Jake's father, Billy called wheeling his chair out to the porch. "What are you doing here? Don't you have school today?" he said in a disapproving tone.

"I won't tell if you won't," I said walking up to him.

"Bella, Charlie will be very disappointed to hear that you skipped school."

"Well then, we just won't tell him. Besides, I want to spend the day with my other family," I said, kissing his cheek. Billy smiled then, giving in. He was such an easy sell sometimes.

We went inside and I cooked breakfast for Billy and Jake. I swear, cooking for Jake was like cooking for an entire locker room full of athletes. When Jake finished his breakfast, I changed into my bathing suit and put my clothes on top of them. We walked to the beach and Quil, Embry, Seth, Leah, Paul, Sam and Jared were already there.

"Well, well, thought the bloodsuckers had you too brainwashed to come here?" Paul joked when he saw Jake holding my hand.

"Hey, what gives? There's no vampire stink on you today!" Embry joked.

"That's because he's out of town hunting. He'll be gone for the next two days and instead of being under house arrest at vamp central, I thought I'd hang out with my friends. That is...if Leah doesn't mind me being here?" I said looking to Leah, who had not once took her eyes away from the fire.

"Of course she doesn't mind," Jake answered as if he were worried that Leah would make me leave.

"Leah?" I pressed.

"Jake's happy, then I'm happy. It's nice to have you back, Swan," she said with a wry smile.

"Hey, wild werewolves couldn't keep me away."

They laughed and whatever tension there once was faded into an easy silence.

"Hey, let's go swimming!" I said as the others agreed, shedding their clothes.

I removed my top while Jake whistled. When I realized he was watching, I slid my jeans down my legs slowly, teasing him. He laughed, picking me up and racing me to the water. We swam and splashed each other for about two hours. After that, Emily and Kim came down to the beach bringing hot dogs, marshmallows and soda. I grabbed a towel and sat beside Leah on one of the logs. She was watching Sam and Emily swim together.

"Hey," I said, nudging her with my shoulder. "Are you ok?"

"Do I look ok?" she snapped. "I'm sorry. It's just been rough lately, you know. With my dad being gone and my mom so sad all the time and on top of it all, my wonderful cousin is on top of the world with the man who was the love of my life. The really screwed up part about it all is that I can't hate them for it because you can't help who you imprint on. Jake can attest to that."

"Wait, what? Jake imprinted?" I felt hurt that Jake was in love with someone else. He was my Jacob.

"Oh come on, Bella. You're a bright girl. I'm sure you know." She looked at me as I stared at her with my mouth hanging open. "Oh my god. You really don't know, do you?"

"Know what, Leah?"

"Bella, Jake imprinted on you the first time he saw you again. When you first came back to Forks. You seriously, didn't know?"

"No! I mean, how could I? He never said anything. I mean, he did try to kiss me a few months ago, but your dad had just passed and I thought he was just really emotional. Why didn't he say anything?"

"Well, what could he say? You were so tight with that bloodsucker. He didn't want you to feel pressured."

"But Leah, he's been suffering this whole time and so have I. I suffered like hell when we were apart and I couldn't explain it. This...this changes everything. If he would have told me..."

"If he would have told you, what?"

"I would have never started a relationship with Edward. Jake and I wouldn't have lost all of this time."

"So what are you going to do about it?"

That was a good question.

"I wish you could spend the night here," Jake said as we slowly walked back to his house.

"So do I. I'll tell you what. Take me home tonight, I'll make Charlie dinner and I'll ask him if we could come over tomorrow. Maybe you can get your dad on board and while they're doing their thing, we can do ours."

"Bella, when did you become so diabolical?"

I laughed, entwining our fingers. "I honestly don't know, Jake. I guess I just have a knack for being a bad girl."

"Well, I'm glad, because I find this new side of you incredibly sexy," he said, turning to me.

"Really? How sexy?"

He leaned into me, a devious smirk on his face. "You're not stopping me," he said, rubbing his lips across mine.

"Maybe I don't want to."

He pulled away, sighing. "I really don't want any of this to end, Bella. I don't want to ever have to let you go."

"Maybe you won't."

He smiled, confusion dancing in his eyes. "This wouldn't have anything to do with the conversation you had with Leah today, would it?"

"Leah and I had some girl talk."

"Uh-huh. You know we're all going to know what you talked about when we phase. There are no secrets in the pack."

"I know, but until that time, you leave Leah alone. You know, I was thinking, I have this cousin who lives in Florida. He's a really nice guy. He's single and he's in his third year of college at the University of West Florida. I could give him a call and see if he wants to visit his favorite cousin."

"Bella, are you seriously trying to play matchmaker to a werewolf?"

"Well, it's not like he has to know that part right away. I'm sure there's no etiquette laws I'm breaking in not telling my cousin that his blind date is a beautiful, sexy werewolf." I laughed.

"I'm sure Leah will love that compliment. She doesn't hate you, you know."

"Hopefully, this will make that true. You remember those days I spent here? When you and the pack would spend the morning and most of the days running the perimeter and you would come back to Emily's house and I would be there waiting for you?"

"How could I not? Those were the best days of my life."

"It seemed like those days would never end, didn't it?"

"They almost didn't. But then that damn she-leech came and took you away from me. You don't know how much it hurts being away from you, Bella."

"Jake, I-." And right on cue, my cell phone started to ring, interrupting the moment.

"Is that your bloodsucker?"

I looked up at Jacob and his body started trembling. I should have been scared that he would phase and hurt me the way Sam hurt Emily, but as I did once with Edward, I trusted Jake with my life. I placed my hand on his face and his trembling stopped at once.

"Relax." Sighing heavily, I answered the phone. "Hello?"

"Alice will meet the two of you at the treaty line." Then the line went dead.

"Ooh, I'm in trouble," I said with dramatic shivers.

"That's not funny, Bella. I don't want you going to him tonight. Not while he's upset."

"Jake, Edward isn't going to do anything to me. Now you, he might tear you apart."

"I would welcome the chance of seeing that leech try. I just don't want him to hurt you, though."

"Edward cannot hurt me anymore than he already has."

"What does that mean?"

"Nothing."

"No, don't say nothing. What's that about? Did that bloodsucker do something to you? I swear, Bella, treaty or no treaty, if he touched you his forever will end tonight!"

"I appreciate that, but I was talking about how he left me. Physically, he's never done anything to me. All right?"

"Okay. Well, I guess we got to get you to the she-leech. And I will see you tomorrow, right?"

"Right."

Jake drove me to the treaty line where Alice sat in her car. I could practically see her clutching the steering wheel when Jake hugged me. I got inside of the car, expecting Alice to take me home.

"What are we doing here?" I said as we pulled into the garage of her house.

"Edward's back."
