Chapter five: Matthew who now?

Alice started zapping through the channels. “Say if there is anything you would like to watch.” she told me, and smiled.

“I really don’t feel like watching TV.” I told her, mouth full of eggs.

“Okay.” She said and placed the remote on the table in front of me.

“What would you like to do today?” she asked me, in her singing voice, the one she used when she got all excided.

“Is letting me go home an option?” I asked her hopefully.

She laughed, “No silly. It has to be something we can do in the house.”

I pouted, “Sleep?” I asked.

“Something we can do together, please.”

I choked in a piece of bacon, and stared at her frightened. “Well, I wanna sleep… Just I don’t wanna sleep with you.” I said “I prefer sleeping alone, thank you.”

Emmett walked in through the door, still sulking.

“I don’t wanna sleep with you Bella,” she started.

Emmett stopped in his tracks, looking at us wide eyed. “Huh… Alice, I don’t think Edward would appreciate you hitting on his girlfriend.” He said laughing.

“Shut it Emmett.” Alice said flatly.

What? “WHAT!” I yelled. “What are you talking about, whose girlfriend?”

Alice gave Emmett an infuriated glare, and looked out the window distantly.

“Don’t freak out Bella, please.” Emmett said.

“MY NAME IS NOT BELLA!” I yelled back furiously. “WHY CAN’T YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?” why couldn’t they understand that, it was annoying and infuriating, and now all my frustrations were just poring out like an open hatch to a waterfall.

“Because that’s your name, you just don’t know yet.”

Alice had turned to look at me, “please just calm down, Bella.”

“STOP CALLING ME...” I started furiously, but I was so mad I couldn’t finish. My hands were balled up into fists, and I bet smoke was coming out my ears had this been a cartoon.

“Please just stop calling her Bella, Alice.” Emmett hissed through his teeth. “Don’t give her one of those hissy fits.”

“No,” she said stubborn. “Her name is Bella.”

Is not!” I said childlike.

“Is to,” Alice argued back.

“I can go on forever, Bella.” She said.

“So can I Alice.” I said irritated.

“Liar!” she chipped, and walked out the room.

I stared after her baffled. “What!” I yelled after her. “You… you… ahhh!”

Rosalie walked into the room, “what’s going on?” she demanded, looking at Emmett.

“It’s nothing,” he said looking at me, and then looked to talk to her, “Finished with the car?” he asked.

“Almost, that’s what I came in for, I need a hand.”

“So? You’re not mad anymore?” Emmett asked her hopefully.

“Ha!” she exclaimed and threw her head back in an exaggerated laugh. “Not a chance big boy.”

I crossed my arms, and started sulking.

“Oh great,” Emmett said and sighed deeply, and then I think I head him mumble something that sounded like “female’s.” before I saw him from the corner of my eye backing up and go silently through the front doors after Rosalie, though I hadn’t noticed her leaving, but I saw the top of her head disappear outside the house.

The hours flew by. Alice and I had made friends again, after our ramble earlier, and now I was sitting in the room going through everything that had happened to me, ever since I got to know these people. They were strange, not like other people, just look at their appearances; people don’t walk around looking like supermodels, and not people who wasn’t even related. Alice told me Carlisle and Esme adopted them a long time ago, and that they were a little different then other people, but she wouldn’t tell me why. They were constant sneaking up on you, and talking very silently to each other, sometimes even in a different language. It was weird, they seamed extremely intelligent, and sweet, looking past the fact they kidnapped me, and are holding me against my will… I kinda liked them.

Alice came into the room I stayed in, and sat on the couch, I was listening to some of the CD’s from the bookshelves, when she interrupted me.

“Matthew is here.” she said.

“Matthew?” I asked.

“Yes, dummy.” Alice sang “He’s the one who will help you remember.” She said thrilled.

I sighed hopelessly. “When are you gonna give up?” I asked annoyed.

“Never,” she chanted, and danced over to the CD player, where I stood. “Come on, I’ll help you downstairs.”

“I don’t wanna.” I complained.

“That’s just too bad.” She said cheerfully, and helped me off the couch.

We walked down the stairs, and into the living room. There was a new person in the room, and it looked like all I had met so far was here, even Rosalie. Alice planted me on the couch, and danced out, in where I believed would be the kitchen. A few moments later she came back with a plate of fried eggs and bacon.

“Thanks?” I said a little bewildered. It smelled absolutely wonderful, and I was famished, so I picked up the fork and stuffed a huge slice of egg in my mouth. They let me eat my food in peace, which was pleasing. It gave me time to ponder. I wondered what events they had planned for me, and when this Matthew person couldn’t make me remember. Then what would they do to me…

“Hello Bella, I’m Matthew.” The new person said, and this time I didn’t gasp because of his looks, but because unlike the rest of them, this one had crimson red eyes. Fear must have showed on my face, because when he saw my expression he took a conscious step back.

“I’m sorry,” he said, “I didn’t mean to frighten you.”

“You didn’t,” I said honestly, “Just surprised me.”

He smiled. “Shall we?” He said, holding out his hands for me.

“Help you remember, again.” He explained politely.

I chortled hysterically, and hopelessly.

He raised an eyebrow at me, and then addressed Carlisle. “Is something wrong with her?”

“No, she’s fine,” he promised, “she’s just confused, and probably a little scared.” He said kindly, and shot a look at Jasper, and he nodded solemnly. Instantly I felt calm and soothed. I didn’t understand, and it was frustrating, though I couldn’t feel it…

If it didn’t work, then at least I would prove to them I wasn’t Bella. But then what would happen?

“If you don’t feel like doing it now, we can wait until later.” Carlisle suggested politely.

“What if it doesn’t work?” I asked my thoughts out loud not hearing Carlisle’s suggestion.

“I don’t understand,” Matthew said, “why wouldn’t it work?” The others shared a look at each other.

“Well for one thing, making me remember something that never happened to me, that’s… It’s just… It’s impossible!”

“I assure you, that it is very possible.” Matthew stated insulted.

“Ha!” I laughed hysterically, “don’t treating me like a naïve little child!” I said frustrated.

“Elizabeth-” Carlisle started, but I cut him off.

“No!” I screamed, “No more games,” I said trying to control the anger that fumed in me, “I can’t handle it anymore.” Tears were streaming down my cheeks. “I wanna go home.” I sobbed.

Jasper left the room, but before he left I got a look at his face, he looked horrible, like he was about to break down.

Emmett, Alice, Esme, Rosalie and Carlisle looked at me sympathetic. Matthew on the other hand looked annoyed and I swear I saw him roll his eyes at me.

Carlisle sighed, “Elizabeth,” he said getting my attention. “If it doesn’t work, you will be free to go home.”

This was what I needed to hear, I would be going home again, I would see my family… I dried the tears from my face with the edge of my sleeve.

“You promise?” I asked suspiciously.

“I promise. You won’t be harmed.” Carlisle spoke kindly.

I believed him for some reason, his word, that I wouldn’t be harmed, put me at ease.

I held out my hands. “Just get it over with.”

Matthew walked closer and took my outstretched hands in his very gently like he was holding a very delicate piece of glass in his hands. His hands were cold, hard, and yet still soft.

“Ready?” he asked.

“Ready.” I echoed him shyly.
