Chapter six: Can I go home now?

We sat there for what felt like hours, before Matthew finally let go of my hands.

“I don’t understand.” He said sitting down on the couch, looking like he had just run a marathon. “It usually works, but it seams I just can’t get through.”

Carlisle sighed hopelessly.

“What now?” Emmett asked, giving me a concerned look.

“I honestly don’t know Emmett,” Carlisle said sadly, “she must have kept her ability to block people from entering her mind.”

Esme looked like she could cry, I didn’t like that. Esme was so kind and loving, almost like a second mother to me. But I couldn’t stay here; I had my own family, my own life to live.

“I guess we could try again in the morning.” Carlisle said soothing to Esme.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing; he promised me I would go home if it didn’t work. “You promised,” I spoke almost silently. “I would go home, you told me that.” I looked at Carlisle my eyes were wet; I was pushing back the tears in my eyes.

“I know, and you are free to go,” he said kindly, “but would you consider staying for the night, I know my family and I would love that.”

I sighed, I really wanted to go home, but there was something inside me, pushing me to stay here, I wanted so badly to stay.

“No,” I said hesitantly, “I need to leave.”

“Alright,” Carlisle said understandingly, “Emmett will take you back to your car.”

“Thank you,” I said even though, I didn’t like the prospect of being alone with that big bully for hours straight, “when can we leave?”

“Whenever you’re ready,” he said, and gestured towards Emmett.

Esme had her face set in an unhappy pout; her eyebrows pushed together creating a dent between them.

Emmett looked rather unhappy. He was sulking, and it didn’t fit him well.

I was getting my purse in the room I had stayed in for the past couple of days. When I heard Emmett clear his throat, letting me know I wasn’t alone.

“Hello Emmett,” I said politely. I was going home, so there was no need for me to be rude towards him anymore.

“Hey,” he said cheerfully.

“What?” I asked him suspiciously, I knew that look, it was the look he had when he won a bet, or a debate.

“Oh, nothing.” He practically could be singing with joy. He walked over the leather couch and sat down noisily.

I narrowed my eyes at him, and raised both my eyebrows.

He laughed boomingly, and got up from the couch, “you got everything you need… Bella?” he eyed me knowingly.

“Elizabeth,” I corrected him with a glare, “and yes, I have all my things right here,” I held up my purse.

“That’s good, Bella, then I’ll race you downstairs.” He looked at me daringly.

“HA! Funny.” I said pointing at my ankle, “and for the last time, my name is Elizabeth.” I spit through my teeth.

He laughed again, and before I could react he had pulled me up from the floor, and placed me on his rock hard shoulder. He walked out of the room with me squirming on his back, yelling at him to put me down.

He didn’t listen and a minute later we were downstairs again.

“Emmett, what are you doing?” Jasper asked him disapprovingly.

“Just carrying Bella out in the car, don’t want her to fall down now.” He said casually, mocking me.

I saw Jasper shook his head and Alice role her eyes, as we passed them out the front door.

I had given up on telling him to put me down and just let him maneuver me into a black jeep outside the house. He closed the door and grinned widely at my angry expression.

Alice, Jasper and Carlisle stood at the front door waving when we drove away. I felt a tightening in my chest saying goodbye to them, it felt horrible and I didn’t understand it, I just felt I didn’t want to say goodbye to them, like they where important to me. I shook it of and waved back casually.

-------------

We drove in silence, again. The only thing different this time was, I didn’t lie on the backseat this time, and I wasn’t being kidnapped. I was going back to my car and my life, and I was never going to look back ever again.

As we passed several signs the first one indicating that we were leaving a town called Forks and another affirm we were driving towards Seattle. I sighed, the first thing I was gonna do was call me mom. After getting my cell phone back from Emmett, and tell her I was alright. A dark voice intruded my mind. What if she doesn’t even know you where missing? It told me, I shook it off. Stupid no matter how much I though my mom didn’t care, of course she would notice when she had called me and then called the campus. What if she hadn’t called? THAT’S ENOUGH! I though back. Stupid, I was having a mental discussing with myself. I was utterly going crazy.

“Something wrong Bella?” Emmett asked me.

I didn’t realize I had frowned, “No nothings wrong Mr. Idiot.” I grimaced, “and my name is not Bella.” I growled.

He laughed.

-

We had driven for thirty minutes before he spoke to me again, I remembered this highway, this is where he and his brother kidnapped me, “Bella get down,” he rushed me pulled my head softly down.

“What’s wrong?” I asked terror in my voice.

“It’s no use,” he said mostly to himself. “Bella, climb in the back and pull that blanket over you.” He indicated towards a black blanket on the back seat.

He had pulled over, and was looking at me pleading.

“Why?” I asked.

“Just trust me, please.” He begged.

I did as told and just as I pulled the blanket over me I heard the car door open. Emmett was getting out of the car, “Where you going?” I asked him suspiciously.

“Just wait here,” he said and smiled weakly, “I’ll be right back.”

I peeked out the window to see where he was going, and before I even blinked he was gone, in between the trees. I didn’t even see him move, he just disappeared. I fought back a gasp and hid back under the blanket.

Ten minutes later the car door was opened, someone got in, and started the vehicle. Making a U turn, and driving back.

I looked out from the blanket and saw Emmett sitting stiffly behind the steering wheel.

“Emmett?” I asked silently, not knowing what to expect. “Where are we going?”

“We’re going back to Carlisle,” he said calmly but I could hear the tension in his voice, “something’s come up.”

I climbed back into the front seat. “What do you mean?” I asked him searching his face for more information then his mouth gave me.

He looked at me briefly and I thought I saw sadness in his eyes but it was so brief I didn’t know if I was just seeing things. Now his eyes were kind, understanding and filled with sorrow.

“I have to confront Carlisle first.” He said shortly, looking back at the road.

I looked at the speedometer, and gasped. We were driving 150 mph, “Slow down!” I yelled terrified, and surprised, the car didn’t even flinch, it was so steady on the road he could have been driving 30 mph.

“What?” he followed my gaze, and chuckled, “Relax Bella, nothing is going to happen.”

I chuckled hysterically; “Sure,” I said sarcastically, “because driving 150 miles per hour is safe!” I yelled lividly. “Slow down!” I yelled again.

“Alright!” he said annoyed and slowed to 100 mph. “better?”

“Better then 150, but far from good enough,” I said terror in my voice, I was clutching the door, and my seatbelt.

“Just let me focus on the driving,” he growled annoyed.

“You’re gonna get us killed,” I accused him angrily.

“I have never been in a car accident before Bella, so please trust me.”

“Ha!” I said sarcastically, “You’re like what? 20, 21?” I asked him.

He frowned at me, but didn’t answer. God he is so annoying and irresponsible!

I glared at him all the way back to the house and as the house appeared behind the trees all I could think was; there goes my freedom.

Alice, Jasper, Carlisle and Esme were standing on the porch to greet us.

Emmett helped me out of the car, and helped me back into the house.

“Carlisle,” Emmett said when we passed them on the porch, “I need to speak with you.”

“Yes.” Carlisle responded simply before they walked out of the room and into the kitchen.

“Bella!” Alice screamed, when Carlisle and Emmett was out the room, “I missed you so much!”

I looked at her stunned and confused, “Eh, Alice.” I said baffled, as she had picked me up and hug me into her closely, I was stunned, and how could that tiny girl be so strong? “I haven’t even been gone for a day, and you missed me?” I asked breathless.

“I thought I wasn’t going to see you again.” She sobbed on my chest after putting me back down. “But then I saw you home!” she was jumping up and down now. “I’m so excided!” she shrieked, hurting my ears.

“Easy Alice!” I rubbed my right ear with a free hand. “You’re hurting my ears.”

“Sorry,” she whispered, still thrilled. Her eyes were sparkling with joy. I realized I never wanted to hurt this girl… She was just so happy and tiny, I wanted to protect her. She was actually nice, a little weird and annoying but sweet.

“It’s okay,” I assured her, “so is someone going to tell me what’s going on?” I asked the room; Rosalie raised an eyebrow at me and left out the door.

I started feeling uneasy and slightly panicked, “please,” I begged Alice, “please tell me what is wrong -” I sobbed still begging, “I’m scared.”

“Jasper,” Alice hissed.

“Sorry.”

The feeling was gone, and replaced with calm.

“What was that?” I asked suspiciously.

“Sorry,” Jasper said embarrassed, “I’m a little uneasy.”

I looked at him confused, “what does that have to do with me?”

Alice gave him an annoyed look, “nothing,” she said turning back to me, “he just rubs off a little.”

I raised an eyebrow, “uh huh?”

“Yeah,” Jasper agreed.

I glared at them both, I was pretty annoyed. But I didn’t get to put my frustration into words before Emmett and Carlisle was back in the room.

“Elizabeth,” Carlisle said calmly.

“What?” I growled.

Carlisle gave Alice and Jasper a confused look.

Alice shrugged, and Jasper looked guilty.

I looked at Carlisle guiltily, “sorry,” I mumbled.

“Do not worry about it,” he assured me.

I smiled sheepishly.

Esme came in the room, “Elizabeth,” she said kindly, “are you hungry dear?”

I smiled widely, Esme’s cooking skills were fantastic and I was hungry.

“Good,” she smiled, “come into the kitchen with me.” she extended her arm to me, and I took it gladly.
