Chapter 10 - A Woman Scorned

The car ride home from Port Angeles was pretty quiet, both Edward and I were still in shock over seeing Chuck so blatantly cheat on Rosalie in public. Edward had to practically drag me out of the store kicking and screaming because I was so mad. I just couldn't get over that that manwhore had the nerve to cheat on Rosalie with some tramp, in the middle of a freaking Walmart!

For the rest of the ride home I tried to figure out how I was going to break the news to Rosalie. The irrational part of me wished that I would have just chickened out and bought her a ‘Sorry your boyfriends cheating on you’ card, but I highly doubt that that’s one of Walmart’s best sellers... The rational part of my brain realized that I was going to have to sit her down and talk to her face to face. I just wasn’t sure how that conversation was going to go.

It was pretty late in the evening, when Edward pulled up in front of Rose’s house. Her BMW was in the driveway, so I knew there was a good chance that she was home. Again, part of me really hoped she wasn’t...

“Do you want me to come in with you?” Edward asked, pulling me out of my thoughts as he parked the car, and turned it off.

“No, I think this is something I have to do on my own. I don't think Rose is going to want an audience when she finds about her boyfriends infidelity.” I said as I unhooked my seatbelt and opened the car door. “I don't think it’s a good idea to tell any of the guys about this just yet, so try to hold off telling anyone until after I finish talking with Rose. The last thing we need is for Emmett or Jasper to get all macho and take off after Chuck.”

“Yea, that sounds like a pretty good idea. Text me if you need me and I’ll be over in a flash, okay Bells?” he said as I hopped out of the car. “Okay Edward, I’ll text you later and let you know how things go. I said as I shut the car door.

I made my way over to the front door of the Hale’s house. Actually a house was probably an understatement; it was more like a mansion. Unlike the Cullen’s beautiful Victorian style home, there’s was more chique and modern. Apparently the new Mrs. Hale had it built right after Mr. Hale left his former wife; apparently they built it in hopes of a fresh start with their new life.

A little while after I knocked on the door, a young, blond woman answered the door. I immediately recognized her from Rosalie’s description, it was her step mom. “Good evening, Mrs. Hale, would Rosalie be home?” I asked in a rather sweet yet fake tone. I really didn't like this woman all that much, since she was the reason that her step-son couldn't go home and was currently living with me instead.

“Yep, upstairs in her room,” she answered in a rather bored tone.

I quickly thanked her, and made my way up the front lobby’s staircase. I’d been here a couple times since I’d moved to Forks, so I knew my way to Rosalie’s room. When I got there I knocked on her bedroom door and mentally went over what I was going to say as I waited for her to answer.

“Hey beautiful” she said as she opened the door, “I wasn’t expecting to see you tonight, how was your date with Edward?” she asked as she skipped over and sat on her bed, looking expectantly at me.

“It wasn’t a date” I groaned, as I sat down beside her. “And up to a point, it was really fun, but that’s not why I'm here.” God I wanted to kill Chuck for having put me in this situation, it shouldn’t be the best friends job to tell her friend that her boyfriend of over a year is shaking up behind her back. “Rose, honey, I really need to talk to you.” I sighed.

“What’s wrong? Did Edward do something? Do you want me to teach that boy some manners? Cause if he pressured you into anything-”

“God no Rose, it’s nothing like that!” I shrieked, quickly cutting off her thought. I sighed; I guess it was now or never. “Rose, while Edward and I were in Port Angeles, we saw something we weren’t meant to see, something pretty bad...”

“Okay Bella, spit it out, you’re really starting to freak me out!” she moaned in frustration. I just took a deep breath and let the words fall out of my mouth.

“EdwardandIsawChuckcheatingonyouwithanothergirlinthemiddleofWalmart!” I muttered, hiding my head in my hands, trying to avoid seeing her reaction.

“WHAT!” she seethed. I have to admit, she’s pretty scary when she’s ticked.

“When Edward and I were in Port Angeles, we saw Chuck making out with some girl in the middle of Walmart.” I chanced a look at her, and she was still freaking out.

“I can’t believe that asshole would do this to me! He told me he was studying! God, when I get my hands on him he’s going to be able to bend in ways he’s never bent before!” Great... now she was contemplating bodily harm!

“Rosalie-” I said a little shakily, “you’re not going to do anything stupid, right?” she just ignored my question.

“Omg! He’s going to regret the day he ever messed around on Rosalie Hale! I swear when I get done with him he’s going to have his head stuffed up his ass!” she yelled as she furiously started pacing her room.

She continued to pace until suddenly she got a mischievous look in her eye. “Come on Bella, we’re going to make a visit to the University of Washington!” okay, now I’m scared.

“Um... Rosalie? It’s almost 11 o’clock at night... Don’t you think it’s a little late for us to be making a social call?” I asked hesitantly, as she ran over towards her wardrobe, and started rummaging through her clothes. Okay, I was officially worried.

“Here-” she said as she threw me a pair of black skinny jeans and a matching three quarter sleeve shirt, that she had miraculously produced from her search, “throw these on, were going to need to blend in.” Okay now I was past worried and moved on to panicking!

I reluctantly went to the bathroom across the hall from Rosalie’s room. I decided it best to go along with whatever she was planning, my objections wouldn’t stop her, so the best I could do was go along with her and keep her from doing anything too crazy.

When I got to the bathroom I laid out the outfit that she had given me. I unenthusiastically discarded my clothes and changed into the pair of skinny jeans and shirt that she had given me. Shockingly, they actually looked pretty hot on me. When I was done I returned to Rose’s room where I found her dressed in a similar outfit to my own. She was wearing an identical pair of jeans, but she had matched her’s with a short black hoodie and had tied back her golden locks into a messy ponytail.

“Here-” she said as she tossed a hair brush and a box of hair ties at me, “tie back your hair; you’re definitely going to want to remain as inconspicuous as possible.” Yea, that sure made me feel all warm and fuzzy! What the hell were we doing?!

I hadn’t noticed when Rosalie bent over and picked up something that had been hidden under her bed. From a second glance a recognized it to be a long wooden bat.

“What the hell is that?!” I asked, as she started twirling it.

“What this?” she asked, holding up the bat. I simply nodded. “This is the bat Emmett lent me for softball practice last year, I’ve been meaning to return it, but I don't think he’ll mind if we take it out for a little while.” She said shrugging with an evil look in her eye. Warning bells were going off in my head! She wasn’t seriously going to hurt him, was she?

“Rose, I know you’re upset and all... but what do you exactly think you’re going to do? try and knock some sense into him?” I asked as I continued to nervously eye the bat.

“Calm down Bella, you’re going to get worry lines. Were not going to hurt him, we’re just going to make a little trip; you’ve never been to the Washington campus before, right?” I shook my head. “Then take this as a good chance to check out the school.” She said as she grabbed her bag and the keys to her BMW. “Now come on, we have a long drive ahead of us.” I sighed and followed her out of her room.

********

We drove for three hours in silence. Rosalie was still fuming, and whenever I chanced a look at her she looked like she was going to explode. I was half expecting to see steam blow out of her ears at any second. The drive went by relatively fast, and it wasn’t long before we were pulling into the parking lot of one of the university dorms. We had made the trip in about half the time, thanks to Rose’s speeding and the lack of cars on the road at this time of night.

Rose parked the car next to someone’s blue Volkswagen Jetta, and hopped out of the driver’s seat before grabbing the bat out of the back seat. I reluctantly followed suit by getting out of the passenger side of the car and quietly following her to a green Mustang, parked on the other side of the lot. I could see why she chose the dark clothing; we blended in very well with the moonless night.

Rosalie was circling the car with a firm hold on her bat, pausing every now and again to slide her hand along the car’s exterior. We stayed in silence for a few minutes, before I decided to take a chance and speak. “Rose, what’s this?” she never took her eyes off the car as she answered me.

“This right here-” she said as she leaned over the car and patted the hood, “is a ’67 Ford Mustang, the car that I graciously spent my entire summer last year helping Chuck rebuild from scratch.” She said as she hopped off the hood and sauntered over to the passenger side, while continuously swinging Emmett’s bat.

“The car that he drove us to the movies in on our first date!” she yelled, shocking me as she took a swing at the front bumper. “The car where we shared our first kiss!” she screamed, this time swinging and connecting with the passenger’s side mirror. “The car where he told me he loved me and that we would always be together!” she yelled as the bat connected with passenger side window. The window shattered on impact, imploding inside the car. I just stood there, too stunned to react.

As soon as I found the nerve I tried to reason with her; “Rosalie, I know he hurt you, but is it really worth going to jail for public destruction?” I asked as I calmly walked over to her, and placed a steadying head on her shoulder. But she just shook it off, she wasn’t having any of it, she was a scorned woman on a mission and god help anyone who got in her way!

“Don’t worry; I’ve already thought this through. Chuck’s probably too busy getting himself off with some random slut to realize anything’s going on with his car and he’s too innocent and naive to think that I’d have the balls to do something like this, so he’ll most likely blame some random drunk.” She said, smiling smugly, as she to a crack at the windshield. Geez! Normal girls cry and consume an entire tub of ice cream when their boyfriends cheat on them, but no... Not Rosalie Hale! Does she always have to be the exception to every freaking rule?!

“Rosalie, honey, I know your upset, and I can’t imagine what you’re going through-” I said before she cut me off. “Bella I refuse to cry like some helpless victim! He’s the one who messed up and now his precious car is paying the price!” she seethed as she shattered the taillights.

God I wish I would have thought to bring Emmett, he probably would have been able to help me restrain her... I’d even settle for Alice right about now. I’m no good at this and I bet she’d know what to say to help calm her down.

“Rosalie, look at me” I said taking hold of the bat before staring her down. “You are a strong, independent woman. Don't let this jerk make you act this way; don't give him the satisfaction of being able to tell all his buds about his crazy ex who took out his car. Let’s just go home so you can dump his sorry ass, and move on with your life, okay?”

“Ugh!” she yelled in frustration. “I can’t believe I'm allowing him to make me to react this way, it’s not like I'm not going to be better off without him, right? He been a total jerk these past few weeks, and he wasn’t even there when all the shit went down with Jasper and my mom. Instead he went off on you about me not being able to call him back that night! God, what an idiot!” she sniffled as she sat down on the ground, trying recompose herself and hold back her tears of anger. I was impressed; she really wasn’t giving Chuck the satisfaction of shedding tears over him.

I was still trying to figure out what to say, I wanted to comfort her and tell her she was better off, but I also wanted to tell her to keep swinging because his sorry ass deserved it. So instead I went over and gave her a hug. “Rosalie, I know I'm not Alice, and she’d probably be way better at calming you down right about now, but I know she’d agree with me when I say that you’ve got to believe that you have your whole life ahead of you, and that this is just one minor setback. Rose, he’s an idiot if he doesn’t realize what an amazing girl you are. Any guy in their right mind would be lucky to have someone as sweet and caring as you in their lives. You actually never know, maybe the right guy is waiting for you right around the corner...” I said, casually hinting towards Emmett. God, he better appreciate this!

“You promise?” she sniffed. God I hated seeing her so beat up over this jerk.

“Yes, now what do you say we go home? Okay?” she sighed and got up off the ground, brushing the dirt off her pants. I'm glad that she got the anger out of her system, too bad I couldn't say the same about me. That jackass hurt my friend and put me in a very compromising situation. “Hey, Rose hold up a sec, can I see the bat?” she looked at me warily but none the less handed me the bat.

I walked over to the driver’s side of the car; I lined up the bat with the window, “This is for hurting my best friend!” I seethed before taking a hard swing. The sound of wood shattering the window gave me a very gratifying high. I could see why Rose got such a release off it. God that girl was rubbing off on me, this couldn't be good!

Once I was completely satisfied with my work, I retreated away from the car and made my way back over to Rosalie. She just gave me an amused smirk and wrapped me in a hug. “Thanks Bella, I'm really glad you moved here, I don't know what I would have done without my bestfriend.” She smiled

“Anytime, Rose. Now let’s go home and call Alice so we can forget this day and drown our sorrows in a tub of ice cream.”
