4. Life Goes On

Rating 5/5   Word Count 2568   Review this Chapter

When I got home I collapsed from exhaustion, and fell asleep on the couch. I slept, all evening and all night.

When I woke up it was only 4am. I had gotten in impressive eleven hours of sleep. I rolled over and hopped out of bed. I was actually feeling really good this morning. I guess getting caught up on my sleep had made me a lot more chipper. I had a quick shower, and got dressed in a cute pair of faded jeans with a pink sweater. I decided to take the time and actually straighten my hair this morning, since it was only about 530am. After my hair was actually looking pretty good, I skipped my way down to the kitchen.

I got a bowl of cocoa puffs and grabbed my laptop out of my room. I decided since I had time to spare that I’d email the family while I was finishing up with breakfast. I grabbed my computer and bowl and plopped myself on the couch.

Hey dad.

I survived my first day! Although only somewhat unscaffed... I only made a fool of myself like five times, which I guess is good considering it’s me. I got to talk to Ry; he says he’s doing well.

You’d like it here dad, Forks is really starting to grow on me. The weather kind of sucks, but it’s actually really beautiful. There are trees as far as the eye can see.

You don't have to worry about me; I’ve already managed to meet some really nice friends. Alice and Rose our already like the sisters I’ve never had. We just fit really well together and we have a lot of fun. And their brothers, Emmett and Jasper, you’d really like them, their protective and remind me a lot of you.

I miss you terribly, and I'm counting down the days until you return to me.

Be safe

I love you

Bella

After I sent my father’s email, I wrote three similar ones to my brothers talking about my first few days in Forks and sent them. By the time I had finished, it was 8am and so I put on my warm rain-coat, grabbed the keys to the truck, and made my way to school.

“Dang Bells!” Emmet let out a whistle. “Those are some hot wheels you got going on there.” He laughed as I was parking my truck next to his monstrosity of a jeep.

“What, this little ole thing?” I laughed as hopped out of the truck, grabbed my bag and locked the doors.

BELLA!” Alice cheered as she ran over to me dragging Jasper along with her. “Omg are you excited for Friday?!” she asked.

“God Alice, are you always this perky first thing in the morning?” I asked completely ignoring her question and earning a few laughs from the gang.

She just rolled her eyes, “ha-ha. But seriously we have to come up with a game plan for Saturday! There are so many shops and so little time!”

“Just tell me when and where and I’ll be there. But I’ll let you handle all the details.” She just rolled her eyes and laughed as she skipped off with Jasper trailing right behind her. God that boy would travel to the end of the world and back for her.

With that, I took off for her first period, English. I went and sat at my regular seat in the back. Most of the period was spent studying the relevance of Shakespear in modern day time. But I kept get the strangest feeling that someone was watching me. Sometimes I would glance up and catch Mike Newton ogling me. At the end of the class I quickly grabbed my things and was in a rush to get out of here, but as I was entering the hall, mike caught up with me and snatched my books straight out of my hands.

“Here Isabella, why don't you let me carry those for you babe.” He said. I, not being one for confrontation, just decided it would just be easier to agree.

“Thanks Mike, but call me Bella, okay? And honestly, I don't mind carrying my own books.” I said as I made a move to regain my lost books.

“Don’t worry I don't mind.” He said as he completely ignored me and pulled my books further away so that they were even more out of my reach.

“So I was thinking Isabella, You, Me, A romantic dinner for two tonight... what do you say?” he asked as he wrapped his arm that wasn’t holding my books around my midriff. Ugh!

“Mike, that’s really sweet of you for asking but I'm not really looking for a relationship right now...” I said, purposely letting my voice trail off hoping he’d catch the hint of me trying to be subtle in my attempt of not hurting his feelings.

“It doesn’t have to be anything serious, we can keep things casual.” He smirked.

“Mike, I honestly have enough going on in my life right now, I don't think I could manage a relationship on top of everything else.” I said totally exasperated at how dense this guy was.

The short walk to Spanish went by agonizingly slow, I don't know what it was about this boy, but he most definitely could not take a hint. When I got to class I finally got the answer to my prayers. In the back of the room, sitting by herself, was Rosalie. I didn't realize she was in this class, I guess I hadn’t noticed her yesterday. I quickly snatched my books from Newton, and made a run for Rosalie.

“Omg Rose, I don't think I’ve ever been happier to see someone in my life!” I exclaimed as I sat myself down next to her.

She just laughed; “Rough morning?” she asked.

I just let out sigh. “It’s that Newton kid,” I said shooting an angry glare at him. “That boy just can’t take a hint. Subtleness is not his forte.”

She just looked at me and broke out into hysterics. The class went by slow. At the end of the class, Rose and I had our things together and were exiting into the hallway when Newton made a b-line for us. Luckily for me he was intercepted by a girl that I recognised from my gym class yesterday, she just sauntered over to him and smiled.

“Hey there, handsome. Do you have any plans tonight?” she asked trying to sound all flirtatious.

“Yeah Jess, I do! With the exquisite girl right over there! Her name’s Isabella and we’re going out tonight and tomorrow!” Mike bragged.

I was horrified! He was so not my boyfriend and I was not going out with him! I was just about to walk over to him and end this torment for good when my newest blond goddess of a best friend beat me to the punch.

“Like Hell she is!” she yelled. Everyone in the hallway had now turned in our direction and were now gathering around us and observing with interest. I could honestly say I was dumbfounded. I would have never expected Rosalie Hale to step up for me. Man did I owe her one.

“As a matter of fact, Isabella and I are the it new couple. Isn’t that right Isabella?” he said smirking at me. Okay, now I was really starting to get pissed-off. What the hell is wrong with this guy?!

“Like she said, the hell I am!” I shouted. “And My name is Bella, B-E-L-L-A! And how in your warmed mind would you think that I would EVER go out with you?” By this time word had spread through the small school, and now a rather large group of bystanders were witnessing my humiliation. If only someone would kill me now.

“Look at me...” he said with a cheeky grin while pointing at himself, “who wouldn’t?” By this time Rose was just fuming, you could literally see the rage building up inside of her. “Plus, your already falling for me” he smirked with a laugh. He was probably remembering the embarrassing run-in’s from yesterday.

Totally exasperated, I took a deep breath. “Mike...” I started. “I'm really sorry about running into you yesterday, but don't misinterpret my clumsiness as some sort of infatuation.”

“Come on Isabella, give us a chance. You don't know what you’re missing.” He said. He was obviously enjoying the attention he was getting from the crowd. What was with this guy and his giant ego? I was about to reply but Rosalie beat me to it.

“You self-centered, arrogant, prick!” she screamed as she stepped forward and slapped him across the face. “Listen closely! First of all she said her name is BELLA, not Isabella, why don't you shut up for a second and actually listen to her. Secondly, who Bella dates is her business and you will stay the hell out of it.” She was practically seething. Man this girl was tough; you could already see a bruise forming on Mike’s face where she hit him. With that she grabbed my hand and pulled me away from the drama.

As soon as we were out of eyesight I quickly pulled her into a hug. “Omg Rose, Your absolutely amazing thank you.”

“Ha-ha no problem, that jack-ass had it coming. Nobody messes with my new sister.” She laughed as she leaned down and ruffled my hair.

Rose and I separated as I made my way to my history class. I was actually looking forward to the break from Mike and all the drama. History was actually a lot of fun. Jasper ended up transferring into my History class, so the entire hour was spent with Jasper and I laughing about how little-informed our teacher was about the French revolution. History finished, and Trigonometry passed by in a blur and before I knew Alice and I were making our way to lunch to meet up with the gang.

As we entered the cafeteria, everyone was staring and whispering back in forth to each other. Most likely talking about the latest drama that took place between Mike and I. I just ignored them while Alice and I got in line to get our food. I decided just to get lemonade and a salad. I was still fighting back nerves and I wasn’t really feeling a hundred percent.

Alice led me over to the table and I said a quick hello to Jasper and Rose, Emmett hadn’t gotten there yet. Alice immediately went over and sat on Jasper’s lap, they were making quiet conversation between themselves. I must admit they really are a cute couple. I sat down next to Rosalie and we started talking about a project we had due for Spanish in a couple weeks.

All of a sudden Emmett’s voice startled me as it boomed throughout the cafeteria.

“Listen here Newton,” he said through gritted teeth and he raised the boy off the floor by his shirt collar. “You stay the hell away from her or the next time it’ll be more than a black eye.” And then to prove a point he raised a fist and punched him square in the left eye. I think my jaw hit the floor. Somehow Emmett had found out about what took place this morning, and boy was he mad. I wasn’t exactly sure how he found out, but I wouldn’t have put it past Rosalie to tell him. Although I guess in a school this size, any number of students could have told them, seeing as how gossip is the only means of entertainment around here.

Emmett dropped Mike and then made his way over towards us. “I don't think you’ll have any problem with him anymore Bells.” I just looked at him, stunned; did he just beat up a guy for me? I must admit I was a little peeved.

“Omg Em, what the hell was that?” I demanded.

“Calm down Bells, that ass was talking smack about you and I just wanted to remind him of his manners, that’s all.” He just spoke as if it were nothing.

“Calm down?! Em you could have gotten yourself expelled for no reason at all!”

“Bells, your one of us now, he messes with one, he deals with all of us.” He said sweetly as he grabbed me in a giant brotherly-type bear hug. Rose squeezed my hand as she and Alice gave me reassuringly looks. Then Jasper chirped in.

“Damn straight Bells, we look after the ones we love, and your practically already part of the family.” He said as he patted me on the shoulder and then grabbed Alice in a hug around her waist.

I was completely caught off guard. Of all the places I’ve ever lived, I had never had people care so much about me. My eyes started to get watery but I held back the tears. I was determined to make it through one day with no tears. Plus these guys probably think I'm emotionally crazy, with the amount of crying I did yesterday.

“Thank you guys; you don't know how much that really means to me.” I said while quickly recomposing myself.

The rest of the lunch was spent chatting about random things. I really loved just being able to escape all my worries and act like a normal teenager for once. The rest of the day seemed to pass by in a blur. Emmett and I basically just hung out during biology, while we worked on a lab project about ecosystems. Gym actually wasn’t so brutal today, we continued to work on badminton drills, and I only managed to trip once while running over to retrieve a lost birdie.

Mike stayed clear of me the rest of the day. I guess after dealing with both Rose and Emmett, he finally got it through his thick head that him and I would never be.

When the day was over I said good bye to the guys. And gave each of them a hug. Forks was most-definitely turning me into a sap, but I could deal with that as long as I had friends like these.

After goodbyes and I excited the parking lot, I made my way over to the local store for groceries. They didn't really have a huge verity in different food. I picked up enough food to last me a couple weeks. I also decided to pick up a few cleaning supplies. I was determined to keep the house looking its best no matter what, so that when my dad or brothers got back, it would be cleaned and ready to welcome them.

I spent the rest of the night catching up on curriculum and cleaning down stairs. Before I knew it was 10pm, and I was so tired that I dragged myself to my king-size bed and just fell asleep in my sweats.

That night I dreamt of what it would be like when my soldiers returned home to me.
