Nightshade - Waking Nightmare

Chapter Thirteen/ Forty-One is out.

A new score of vampires threatens life as Bella knows it. Responsible for gruesome murders and missing children, they are now roaming the northwest portion of the United States. The decision had come, to change Bella or not to change Bella? Either way, the small Cullen family does not seem to have a chance at protecting Forks with Emma on the fritz, even if they have help from your friendly neighborhood werewolvesr;  All of this belongs to Stephenie Meyer. I am just playing with it. Incase you have not figured it out yet, this is the sequel to Nightshade.

Everything is ready for Bella to be changed into a vampire. She has made all of her cuts from society and has begun to emotinally withdrawl from her familiy. Then, as the Cullen family hunts one last time before the fateful day, a friend from Bella's past shows up. To her, Bella is Izzie and Izzie is the only one that can help her.

All of this belongs to the beautiful Stephanie Meyer. She made up Twilight. We all her a debt of gratitude. Yea!

Be happy that I don't own this. Or sad. If I did, Bella would already be a vampire. But, she's not. Darn.

Chapter Twenty-Two - Hate This Place

“Well, well well. What do we have here?” the same entrancing voice asked. “It seems to be the entire Cullen coven. How convenient,”

“Andromeda,” I heard Carlisle’s voice spat.

“My dear Carlisle, it has been far too long a separation. How long has it been? A hundred and seventy-seven years? My my. I am astounded to see that our love has not diminished in the slightest.”

“You mean your obsession!” Esme screamed.

I could not picture Esme being angry. But,the tone in her voice reassured me that she was. I was glad. Andromeda had no doubt told her their story, most likely twisting the details to show Esme how abstract and deep Carlisle’s love for Andromeda was.

“Tsk. Tsk. You should really watch your tongue, pretty little Esme. It might cause you harm one day.” Andromeda chided Esme the way a mother would reprimand her child.

“Whore!” Esme spat.

I jumped on Emma’s back. That kind of language was so out of character for Esme. She was infuriated.

I heard the slapping of hard diamond against just as hard diamond. Carlisle let a large growl escape from his very soul.

“Tell your goons to release me and I will do more than hurt your pathetic pride!” Esme shouted back.

“My goons?” Andromeda laughed loudly, “These are not my goons, dear, sweet, so beautiful, so unaware Esme. This is my clan, my coven. The Coven Nightshade. One of the most powerful covens there is, darling naive Esme. Your pathetic children are no match for my brothers!”

“And sister!” a child’s voice piped up.

I could feel the annoyance come off of Andromeda, “Yes, Nicole. Sister too,”

“Good. What shall we do with these?” I heard Jasper grunt. The pit of my stomach sank as I realized that they had all of the vampires.

“We are going to destroy Carlisle’s life, sweetie,” Andromeda said chipperly, “It is so simple. We will kill each of his children before we kill Esme.”

“What about him?” Nicole asked.

“Didn’t you pay attention? Once his family is dead, he will join our coven.”

“No!” Alice hissed, this time.

Edward drew in a sharp breath. Crap. Alice had had a vision. It could not have been good.

“Who shall we start with?”

Two cold hands grabbed me. Without thinking in my split-second reaction, I let out a loud squeak. Emma started to say something when one of the hands grabbed her. She let out a more profane word, which, despite our increasingly dismal circumstances, I felt the sudden, overwhelming urge to giggle. I pressed my lips tightly together, pressing them against one another so hard that it was painful. That did little to help silence the laugh that was rising in the back of my throat.

“Two more of the coven, I see. How Carlisle’s reach has grown,” a raspy voice wheezed.

I was forced to come down off of Emma’s back. I tried to turn to see who was holding us, but his iron grip was too strong for me. The door swung open and we marched into the room.

It was long and brightly lit by artificial lights that gave off an ugly yellow cast. Inside the room were six vampires that I did not know. Two stood behind the Cullens, all looked at us incredulously. The six vampires looked the most like vampires that I had seen.

One was just as tall as Alice with golden ringlets piled on the back of her head in a mid seventeen hundreds style. She had blood red eyes but gave us a warm smile and a polite nod. She stood next to a tall boy with dark brown hair tinted with black. His eyes were a coal color, and his lips were twisted in a sneer. He was the only vampire that I had seen with piercings, save the girls for earrings. He had a silver hoop on the left part of his lower lip.

Beside them was a man of middle height. He had shaggy carmel hair and the same blood red eyes of them all. He gave off an imposing, almost over confident air. I knew some how that he was the leader, Ewan. Ewan stood a few paces behind a raven haired woman. She was the one who had been speaking. Andromeda. She was surprisingly attractive, even for a vampire. She was no where near the Denali sister, Rosalie or Emma, but she was a pretty sight. Her raven hair fell down her back to the top of her butt. She had a semetrical face, with full pink lips and a cute button nose. If she had not struck fear into my heart upon first sight, I would have been polite enough to call her beautiful.

The two behind the Cullens were twins. They had ugly pale brown hair and were some of the more heavy set vampires that I had never seen. I had thought that the transformation made you look attractive to your prey, to us humans. I shuddered at the thought of how ugly they had been as humans for this to be a significant improvement.

Edward was shaking when our eyes met. I saw anger, confusion and fear as well as love cross his bright golden eyes. That golden color was such a relief after seeing all of the red. I mouthed I love you to him, wishing then that he could hear my thoughts. He gave me a grim but infuriated smile and mouthed the words back. My heart swelled with joy and beat furiously against my rib cage. Even I were to die right now, I would die knowing that Edward loved me.

“Two more?” Andromeda asked with surprise.

The vampire behind us nodded. “Found them lurking behind the western door.”

Ewan nodded. “I did not realize that they would be bringing a human along with them. They are foolish.”

Edward snarled and pulled against the really really thick chains that I then saw. “Don’t you dare touch her!”

Ewan walked away from the rest of his coven. He trailed an icy finger done by cheek. I shuddered at his contact, and tried to pull away. The vampire behind me tightened his grip. Ewan sinisterly gave me what he thought would be comforting grin. My heart stopped beating as I remember that that was what Aro had tried to do when he wanted to read my thoughts. Ewan did not seem to be bothered by my revulsion. His fingers continued the length of my face and down my neck.

His cold touch stopped on my furious pulse. He slowly leaned foreword and inhaled deeply; his nose at the base of my throat.

“You do smell amazing,” he whispered to me.

His shaggy hair was ruffling my nose. I accidentally sneeze. My very human reaction startled him and he pulled up.

“We will start with the human first. Leo, take the other girl to her family. Andromeda?”

Andromeda stepped foreword, smiling with malice. No one was holding me, but I found myself unable to run. My breathing grew ragged as all I could think about was the coming pain. I had been bitten once before by James. I could still remember the fire that had coursed through my hand. But as this woman full of hate advanced, I knew that being drained alive was going to be even more painful.

“Hello, my pet.” she grinned at me. “Do not worry, this won’t hurt one little bit.”

“Liar,” I spat.

Somehow, I found my resolve. I looked at Edward. He was struggling to break out of his bonds. He could not save me. Not this time, I realized with a start. If I wanted to get every one that I loved out, it was going to be up to me for once. I snuck a glance at Emma. She was getting ready to be shackled. She met my gaze and gave me a nod. At least, I was going to have some one to help me.

Picking up my feet, I turned and ran as fast as I could to my angel. Edward’s eyes opened in alarm. I saw Emma take down Leo and throw him hard against a wall from the corner of my eye. Andromeda screamed in frustrated surprise. Praying that it worked, I pulled a hair pin out of my hair that kept my bangs back and thrust it into Edward’s lock. I had only seen this work in the movies. I doubted that it would in real life, but it was the only idea that I had.

Thankfully, the lock clicked open. Before Edward could shrug them off, a cold hand picked me up by the throat. I looked into Ewan’s cold red eyes. THUD! Emma’s body slammed hard against him. Both he and Emma went flying into the other Nightshade coven. Edward pulled me up and kissed me. Normally, I would have enjoyed his intensity. But today, I was on a mission. I pulled back with a smile.

“Go help Emma.” I ordered and dashed off to open Rosalie’s locks next.

Edward was torn for a moment. Seeing my resolve, he nodded and darted out into the foray. Emma had her hands full. She had scratched Ewan up ferociously and was currently pounding Andromeda’s head into the floor, giving her the Vicky treatment. That did not work because there were six of them versus the one of her. Andromeda, the two twins and Nicole all grabbed one of her limbs and pulled. I heard a ripping sound and Emma’s earth shattering screams. Edward’s roar followed seconds later by Emmett and Japser's. Rosalie had taken the make shift pick from my shaking hands and steadily opened Emmett and Jasper’s cuffs in seconds. They jumped into the fight to help their family while Rosalie moved on.

The four vampires dropped a broken Emma and turned on their new opponents. A long stream of fire shot out from Ewan’s fingers. I ducked down as they shot over my head. As soon as she was free, Alice leapt into the battle. She cornered Andromeda and pummeled her attractive face with her bare hands. I watched with grotesque fascination as she punched and pulled before finally having enough. Andromeda fell to her knees. Alice grabbed her neck and a fist full of her hair. With all of her might, she pulled until the nauseating sound of ripping flesh filled the clattering air and Andromeda was no more.

Carlisle and Jasper proceeded to fight the twins. The twins stood little chance against either one of them. One twin looked at his brother and, in a self-sacrificing moment that touched my heart, threw himself at the both Carlisle and Jasper, giving his brother a chance to escape.

I noticed one vampire, the one with a lip ring, not fighting. He stood in the shadows, his face morphed in horror as he looked at Emma’s pale, broken body. It looked like it actually hurt him to see her that way. Some how, like I had known with Ewan, I knew that that was Callen. I just knew it.

Nicole screamed and grabbed Ewan’s hand. Those two and the along with one of the twins and the one who never lifted a finger to fight, the one who I assumed to be Callen, took one last look at the carnage and ran out the window into the fading sun light.

Emmett leaned down and picked up Emma. My family took the matches and set the vampire pieces on fire. After the remains had finished burning, they set them alight one more time before calling it a night.

“Are you all right?” Carlisle asked, holding Esme tightly against his chest.

“Carlisle!” she sobbed, “All those things, those things she said,”

“They weren’t true. I promise. They were all lies,” he whispered soothingly in to her ear.

“I know that they were. It hurt to hear all the filth she spewed about you.” Esme cried.

“It is okay. She’s gone now. She is never coming back. Everything is going to all right,” Carlisle whispered. He picked up his shaking wife and carried her back to the Mercedes.

Up in heaven, we had an angel watching over us. It was a dark, cloudy day without any traffic. Carlisle took a few brief minutes away from Esme, who hovered by his side, to take a look at every body. Edward and I were both physically fine. Emmett had a deep gash that ran the length of his chest. Carlisle had to bandage that. It should have healed by the end of the month, which was just fifteen days away. Carlisle injuries were much more substantial. It would take him just a little over a month to be back at one hundred. Rosalie had a minuet scratch on the bridge of her nose. Jasper hovered over Alice who had no more skin on her left arm. Carlisle said that it would all come back by the time that he was better. Jasper was fine. He had taken on Nicole’s mate, who could do absolutely no damage. Esme’s face was still a bright red from where Andromeda had hit her so hard. The red was quickly fading. She was scratched up pretty bad; she had given much more of a fight originally than Andromeda had expected.

Emma was seriously injured. Her thoughts were not coherent or random, they were just blank. Her eyes took on a glazed over look. Her joints and sockets had been pulled out of place from where they tried to rip her into quarters. Her entire torso was scratched and bruised and the skin had been pulled apart around her arms and legs. I did not know that it was even possible for a vampire to bruise. Carlisle said that once all of her human blood was gone, it would be impossible. We had to wrap an unconscious Emma’s entire body in thick bandages. Carlisle did not know when or even if she would be fully healed. All he could say was that it was miraculous that she had single handedly taken on six vampires and would be able to tell the tale.

I was not so sure. Her head lay in my lap as Edward drove us in his Volvo back to Forks. We called Charlie and told him to have my room ready. Emma was going to need some serious help.
