Nightshade - Waking Nightmare

Chapter Thirteen/ Forty-One is out.

A new score of vampires threatens life as Bella knows it. Responsible for gruesome murders and missing children, they are now roaming the northwest portion of the United States. The decision had come, to change Bella or not to change Bella? Either way, the small Cullen family does not seem to have a chance at protecting Forks with Emma on the fritz, even if they have help from your friendly neighborhood werewolvesr;  All of this belongs to Stephenie Meyer. I am just playing with it. Incase you have not figured it out yet, this is the sequel to Nightshade.

Everything is ready for Bella to be changed into a vampire. She has made all of her cuts from society and has begun to emotinally withdrawl from her familiy. Then, as the Cullen family hunts one last time before the fateful day, a friend from Bella's past shows up. To her, Bella is Izzie and Izzie is the only one that can help her.

All of this belongs to the beautiful Stephanie Meyer. She made up Twilight. We all her a debt of gratitude. Yea!

Be happy that I don't own this. Or sad. If I did, Bella would already be a vampire. But, she's not. Darn.

Chapter Eight - Haunting

The fire that started to fill her body slowly built up. It started as an annoying heat before turning into a painful sensation until it quickly worked its way up to a searing, all consuming inferno. Hell fire, wild fire, uncontrollable, every where at once. She had heard all of these words describe her on going pain. Quickly, she knew that these descriptions were off.

She could feel her blood as it coursed through her broken body. It was like some one replaced her blood with alcohol and lit it on fire. It was incredibly heavy as it trudged through her veins. She could feel it flow within its natural current. It hurt more and more with each passing second, it got more and more heavier. All too soon, it seemed like the entire world was crushing down on her body and at the same time, trying to explode out from within her.

After an endless amount of pain, she heard a new noise that she had never consciously heard before. THUMP! THUMP! THU-THUMP! Her heart! She could hear it beating! As it pumped more of the liquid fire through her, she wished that she had not come upon that realization. Now that she was aware of it, pain echoed through out her with each beat.

“BELLA!” the voice of a siren screamed out at her.

Edward? She thought. She thought, but she could not speak.

“Bella! No!” screamed the angel, the siren, the vampire.

Edward? She tried again.

“Oh Bella!” cried the angel.

It is okay, Edward. If only he could hear her. God in Heaven gave her mercy. She felt something impossibly colder than ice touch her skin. It felt surprisingly good; the intense cold was a welcome relief from the pain that she had felt.

She let out a moan. Her angel gasped. Then Bella Cullen knew what she needed to do. Keeping silent would cause her even more pain. She did not know how she knew that, but somehow, she did. Resolutely, she bit her lips to keep her quiet. Edward picked her up. She pulled closer to his beyond frigid body, relishing in the little relief from her personal hell.

Bella was able to keep up her ploy for the first day. By day two, the pain was unbearable. Edward would never forget her screams. No one in the Cullen house hold could. They had all heard (save Luke) some one being change. Never had they hear such agony as hers.

Day three came and went. She did not wake. As dawn crept over the hills of day four, her eyes suddenly snapped open.

Isabella Cullen sat up and looked around. The room, her room, Edward’s room, suddenly seemed different. It was different. She could see all of the lines in the wooden floors, where the paint had faded slightly from age. The threads in the golden rug, she counted them all quickly, and it was no problem. The thing that had changed the most was Edward’s face.

She could see every shadow on his flawless face. She had thought that she saw him clearly as a human, but now all of the miniscule indentions and firm lines that she could not see where plainly visible. The best part was his eyes. His golden eyes. He love and relief that shown brightly at her. Bella smiled. He had become impossible even more handsome. He smiled her favorite crooked grin. Bella laughed then gasped.

“Did you hear what I sound like?” she gasped at her voice; it resembled at flute being played with a sweet, sorrowful melody. “That is my voice?” It was more of a question than a statement. Her voice. She could not get over it. It was haunting…

Edward laughed. His voice, so velvety smooth, like silk overlapped with petite lace, it was the best sound she had ever hear. So much memorable than hers. Just like his face. It was unforgettable.

She was floored by him. How could she not be?

“Yes, Bella. I can hear you wonderfully.”

“I sound so different,” she whispered. Her voice was still thick with the haunting melody.

“No, dearest. That was always how you sounded.”

“NO!” she gasped, disbelievingly touching her throat.

Edward nodded his head. “It is, Bella.”

Bella. Her name had never sounded so beautiful as when Edward said it. She smiled at him, dazzling him for the first of many times. “You are so beautiful,” she whispered.

Edward chuckled, “I believe that that is my line,”

Bella giggled, “Only if you want it to be,”

Edward smiled at her. Though she was sitting down, Bella felt weak in the knees. He was so perfect!

“I want it to be. That reminds me, you have got to see yourself,” he stood and walked over to her.

“Why?” she cocked her head to the side.

“Because you are impossibly more beautiful.” Edward scooped he up into his arms and started to the bathroom.

“Edward,” she laughed, “I can walk.”

He pouted, “But I want to carry you,”

Bella rolled her eyes as he set her down in front of the mirror. Edward was right. For once, she was beautiful. Her hair had taken on a darker shade, it almost matched Emma’s perfectly. Her face was more heart shaped and she had right crimson lips. Her eyes were a blood red. Without realizing it, she let out a hiss and had started to shake whenever she saw her eyes.

Edward’s strong arms wrapped around her, “What is it?”

“My eyes,” she harshly gasped.

“All newborns are like that. You saw Emma’s,” he reminded.

Bella shook her head. Of course she remembered Emma’s. She just had not expected hers to change. It made sense, now that she thought about it. “You are right. I remember,”

“Are you sure?” he protectively asked.

“I am fine, Edward,” she laughed as she pushed him away. She was so completely different.

“Every one is waiting for you,” he reminded.

Bella blushed the most beautiful vampire blush that Edward had ever seen. Smiling, he took her hand and lead her out of the bathroom and down the stairs. They were all waiting for her. They were smiling and grinning reassuringly at her. Every one had changed so much! Every thing had changed so much! She could now see them all clearly. It was like some one had put a tissue over her eyes for the first eighteen years of her life and it was now gone. The worlds was so much more than she had every expected.

“Bella!” Emma squealed with a high pitched voice.

“Emma!” Bella laughed and hugged her best friend.

“I am so jealous! I mean, you are absolutely gorgeous!” Emma laughed.

“You can say that again,” Alice chimed in and joined the hug, Rosalie behind her.

“Welcome to our family, Bella,” she whispered.

If possible, Bella would have cried. Rosalie no longer hated her. “Thank you,”

“No problem,” Rosalie squeezed her even tighter.

“You do look wonderful,” Esme agreed.

“Thank you, Esme,”

“Congratulations, to the both of you,” Carlisle looked from her to Edward.

The newly weds glowed with happiness. “BELLA!” Emmett screamed as he bent down and swooped her up into a giant hug. What would have crushed her into dust as a human now only hurt a lot.

“Emmett! Put me down!” she laughed as she kicked her feet.

She was so happy from her transformation, pain free, a vampire. It seemed almost like a sin to not laugh.

“Sorry sis,” Emmett said with a wide grin. He sat her back down on the floor. He looked even taller and bigger. She shook her head. Only Emmett.

“We are one big happy family,” Alice declared.

Family. Wedding. Humans. Charlie.

“What happened?” she gasped as memories came flooding back.

The vampires exchanged glances. “We don’t really know.” Luke answered, uncertainly, when no one else answered. Luke. She had forgotten about him. He had had to be extra careful at the wedding. So careful that he was far away from her and her human friends for most of it.

“Charlie?” she whispered, fear gnawing at her heart.

“Bella. I am sorry. We wanted to tell you at a better time, but… he is dead. They are all dead. All of the humans who were there died, except for you.” Carlisle said solemnly.

Bella dropped to the floor. Angela. Mike. Jessica. Tyler. Charlie. THey were all dead. Because of her… they had died. How? They did not know. Vampires, obviously. She remembered that much. Bella thought back to the wedding. THere were two clans of vampires then. Two very large clans present. How had no one realized the danger? Why did Alice not see it? Why did it not hurt as much as it should have?

Deep down, she knew. Her memories were already fading. She could barely remember what Mike or Jessica looked like. SHe could not remember Charlie’s voice. She could not remember. She remembered when Luke had told her Emma’s theory. Yes. It was easier to face eternity not remembering who had to be left behind. Their memories would only be a haunting reminder. She did not need to be haunted. Not now. Not ever.
