Wrong Guy

“Are you ready to go?” Charlie asked as he stood in the driveway with

Alice and Bella.

“Yes and before you ask, we have everything. I’ve already doubled

checked it three times. We have everything we could ever need, want, or

desire and even more. My entire life is in the back of that car and Alice’s

entire life, trust me.” Bella said, setting her purse in the back seat.

“Okay, I can’t believe your really leaving me what am I suppose to do in

this house all alone now?” He asked.

“I don’t know, get a dog. Maybe go on a date or two.” She smiled.

“Maybe.” He laughed, “Okay I know you’re going to be a big college kid

now, but don’t forget about me back home. You know, call me every so

often, let me know you’re still alive. Maybe even come and visit every so

often so I don’t forget what you look like.” He said.

“Don’t worry I will call and come home and visit. Maybe even call to let

you know I’m coming home to visit.” She laughed.

“Well, I should probably let you two head out so you can get up there

before the traffic starts.”

“Dad it’s Washington, there’s never traffic.” She said, “But still we should

go. I’ll call you when I get up there. I love you.” She hugged him.

“I love you too.” He kissed the top of her head, “You too, Alice.” He

hugged her as well. The two girls climbed into the car and put on their seat

belts. They waved as Bella backed her truck out of the driveway and took

off down the street.

“We’re finally free.” Alice said.

“It’s not as rewarding as I thought it would be.” Bella said laughing.

“I was just thinking the same thing, maybe it’ll feel different once we’re

all moved in up at UW. Then it will feel like we actually live there.” She

laughed.

“Speaking of which, do you think we’ll be able to get some of those hot

strong boys to help me carry everything into the apartment for us. I don’t

feel like carrying everything and you can’t in your condition.”

“I can help a little.”

“You are just going to sit on your butt and dictate where I put stuff you

won’t actually do anything.” She said.

“Will not.” She said, “Why can’t James help us?”

“I don’t know he told me he wasn’t coming up until Monday morning but

he never told me why.” She said.

“Weird, so how long is it going to take us to get there?” Alice asked

adjusting the radio to a station that wasn’t on a commercial.

Baby it’s just you and me, we’ve got a thing they can’t shake. Maybe it’s

a little hard sometimes to take, but I’ll tell you something, it’s a life worth

living. Just so you know I wouldn’t give it up-

“Speaking of the devil.” Bella said, looking down at her ringing iPhone,

“Hi baby, what’s up?”

“Nothing I’m just getting up. Are you and Alice already up at UW?”

“No but we’re on our way we left a few minutes ago. Wait, you’re just

waking up? It’s two o’clock in the afternoon.”

“I know I just woke up late. I slept for like fourteen hours.”

“Strange. So why weren’t you coming up with us today?”

“I still had some errands to run before I come up there. Last minute

stuff I had to buy and do. I have some lose ends to tie up before the

senior year. Plus, my mom asked Mike and I would stay through the

weekend, she’s a little emotional about being an empty nester. She

wanted to spend a little more time with her boys before we took off.” He

said.

“Oh that makes sense. My dad was a little sad when Alice and I took

off. He felt like he was losing me a little bit. He doesn’t realize that I’ll

always come back.” She said.

“Yeah.”

“We were hoping you’d be up there to help us unpack.” She said.

“Didn’t the movers already bring in all the furniture?” He questioned.

“Yeah, but we still have to get everything else in.”

“Just don’t let Alice move anything heavy in.”

“I won’t don’t worry.” She said, “Anyway baby I’m about to get on the

highway and my blue tooth is dead in my purse so I need to let you go

before I get a ticket for talking on my phone, okay?”

“Okay, be careful. I’ll see you on Monday.” He said.

“Bye.”

“Bye. She hung up the phone and set it back into the cup holder as she

merged into the freeway.

“So why is he staying back?”

“He had some last minute errands to run. Plus his mother begged him

and Mike to stay home for their last weekend. She was upset about losing

her boys.” She said.

“I wish my parents were upset about losing me.”

“They are, they’re just being stubborn about it.” Bella said setting her

hand on top of Alice’s on the arm rest. It wasn’t too long before Bella pulled

on to the UW campus. She parked in the closest spot to the apartment door

and back into the spot. She popped the hatch and both girls climbed out.

“Now where are all these cute, strong boys that are suppose to help us

move into the apartment?” Bella asked.

“I’m not sure.” Alice said, “Wait there’s Edward.” She said as he climbed

out of his truck and started walking towards them.

“Hey what are you doing here?” Bella asked.

“James called, he said he wasn’t coming up until Monday and he asked if

I would come over and help you move in.” Edward said.

“That was sweet of him.” Alice said.

“Okay you go open the apartment and sit down.” Bella said handing Alice

the card-key, “Edward, let’s start getting everything moved in.” Alice headed

into the apartment and sat down on the couch to rest. Edward and Bella

each picked up a few boxes and started bringing them in.

After all the boxes and suitcases were in the apartment, the three of

them started unpacking and moving everything into place.

“This place doesn’t seem nearly as big as it did before now that all the

stuff is in.” Alice said sitting down on the couch.

“I know, I feel kind of cheated. I bragged to everyone about how big our

apartment is and now I feel like everyone is going to come over and see

and think I’m crazy.” Bella said sitting down next to her.

“It’s okay they always seem smaller once you get the stuff in. Everyone

will understand.” Edward said.

“I’m starving.” Bella said.

“So am I.” Alice added.

“You’re always hungry.” Edward said.

“Let’s go get something to eat. We’re all moved in we need to celebrate

somehow.” Bella said.

“I’m in.” Edward said.

“You coming Alice?” Bella asked.

“Of course.” The three of them walked out of the apartment and climbed

into Bella’s truck. They drove to a little diner just off campus.

“I talked to Jacob, he thinks Kylie is cheating on him.” Edward said.

“Yeah he told me that too. I asked him if he had any idea who with he

didn’t know but he said he’d tell me if he figured it out.” Bella said, “I feel

so bad for him, Jacob is such a good guy he doesn’t deserve that.”

“I know he is a nice guy.” Alice said, “Who could Kylie be cheating him on

with?”

“I don’t know. It has to be one of the other seniors. It can’t be anyone

we know.” Bella said.

“I don’t know.” Edward said, “So I thought Mike was staying home this

year. Why is his mom freaking out about him leaving?” He asked.

“No, he and Jessica got an apartment together between their two

schools.”

“Man I really need to check my voicemail, anything else going on that I

missed?” Edward asked.

“Rose and Emmett moved in together.” Alice said, “Their apartment is

really cute, Rose sent me some pictures of it. It’s really nice actually.”

“Yeah I didn’t know that one either, Edward. Don’t worry, I’m just as out

of the loop after.” Bella said.

All I want to do is find my way back into love. I can’t make it through

without a way back into love. And if-

“Oh my gosh.” Alice said looking down at her cell phone.

“Who is it, Alice?” Bella asked.

“It’s a text from Rose. Kylie is pregnant.” Alice said.

“Really? How is that even possible?” Edward asked.

“I guess she wasn’t being careful.” Alice said.

“Wait, if Kylie is sleeping with someone other then Jacob, then is the

baby his?” Bella asked.

“It might not be.” Alice said.

“Poor Jacob, this has to be horrible for him.” Bella said

“How could this happen Kylie? How could you let this happen?” James

asked as he sat in the car with Kylie.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t want it to happen, the condom must have broken I’m

sorry.” She said balling her eyes out.

“Don’t cry. So whose baby is it?” He asked.

“It could be yours, Mike’s, or Jacob’s.” She said.

“Just say that it’s Jacob’s then all this will go away.” James said.

“I can’t do that. I’m not a genetics genius but I know enough to know

that Jacob is Native American and if the baby is his it will look like him. You

and Mike are obviously not Native American. If one of you is the father, it

will be very apparent, you can‘t fake ethnicity.” She said.

“Okay, just leave Mike out of this we’re not involving him at all. If the

baby is his we are going to lie and say that it’s mine. I’m not going to ruin

my little brothers life.” He said.

“I scheduled a DNA test for tomorrow but we won‘t get the results back for

a few weeks. We’ll know after that.” She said as he started driving through

her subdivision.

“Okay well we’re not going to say anything until then, okay?”

“Okay.” He pulled up in front of her house and dropped her off before

quickly pulling away so no one saw him with her. James pulled back into his

driveway and settled into his bedroom to process.

“What are we going to do?” Mike asked, bursting into James’ room, “I

just got a text, Kylie is pregnant.”

“I know. Don’t worry I’ve already talked to her, that’s where I was before

this.” He said.

“I can’t not worry about it. She’s pregnant.”

“Yes, she is, but you have nothing to worry about. She said you two

always used condoms when you had sex. Jacob and I have both slipped up

and slept with her without a condom. The baby is either mine or his. You

have nothing to worry about. She is getting a DNA test done tomorrow, but

we won’t have the results for a few weeks. You have nothing to worry

about.” James said, “Just keep your mouth shut until we have the tests

back. Hopefully it will come back Jacob’s and we’ll never have to address

any of this.”

“So what are you going to do?” Mike asked.

“I’m praying it isn’t mine, but if it is I’m going to step up and deal with

it. I’ll raise the baby if it’s mine.”

“It’s getting late we should probably head back. It’s getting kind of late.”

Bella said, helping Alice out of the booth, “We have to get baby home to

bed.” She smiled.

“I can’t wait to get into my bed.” Alice said.

“Me too.” Alice added, “I just hate how uncomfortable I am in every

position.” They climbed into the car and drove back to the apartment

complex. They all got out of the car and started walking in separate

directions.

“Someone slashed my tires.” Edward said.

“What?” Bella asked rushing over to look.

“I can’t believe this.” Edward said

“Do you have a spare?” Alice asked.

“Yeah but I only have one. Whoever did it got all of them.” He said,

“Why would someone do this?”

“I don’t know. We can drive you back the dorm tonight, Edward. You can

call a tow truck in the morning.” Bella said.

“Thanks, but I was suppose to head back to Forks tonight. My parents

are in Rome and their housekeeper wasn’t coming back to work until Monday

morning. I was suppose to be house sitting this weekend.” Edward said.

“I can drive you back to Forks. It’s night, there won’t be any traffic, we

can make it back in a half hour.” Bella said.

“Are you sure?” Edward asked.

“Yeah, I don’t have anything better to do. We can call the tow truck and

get everything sorted out in the morning.” Bella said, walking back towards

her car, “Are you coming, Alice?”

“Yeah.” They all climbed back into the car and started driving back to

Forks. Bella pulled into her driveway.

“Do you want to just stay the night in Forks, Allie? I don’t really feel like

driving back to UW tonight.” Bella asked as she pulled into the driveway.

“Yeah I just want to go to bed.” Alice said. “We’ll see you in the morning

Edward.”

“Okay. Thanks for driving me back.” Edward said before walking towards

his house.

“Now when I asked you to come back and visit. I didn’t mean ten hours

after you left.” Charlie said standing on the deck of the house.

“I know. Someone slashed Edward’s tires up at UW. He’s house sitting

for his parents so he needed to come back here. We offered to drive him

and I don’t feel like driving back to school tonight. Alice and I are just going

to sleep in the guest house and drive back to school in the morning.” Bella

said, locking her car.

“Okay, I’ll see you girls in the morning get some sleep.” He said,

hugging Bella. The two girls walked the path back to the guest house and

set their stuff down. Their was a knock on the door.

“Who is it?” Bella asked.

“It’s Edward.” He said as she opened the door, “I left the keys to my

parents house in my apartment. I tried to get in another way but they have

the place locked up tight. Can I stay here tonight?”

“Yeah. The couch is all yours.” Bella said, taking a pillow and a blanket

out of the linen closet and setting them on the couch for him, “We’ll see you

in the morning.” she and Alice walked into the bedroom and got into bed.

They were both exhausted and fell asleep quickly.

At 3:07, Alice was awoken with a sharp pain in her lower back. She

climbed out of bed and paced the bedroom, but the pains didn’t subside like

it normally did. She quickly began to feel she might be in labor. She

counted minutes between the pains and realized they were consistent.

“Bella wake up.” She said.

“What’s wrong?” She asked groggily.

“I’m in labor.” She said, sitting down on the edge of the bed holding her

stomach, “I’m having consistent, rhythmic, pains. The baby is coming.”

“Oh my gosh. It’s really time?” Bella questioned jumping out of bed and

pulling her clothes on, “Edward!” She yelled as she pulled her car keys out.

“What?” He asked walking into the bedroom in his boxers.

“Alice is in labor. Go get my dad and start the car.” She said throwing the

keys at him as she helped Alice get dressed. Edward pulled his clothes on

and ran to the main house to get Bella’s father before they started the car.

Bella helped Alice out to the car. Edward backed out of the driveway and

sped off towards the hospital.

“How are you doing, Alice?” He asked.

“Just drive!” She yelled and she squeezed Bella’s hand in the back seat.

He turned into the hospital and parked as the four of them helped Alice into

the hospital. They walked to the Harris Birthing Wing and up to the

receptionist.

“Can I help you?” She asked.

“We need to check in Alice Cullen. She’s in labor.” Bella said.

“Okay an orderly will take you to the room, and you need to fill out this

paperwork.” She handed her the clipboard and an orderly came with a

wheelchair for Alice.

“I’ll get the paper work. You go with Alice.” Charlie said, taking the

clipboard from her. Bella and Edward followed Alice down the hallway to a

room.

“We need to get her changed and all hooked up. If you could wait in the

hallway.” A nurse said to Edward and Bella. They listened, stepping outside

the room.

“Is she going to be okay? She’s so early I’m worried.” Bella said.

“Babies come early all the time and live perfectly normal well adjusted

lives.” Edward said

“But three weeks early. Is she going to be okay?” Bella asked.

“Babies come as early as three months and have limited complications.

They grow up to be healthy. Three weeks is nothing. She’s going to be

fine.” Edward said hugging her, “Don’t worry, she’s strong and we know that

baby is a fighter. Everything is going to be okay.”

“Okay, she’s all ready. You two can come in now.” The nurse said, “The

doctor should be in soon.” She walked away and Bella and Edward walked

back into the room.

“How are you holding up, Alice?” Edward asked as he and Bella both took

a side of the bed.

“I’m okay. It hurts though I want some drugs.” She said, squeezing both

of their hands when a contraction came, “Did you call everyone?” .

“Yeah, everyone is on their way. We couldn’t get a hold of Mike, James,

or Kylie. Jacob said he was going to swing by and get Kylie if she was

home. Jessica said she was going to keep trying to get a hold of Mike and

James.” Bella said.

“What about the grandparents?” Alice asked.

“Jasper’s parents are on their way, Your parents are trying to get a flight

back to the states, they’ll be here as soon as they can.”

“Okay good.”

“Good morning Alice.” The doctor said when he walked in, “I’m just going

t check to see how far along you are progressing.”

“Okay.” She said, as he sat down in front of her to check her cervix.

“You are about nine centimeters dilated and a hundred percent effaced.

You’re going to need to start pushing.” He said.

“I need the drugs first.” Alice said, squeezing the sides of the bed.

“I’m sorry, you are too far along to take a drug,”

“No I need the drugs. It’s part of my birth plan. We had all this planned

out, exactly how the labor was going to go and the drugs were a vital part of

me birth plan. I can feel everything and I can’t do this if I can feel

everything.” Alice said freaking out.

“I’m sorry Alice. You’re too far along. The drugs would be useless, even

dangerous to the baby at this point.” The doctor said, “We’re going to need

to start pushing, your son is ready to come out.”

“No I can’t, not everyone is here yet. My parents and Jasper’s parents.”

“We have to.”

“No we can’t, we need to wait.”

“It is detrimental that-”

“Not yet.”

“Alice, look at me.” Bella said, holding her hand, “I know this isn’t exactly

how you wanted this to go and I know not everyone is here yet, but it’s time.

This little boy is coming whether we’re ready for him or not. So when your

next contraction starts you’re going to squeeze Edward and my hands and

push as hard as you can. Then we can all meet your son.”

“Okay.” She took both of their hands and the doctor monitored the

contraction.

“Okay Alice you need to push for ten seconds, starting now.” He said as

she started pushing.

“You’re doing great Alice.” Bella said as Alice crushed both of their hands.

“Okay Push now.” The doctor said, counting out loud for her, “Okay he’s

crowing. Keep pushing.”

As soon as the baby started crying, Alice let out a huge sigh of relief.

They took the baby and cleaned him off, weighed and fingerprinted him,

before bringing them back to Alice.

“You did amazing, Alice.” Bella said hugging her.

“So do you already have a name picked out?” The nurse asked holding

the birth certificate.

“Jack Jasper Whitlock.” She said looking down at her perfect son.

“And the father’s name.”

“Jasper Lee Whitlock.” Alice said.

“He’s perfect, Alice.” Bella said, “He looks just like Jasper. He’s here, you

know that right?”

“I know, I can feel him.” She said, “Will you take Jack out to meet

everyone, Bells?”

“Of course.” She took the baby as Alice handed him to her. She cuddled

him up her and walked out of the hospital room into the waiting room.

Everyone stood up as she entered the room with the baby, “I’d like you all

to meet Jack Jasper Whitlock.” She smiled as everyone crowded around her.

“He’s so tiny.” Jessica said.

“And so cute.” Angela added.

“He’s perfect.” Mike said.

“You need to tell her.” Alice said from the hospital bed as Edward stood

near the window watching Bella in the waiting room with the baby.

“What are you talking about?” Edward asked, “Tell what to who?”

“Edward, I have been your best friend for our entire lives. I know you

better then you know yourself. You are head over heels in love with Bella

and you can’t deny it. I can see it in the way you look at her. You need to

say something to her.”

“I lost. She is marrying James in less then six months. He won, he has

her. There’s nothing I can do.”

“No, you have to tell her. No matter what happens. Whether she says

nothing or she tells you she loves you too, if you say nothing and stand idly

by, it will haunt you for the rest of your life. You will always wonder if she’s

happy, if she’s okay, if she always felt the same way. You will never forgive

yourself and I don’t want that to happen to you.”

“I don’t know.”

The next morning, Edward and Bella returned to the hospital to take Alice

and Jack home to UW. Edward stayed in the room to take Alice and Jack

down, while Bella left to bring the car around.

“It’s going to be okay Kylie. The DNA test is over and the doctor said the

baby is healthy.” James said.

“I know, I’m just worried. I’m so glad the baby is okay.” She said setting

her hand over her stomach, “This is all so scary. My parents still don’t

know.”

“Hey what are you two doing here?” Bella asked as she ran into them in

the hallway.

“Neither of us have seen the baby yet. We ran into each other in the

lobby.” Kylie said.

“Oh, she’s in room 3229. Edward is in there with her now, be quick

though we’re taking her home. I’ll see you later today, sweetie.” She

stepped up to kiss James before continuing down the hallway. She walked

into the parking garage and started the car before calling Edward.

“Hey are you ready for us to come down?” Edward asked.

“Yeah, start coming. Are James and Kylie still there?” She asked.

“No they left a few minutes ago.” He said, pushing the wheelchair into the

elevator.

“Oh okay. Do you think she knows that everyone knows she’s pregnant?”

She asked.

“I doubt it unless someone told her. Although the idea is not to upset

the pregnant ones, isn’t it?” He asked.

“Yeah, I wonder if her parents even know.” She said.

“I doubt it. She probably won’t tell them until the last possible second,

until she starts to show at least.” He said, hanging up the phone as he

opened the car door.

“I feel kind of bad for her.” Alice said as she buckled the car seat into the

back, “I mean if we’re talking about her then everyone else is. And she

didn’t ask for any of this, it just happened to her.”

“I don’t know. Any time you have sex your assuming responsibility that a

pregnancy is a possibility.” Edward said.

“I know you two goody-two shoes are both virgins but it isn’t as easy to

prevent as it seems.” Alice said.

“I know, Alice.” Bella said, “He’s so cute though.”

“He may be incredibly cute, but I think you both will get sick of the crying

fairly quickly.” Alice said looking down at Jack.

“I don’t think I could ever get sick of anything my adorable unofficial

nephew.” Bella said, looking into the back seat as they sat at the red light.

“I think we can call it official for both of you. I mean you were there when

he was born.” Alice said.

“Yes we were, you nearly broke my hand.” Edward said.

“Mine too.” Bella said shaking it.

“I’m sorry. It really hurt.” She said, innocently, “Anyway there was

something I wanted to ask both of you.”

“What’s up, Alice?” Bella asked.

“I want you two to be Jack’s god parents.” She said, “If you want of

course.”

“Of course, Alice.” Edward said.

“Yes.” Bella said as her eyes started to well up.

“Oh don’t cry.” Alice said, setting her hand on her shoulder.

“I’m sorry. I would be honored.”
