I was pacing back and forth in my room. I could hear my family discussing downstairs. I couldn’t stand it anymore; I had to talk to somebody. I ran down the hall, and down the stairs.

“I need you guys to listen to me, ok, just for once,” I said as I made my way to the table. I pulled out a chair, and sat down in it.

“What happened today was not my fault; you do remember that, right?” I didn’t even give them time to answer the question.

“That kid was just so quiet and still, curiosity had taken me over. I just had to see what was wrong with him,” I explained as they stared at me in silence. It looked like Alice and my dad were having a “silent” conversation, so I decided to show them myself what had really happened. I put my hand to my Aunt Rosalie’s jaw, and waited for her to see what I was doing.

I hadn’t done this in a long time, so everyone was staring. I transmitted the kid sitting in his desk, face down, hood up, his smell, the seat, everything. When I was done, Rose stared at me in disbelief.

“His hair,” she said stunned, “it looked just like mines…” she trailed off.

“Way to go, Rose,” Jasper started to say, “the first thing you notice is his hair, WOW!” He put his hands up, almost wowing us

“Shush, she’s right,” Alice said with her eyes closed, apparently looking into the future, in defend of Rose’s theory.

“What do you see, Alice?” Dad asked, with a sudden worry.

“I can’t see! This kid has some kind of block on me!”

“Try again.”

I turned to look at Esme, whose face was torn in indecision; I couldn’t really put my finger on it.

“Let me just go check on the kid, and ask Carlisle how he’s holding up, and maybe I can figure out his name as well.”

Everyone stared at each other in confusion, and then Dad was the first one to speak. I could only guess he was reading Esme’s thoughts.

“Yeah, Esme can go and check what’s going on, and she can call if anything changes,” he said with a bit of sadness to his voice.

“It’s settled then, Rose, I’m taking your car,” she said with such an authority that had me like a chicken in my seat.

Before Rose had time to protest, Esme was out the door, and starting up Rose’s crimson red M3.

“That was awkward,” Emmett looked like he was holding back a laugh.

“What’s so funny, Emmett?” Rose asked suddenly coming out of her trance.

“Well, she looked like she was in a rush, so my only guess is that they’re about to hook up,” he said, all the while choking in laughs.

Rose smacked him in the shoulder; it shouldn’t have hurt because his huge muscles looked like they were made of stone.

“Hey, that hurt,” he was still in the joking mode.

She made a gesture pointing to me then looking at him.

“Oh come on, Bella, please tell me you’ve had this talk with her already?!”

“Seriously guys, back to the subject, we were talking about the kid in the hospital, probably dying last thing I remember,” Alice started to say apparently trying to save my mother another moment of embarrassment, “how did it turn into a sex talk?”

“You know what, I think it’s late enough, and Nessie needs to go to bed, don’t you agree, Bella?”

“He’s right, she has a long day ahead of her tomorrow, and we don’t want to stress her more than she already is, so off to bed, Ness,” Mom demanded.

“Fine, I am kind of tired.” I agreed lamely

I went and hugged everyone, except Emmett, because, from experience, I knew that he always liked to hug everyone as tight as he could when he was in his “all right” mood.

He was always in his “all right” mood.

“What, no hug tonight for your favorite uncle?” Emmett asked with a mocking tone.

“I’m sleepy, nights”

“Good night, sweetie,” Mom said as she kissed the top of my forehead.

“Night, mom.”

“See you tomorrow,” I shouted back as I made my way up the stairs.

If there’s even a tomorrow, I thought to myself.

For the first time in a long time, I was actually glad to go to sleep.

That night, I dreamt horribly. I dreamt that I was with my mom and dad running away from something.

“Where are we going?” I had asked.

“Away, away from home, Nessie,” Mom said with a worried bit to her tone, “Away from Forks.”

Away from Forks? I had lived there my entire life, and now I was leaving the town I loved dearly. It looked liked we had been running for several days now.

When I turned back, I was expecting to see Rose, Emmett, and everyone else, but I was shocked to be wrong.
“Where is everyone else?”

No one answered. Complete silence, it was as if I hadn’t said anything, like if they were deaf.

That’s when I saw the sign, just sitting there on the dead-like road in front of us.

“Welcome to Volterra, Italy”

Suddenly, fifteen dark figures sprang at us.
