I groaned, and then I got really hot, even hotter than before. Leaf and I followed Bella through the line, all the while I was concentrating on not burning anything or anyone up.

“What do you feel like getting Selena?” Bella asked politely.

“I just want a Coke, thanks,” I tried to smile, hoping that it was convincing. Then I heard Jessica say to Bella, “You’re not sitting with us?”

“Nope,” Bella stated. She handed me my soda.

“But what about me?” I practically whined. But then I heard some low laughter that only my not-so-normal ears could hear. “Oh, no they didn’t. I think I might put the smack down in this house!”

“You know what? I’ve changed my mind. I’ll go sit with those anti-social people. Maybe I can make them more…sociable.” Leaf heard me, and led me towards their table I was too pissed that some vampire laughed at me to be afraid. Sure I knew that I was confronting Death, but did I have the common sense to walk away? Apparently not.

I felt all of them stiffen when I approached their table, which made me smile wickedly. I said, “Bonjour mes ravissants petits. N'est-il pas un jour de beau et triste pour avoir vampires’ sortent de leurs coquilles anti-mortel? Je pense certainement.”

“What?” asked a very confused voice.

“S'il vous plaît excusez Emmett. Comme vous pouvez le dire, il n'est pas le plus brillant dans la boîte de Crayola,” said a very light voice.

“I heard my voice in that, what are you saying about me?” Emmett asked.

“Nothing Emmett. Souhaitez-vous vous asseoir avec nous?”

“But she’s a werewolf! She shouldn’t even be here!” someone accused.

“So? I like her! Plus I absolutely adore her hair!”

I smiled. “Sure I’d like to sit with you.”

“Now hang on a minute, Wolf Girl. I don’t-” Emmett started.

I got all hot again (I could tell because the soda in my hand started to bubble up.) I knew where Emmett sat (his voice has some very big vibrations) – he was right in front of me – so, I leaned down to his face level and said, “Don’t make me kick your ass.”

Emmett threatened, “Is that a promise?”

When I punched him, I was hyper-aware that my hand was very hot, which I was pretty sure made it feel as if I put more force into it.

“Ow!” he yelled at me. I burst out laughing; I couldn’t help it! Laughing helped me a lot because I cooled down.

“Here,” said the girl that complimented on my hair, “Come sit by me. Oh, and by the way, my name is Alice.”

She offered me and chair, and I sat down. “Now,” Alice said, “Let’s talk about the treaty we made a long time ago.”

I was confused. “What treaty?” Oh snap, I should’ve stayed with the rest of the “pack” long enough so that they could explain things to me!
