Ally’s POV: I went into the bathroom shivering from the cold and stripped off my wet clothes. Before I could turn on the shower, I heard a knock on the bathroom door and Bella’s voice on the other side.

“Hey, Ally, Dan and I are going to the grocery store. Will you be alright alone for a little while?” she asked.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine!” I yelled through the door.

“Great, we’ll be back in an hour!” She said. I heard her footsteps receding down the hallway, then I heard the front door shut. I sighed, stepping into the shower; alone for an hour…what to do?

After I made sure I was squeaky clean, I grabbed a towel and headed out to Bella’s room. I put on a pair of jeans and a cute pink t-shirt that said “girls rule, boys drool” on it. While combing my hair, I went downstairs and into the kitchen.

I found that on the dining table, Bella had made my breakfast for me: two pieces of French toast, a banana, a cup of orange juice, and an energy bar. Oh my gosh, she is such a sweetheart! I mean, I’m practically a stranger to her; I barge in and sleepover at her house, and I invade her last peaceful human week, and here she is, making me breakfast!

After I ate it all, I went over and flopped down on the couch, looking for something to do. I was about to turn on the TV when I heard a knock on the door. I went over cautiously and opened the door a sliver. When I saw who it was, I heaved open the door, and my heart practically burst out of my chest.

It was Jacob. His bare chest was glowing and his hair was up in a little ponytail. He was wearing baggy jeans that hung off his perfect waist and he was barefoot. I stopped staring up and down at him and smiled. He grinned back quite sheepishly, and it made my head spin.

“Hey Ally.” He said, the deep voice rang in my ears and it made my heart flutter when he said my name.

“Hey Jake.” I said, shocked at how small my voice sounded next to his. We stood there in pure blissful silence, staring at each other.

“So…what brings you here today?” I asked, wanting to hear his voice again.

“Well, Bells called and told me to come baby-sit you.” My mouth fell open and I was about to yell at him and argue, but he raised his hand and grinned again. “But I declined. I’m only here because I want to hang out with you, not baby-sit you.”

“Wow, thanks. I can’t believe Bella would ask you that. They’re only gone for like, an hour, and she forgot that I’m like, 16 years…” I stopped talking because he was leaning closer, and closer to me, until his back was bent and his lips were at my ear.

I was frozen, I couldn’t have moved away even if I had wanted to. I could feel his burning breaths, and there was a lump in my throat. I swallowed hard and he chuckled.

“Aren’t you gonna to invite me in?” He whispered. I took in a deep breath and tried to calm my racing heart, and my pulsing nerves.

“Technically, it’s not my house, so I can’t invite you in.” I said. He laughed again and I turned my head towards him, our faces only a centimeter apart.

Suddenly, his lips were on mine, and his arms encircled my waist. He was still bent, because I was so much shorter than him, and I was vaguely aware of him picking me up, crushing me to his blazing hot chest and walking, our lips still glued together.

I felt something soft, and I realized I was lying on the sofa, Jacob lying on the side of me. I hooked both my arms around his neck and brought him as close as possible; but that was the point were he broke the kiss and I gasped, opening my eyes.

“Sorry, I got carried away!” His voice sounded breathless too, and it made me want to sing in euphoria.

“It’s ok, I didn’t mind…” I said softly. We both laughed, in each other’s arms.

“I like your shirt.” He said, looking down. I had to look down also because I couldn't even remember my own name at the moment, forget what shirt I was wearing. I reread it and laughed.

“Yeah; kismet is my natural destiny. It creeps up even in my clothes.” I said. He stopped laughing and staring at me so hard, I had to look away. After a couple minutes of complete silence, I regained my composure.

“Hmmm…what now?” I asked, looking up into his dark eyes. He just continued to stare at me for a while. Finally he smiled and broke the connection between our eyes.

“Let’s play 20 questions. Ten for me, ten for you. I’ll go first.” He said, getting up and dragging me along. I tried to pull my arms away, but he just pulled me closer, leaving me no way to escape from his raw strength. We sat against the sofa, my legs draped over his lap and our arms entwined. It may seem a little too intimate for a couple that just met, but it felt so good! He felt warm and soft, like a real home.

“So, number 1, hmmm…what’s your favorite thing about yourself?” He asked. I had to look away again from his face and regain my focus to answer the question.

“I guess…” I chewed my bottom lip trying to think. “Well everyone who knows me says that I’m a real bright person, that I’m always cheery and upbeat. I don’t know, but I think that’s a pretty good thing…right?” I looked up at him, searching his face. His eyes were bright and dancing and his smile was purely sunny.

“That’s a really good thing.” He said. I smiled, and asked the next question.

“Ok, so if you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?”

“Being a wolf.” He said abruptly, as if it were the first thing he thought.

“Oh. Is it really that bad?” I asked. He backpedaled.

“No, I’m just being weird. Some is good, but most of it…well, it’s not the lifestyle choice I would choose for myself.” He said thoughtfully. I wanted to ask so much more about being a werewolf, but didn’t push it because of the look on his face.

“So next question; if you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?”

“Ummm…probably Australia.” I said. He looked very shocked: his eyes were huge and jaw hung open.

“Why?” He mused.

“Because it’s an amazing place, I know it sounds weird, but just think about it. You live on the coast, next to the beach, crisp weather that actually follows the seasons, marvelous marine life, beautiful city lights. The Aussies are very free in government, the people are great; nice accents, traditions, awesome food, plenty of animals, great music, gorgeous landscape…it’s like living out the good parts of a vacation every day. Who wouldn’t want to live there?” I finished my little tourist speech and looked back at Jacob. He was still in his shock position, but I think it was a different kind of shock…like realizing something about someone that you love.

“Ally, I need to tell you, I…” he trailed off.

“You…?” I asked. He was staring at me incredulously and suddenly, the front door swung open—making us both jump up—bringing in a huge batch of balloons, followed by an excited Bella and a cautious Dan. ‘Happy birthday’ was written all over the balloons, and then I saw that Dan was holding a humongous cake in his right hand.

“HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY, ALLY!” Bella yelled coming in and hugging me, balloons flying around us. I hugged her back, completely shocked. Bella was not this type of person.

“Whoa…thanks Bella. I…don’t know what to say.” I said. I looked at Jake but he just a completely blank face, none of the emotions he had about 10 seconds ago.

“Well, you don’t have to say anything. It’s just a couple balloons and a cake. Here, come on! Let’s cut it now.” She said, dragging me over to the dining table. I looked around, Jake was standing on the opposite side of the table, Dan was standing on my right, and Bella on my left. I looked back down and at the cake, tears in my eyes.

It said “happy birthday Ally” and I could smell the chocolate inside with the vanilla outside, my favorite. Bella grabbed a couple candles and stuck them in there, and then reached over and lit the candles. Dan put his arm around me and Bella handed me the knife.

“Make a wish and blow out the candles.” Bella said. I leaned over and thought of my wish, looking up and into Jake’s black eyes. Emotions whirled inside of me and I let out a breath, which blew out the candles. I kept my eyes linked with Jake’s as I started cutting a slice in the cake, vaguely aware of everyone clapping.

Abruptly, he leaned over the small dining table, a foot away from my face. I thought he was going to kiss me, but he reached down and picked up a small piece of the slice I just cut, and held it up to my mouth, finally smiling and letting my nerves relax. I grinned and opened my mouth, but just as I was about to eat it, he smeared it on my right cheek and I gave a shriek, jumping back.

Everyone laughed, and suddenly hands were reaching out, spreading the cake all over my hair, face, and clothes.

I went down and grabbed a huge blob of cake and threw it who-knows-where, successfully hitting a stricken Dan on the face.

He groaned and took some cake also, finally joining in our immature cake fight. Suddenly everyone stopped and I looked up, searching for the interruption, finding someone I had been very anxious to meet.

The one and only, Edward Cullen.
