3 Days Later…Bella’s POV:
I woke with a start, sweating and breathing hard. Everything was spinning around me in circles and I could only hear the light snoring of Ally next to my bed, on the floor. I blinked repeatedly until the room came back to focus, and I saw Alice staring at me intently from the corner of the bed.
"Good sleep?" She whispered. It was the day…the wedding day, approximately 8:30 am, Saturday morning. Last night, Rosalie, Esme, Ally, Alice and I had all gone to have a private dinner down in Seattle, and when we came back, Alice declared that Edward couldn’t stay over tonight since it was my last night of being a bachelorette.
"Not exactly…I didn’t get any sleep, I’m just…so nervous." I said, taking deep, calming breaths.
"Yes, I know…but you’re not having any doubts or regrets, are you?" She asked softly. I shook my head vigorously.
"Of course not, Alice. It’s all just happening so fast. One minute, I’m a lone 17-year-old moving to Forks, and then next minute, I’m getting married to a vampire!" I whispered/shrieked. Ally grunted awake in her sleep, looking around and rubbing her eyes.
"Wuzgoinon?" Ally slurred.
"Nothing sweetie, you can go back to sleep." Alice said fondly to her. Ally yawned, stretched, and grinned. She licked her lips and winked at me.
"So you got cold feet?" Ally asked jokingly.
"No. I love Edward. He is my other half, and I know what it’s like being without him, so I’m going to do my very best to never lose him again. If getting married is what it takes, than bring on the dress." I said, smirking. Alice and Ally clapped simultaneously and there was a knock on the door.
"Come in!" I shouted. Esme, Rosalie, and Charlie all filed in my tiny room.
"Hey Bells, there is someone who would like to see you…" Charlie said, smiling. I raised an eyebrow, and then a squeal that I could recognize a million years from now erupted from down the hall. Renee ran in; her pale face flushed, her hair in a messy ponytail, and a she looked as young and happy as ever.
"BELLA!" she yelled, hugging me, and jumping excitedly. I hugged her back with equal happiness and breathed in the scent that was my only friend for 17 years. It brought tears to my eyes and a blush to my face.
"Mom! I missed you so much! You look so good, how are you? Where’s Phil?" I asked, wiping my tears before facing her and looking her over, drinking in the last couple of hours I would ever see her.
"Bells, I missed you too! I’m fine, but Phil couldn’t come because he had two games in one weekend...he sends his best wishes, though. I can’t believe my baby is getting married…I feel so old!" she said. We both laughed and I noticed that everyone else had left, leaving the both of us alone in my room.
"Mom, I’m so glad you came. Everything is going to be better now that you’re here." I said.
"Oh, sweetheart. You just look so happy. Are you happy?" she asked me, suddenly critical yet understanding.
"Absolutely, perfectly happy, mom." I stated with feeling, watching her face soften and her bright smile.
"Edward picked me up from the airport. I can never get used to how much of a gentleman that boy is; so polite, such good manners. Is he always like that?" She asked. I nodded and giggled.
"Well, we just got here and…oh my goodness, there is just so much to do! Alice told me everything about the plans, but we still have to pick up all of our dresses, shoes, get our hair and nails done, and then we have to get you your something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue! This is so exciting!" Esme said energetically. I blinked and shook my head, smiling. Same Renee. Edward’s POV:
I was so happy, that I couldn’t speak. I seriously could not come up with words to express my sheer joy for what today was. I was finally getting married to my beautiful Bella. I was now sitting on my piano, at last finishing the song I was working on for the whole night. I was so excited last night, that the song actually had lyrics; something that I don’t do very often at all.
"Edward! Emmett! Jasper! Carlisle! Daniel! I’m putting your tuxes right here and you guys better be ready and at the meadow at 5:00 or else!" Alice shouted before she, Rosalie, and Esme all left for Bella’s house. I was quite angry that I did not get to spend last night with Bella, but now the anger was gone. There was nothing except pure delight.
"Gross. Gold and Black? What kind of combination is that?" Emmett said, coming downstairs, suit in one hand and the tie in the other. I grinned; Bella picked those colors because they were the colors of my eyes. It was about the only thing she did get to pick, because Alice had practically dictated over the wedding plans. I didn’t mind, as long as I was the one kissing the bride at the end.
"Edward, these vows you gave me are quite beautiful. I feel so honored that you would pick me to reside over the ceremony. Thank you." Carlisle said, also coming downstairs, followed by Dan and Jasper. We had given Dan the guest room on the second floor, and he played as my audience last night for my practice with Bella’s new song.
"It was no problem, Carlisle, you were the first we thought of. Right, so Alice told me that we have to get the chairs, altar, carpet, stereo, and tables to the meadow because she doesn’t think the movers will do it right and we need extras for Jacob, Dan and Ally. Anyway, we should probably get going." I said.
Why is that dog coming anyway? Emmett thought.
"He is Bella’s best friend, Emmett." I said. He nodded solemnly, and we all stood up and started to leave until I noticed something lying on my suit’s lapels. It was a note scribbled in Bella’s adorable messy scrawl, something she probably wrote last night before she went home. I opened the paper that was fringed with her scent, reading slowly.Dear Edward,
Today we’re getting married (it’s still really weird saying that). I hope you’re as happy as I am. The reason I’m writing you this note is because I wanted to explain some things. I know that the first time you asked me to marry you, I was hesitant and I said no. The reason for that was because I was actually a little apprehensive to what others would think. What would it be like, for them to say that I got married just fresh out of high school? I never wanted to be that kind of girl…but now it’s different because I know that no matter what happens, you will always be there for me, to love me and to keep me whole. Even my parents and the whole Jacob thing worked itself out. That showed that this is meant to be. I feel as if you and I are written in destiny. Anyway, sorry to get all fairytale on you, but I just wanted to tell you how I felt. Now, the second thing: I know that you don’t want to change me, but this was our deal. I still want to be changed, but I want to wait until after the wedding night. I hope that is ok with you. Ok, the last thing is that I’m admitting that you were right. Marriage is not that bad, getting to claim you as mine and only mine…it will be quite a rewarding experience.
Love from your fiancée,
P.S.: I’m not going to call you Eddie anymore…its just weird. I love you!
I grinned, my heart swelled and I closed my eyes, seeing Bella’s face that was always on my mind. I folded the note carefully and put it in my pocket, heading out of the house and keeping the smile on my face.
"Alice! Not so tight!" I squeaked, gripping onto the dresser in Alice’s bedroom. She was pulling on the laces to the back of my wedding dress, which was picked out for me especially from Alice and Edward; I wanted to pick out my own dress, but I knew that if Edward picked it, I would absolutely love it. Alice had tried to describe it for me, but I didn’t really understand…I was dying to see it, but Alice said not until I wear it and stood in front of the mirror, so she had annoyingly put a blindfold around my eyes. I was almost ready; my hair was in elaborate curls, half up in a diamond clip, and the other half down my back.
"There!" Alice said, pulling the bow that was on the small of my back. "See, that wasn’t too hard. Are you ready to see it?" she asked. My hands were tingling and I slowly nodded my head and felt her pull off the blindfold, careful of my hair.
I turned around and looked in the mirror, where my breath caught and felt faint. In all 18 years of my life, I had never looked this…complete. I actually looked elegant, yet still younger, and fresher. I was never one to praise myself, usually it was the opposite, but this dress, this day, the person I was getting married to; it made me feel at least a little more deserving of a beauty like Edward.
The dress was ultra-white, blending beautifully to my too-pale skin. There was a beaded lace on top of the halter sleeves, making my arms and back bare, down to the cornflower blue ribbon that was tied on my waist with the bow in the back and leading down to the trail of my dress, dragging gracefully on the floor. The satin dress was old-fashioned, yet with a touch of modern day beauty, just like Edward himself. I’m sure he picked out the hint of blue for his personal pleasure.
Alice had done my make-up in a way that would make most professional make-up artists cry. I had light blue eye shadow that matched the dress, however looked natural enough against my hollow skin. My lipstick was a glossy pink, and there was no foundation or blush, yet I still looked like a porcelain doll.
"See? Perfection has its rewards…" Alice whispered behind me. I finally noticed the other person standing in the room and I twirled around and hugged her with every bit of strength in me. She hugged me back and then the door opened, and I stood back. Esme and Rosalie entered; wearing cornflower blue halter tops the same as my ribbon. Alice was my maid of honor, so she was wearing the same color, yet different style. Each of the vampires looked hysterically beautiful in their own way.
"Oh my heavens, Bella you are indescribably beautiful!" Esme said, coming in and hugging me. I knew she would be crying if she could. Rosalie came over and hugged me also.
"You even look prettier than me today, Bella." Rosalie whispered. I gaped as she backed away, smiling.
"Bells? Is that you?" Renee said, walking in the door. She was wearing a gorgeous, sleeveless, white dress that came down to her knees with a black sash; it was something only my mother could pull off, with her straight brown hair down and her bright and excited eyes, including her very high black heels.
"Yeah mom. It’s me; you look so amazing!" I said. She came over and gave me a tight and teary hug, pulling away and kissing me on the forehead.
"I’m so proud of you, Isabella. You are the most perfect daughter a mother could ever have." She said.
"WOW! Bells you look so INCREDIBLE!" Ally yelled walking in. She was wearing a simple yet charming strapless, knee-length, black dress with silver shoes strapped to her tiny feet.
"Thanks. You look so adorably cute! Let me guess, Alice’s doing?" I said. Ally grinned and gave Alice a high-five. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Alice high-five someone; it was kind of funny. Ally came over and hugged me also, and I gave her a tight squeeze. I loved Ally like a sister, and I wouldn’t even be able to see her until I got my bloodlust under control. I tried not to dwell over the negatives while I let go.
"Here you go, Bells, I got you something old, and Alice got you something new." Renee said, before putting a light silver chain with a butterfly on my neck. I remembered it from a long time ago, back in phoenix on one of my Renee’s little shopping endeavors. It brought tears to my eyes, but I held them back as Alice put little butterfly earrings in my ear holes.
"I bought them today so that they would match your mother’s present." Alice whispered in my ear, too low for Renee to hear. I knew she must have had a vision of it all.
"Here is something borrowed, Bella." Rosalie said, handing over a marvelously peal-incrusted tiara that matched the beads on my dress. She walked over and pinned it on top of my head. I could tell that she must have worn in it one of her many weddings with Emmett, and it looked so good on top of my dark brown hair. I nodded and bit my lip; it was getting harder not to cry. I kissed Rosalie on the cheek and she gave my arm a gentle squeeze, smiling.
"And drum roll please! Esme has your something blue!" Ally said, before cracking up, laughing aloud. Esme smiled as only a mother could, and came over, holding out the most beautiful piece of jewelry yet. It was a sapphire blue brooch, matching everything, but it still looked completely unique as Esme pinned it above my heart, to my dress.
"I wore this in my wedding with Carlisle, I think it suits you perfectly. You were even born in September, so sapphire is your birthstone, yes?" Esme spoke gently and softly, caressing my cheek and wiping the tears that were now flooding down. I nodded and grabbed a towel off the dresser, swabbing my cheeks.
"Thank you all so much…without you guys, I wouldn’t be anywhere." I croaked and sniffled.
"Group hug!" Ally said, before rushing over to hug me. Alice, Renee and Esme hugged me also, and Rosalie put her arm around my shoulders. I was so happy, that I couldn’t speak.
"Come on guys, we have a wedding to perform!" Alice said.
"Wait Alice! I know I’m going to regret this, but where are my shoes?" I asked.
"Oh yes, sorry! I know you didn’t like the stilettos so I got you another pair." Alice said, leaving the room for only a moment before coming back with an adorable pair of much-easier-to-wear heels with little white bows on them.
"Thank you, Alice!" I gasped. Everything was going so perfectly, it was hard to imagine it was real, and not just the dream of a lifetime. I better not forget this after the transformation or else I was going to be so angry.
"There are going to be lots of pictures, right?" I asked. Ally grinned mischievously and nodded, holding up a silver digital camera.
"Yup! I’ve got all evidence right here!" She said.
I bit my lip and whispered, "Let’s go then." Edward’s POV:
I was pacing the meadow and grounding my teeth around 5:25 pm. Why weren’t they here yet? I was literally going through physical pain of not seeing Bella and the fact that I was about to be married. I wasn’t nervous; I was so damn excited, that I could barely stand still.
"Edward, sit down! You’re making me nervous, and that’s not good." Jasper said, sending me calming waves that reluctantly gave into. I sat down for about 4 seconds until I heard the distinct noise of a 911 turbo Porsche coming down the road about 2 miles away. I hopped up and grinned, probably looking like an idiot. My cell phone ringed in my pocket and I opened it quickly.
"Edward, don’t you dare look in any of our thoughts to see Bella, she’s nervous as it is, and you aren’t supposed to see the bride before she comes down the carpet." Alice growled on the other line.
"Sure Alice, whatever you wish. Is everything ready? Can we start now? I made a long path through the forest so that you all could drive through. Charlie is waiting for you right at the entrance of the clearing." I said eagerly into the phone.
"Yes, we’ll be there in a couple minutes." She said, hanging up. I gave everyone a nod, and Emmett held the remote for the stereo, ready to start the bridal march when they came, Carlisle stepped behind the altar, and Charlie stepped out into forest. Jacob came over and I focused on blocking out all thoughts of everyone else’s and keeping my own.
"Hey Edward, you’ll keep her happy and safe, right?" Jake asked quietly. I could tell he was uncomfortable being surrounded by vampires, and he kept fidgeting with his tie.
"Even after her last breath, Jacob. Thank you for coming, by the way." I said. He nodded and went to sit down. I stood in front of the wooden altar and Emmett stood next to me, giving me a playful nudge on the shoulder, and Jasper stood next to him, smiling at me. Dan sat across from Jacob, and smiled encouragingly at me. I heard a branch crack in the forest and looked up. Bella’s POV:
Alice’s car weaved through the forest, where I presume Edward had made a path for us. Renee, Alice, and Ally were grinning from ear to ear and Esme and Rosalie were smiling softly, probably reminiscing over their weddings.
"We’re here! Look, there’s Charlie." Alice said, coming to a stop. As I got off the car with Esme’s help, my heart was fluttering like a caged hummingbird, and my blood was boiling. Charlie came over and smiling, fidgeting with a button on his suit. After Alice handed me my bouquet, everyone else besides Charlie and I walked into the trees, most likely heading toward their spots in the meadow.
"Bells, you look so grown up and beautiful." He said, before giving me a hug. This was the first hug from my dad that was not awkward at all, just loving.
"Thanks so much, dad, for everything you did for me." I said. He let go and nodded, and I heard the wedding song coming. I was breathing harshly and everything looked foggy around me. Charlie held on to my right arm, kissed me on the forehead, and started to lead me through the trees, until I saw the most beautiful sight ever. No one’s POV: (like a narrator)
Isabella Marie Swan, age 18, walked through the trees and into the meadow where she was soon to be wed to Edward Mason Cullen, age 17. The small meadow was strung by tiny lantern lights, which dangled off the trees and made the clearing look luminescent, also glowing off the vampires’ forever-pale skin.
The bride’s face looked astonished and faint yet somehow determined as she grasped her father’s arm and began her stride down the red carpet that was leading to her destiny. The groom looked stunned, golden eyes wide, jaw hanging slightly open, before he snapped into a grin so wide and triumphant, it made his shiny teeth sparkle in the light of the sunset.
Renee Dwyer stood, quivering with tears of joy and pride, staring at her daughter. Alison Hartman had one hand on Renee’s shaking shoulder, and the other hand clasped tightly-as if glued-to a certain werewolf’s hand. Jacob Black stood with half a smile on his face, as if unsure whether to be happy for his best friend or not. Part of him wanted to save Bella from becoming a hideous monster, but the bigger part of him wanted Bella’s happiness, which she could only receive with this wedding.
Finally, the bride’s father came to a stop and let go of his daughter’s arm, giving her hand officially to the groom, who held both of Bella’s hands as they stood in front of the altar.
"Who gives this bride to the groom?" Carlisle Cullen asks softly, his strong voice echoing off the very grass.
"Her mother and I do." Charlie says shakily. After a tip of his head, he sits down next to the bawling Renee.
Alice Cullen, the maid of honor, and the two bridesmaids, Rosalie Hale and Esme Cullen. Emmett Cullen, the best man, and Jasper Hale stood firmly behind their brother, and Daniel Hartman acted as the ring bearer, as he held a blue pillow fringed with golden lace, on which two silver wedding bands sat. They were simple, yet radiantly unique, as Edward had intended them to be. The discrete noise of camera snapshots was the only noise filled in the happy meadow.
"Dear friends and family, we have gathered here today to intertwine two destinies in the shape of marriage, a vow too beautiful and honored to describe. Edward and Bella would like to recite their vows to each other in the presence of their beloved." Carlisle said, gesturing to Edward to deliver first.
"I, Edward Anthony Masen Cullen, promise my soul to you and only you, Isabella Marie Swan, for you are the holder of my heart and the angel with which I could never be without. I love you more than words can say, and I will do whatever is in my position to keep you safe and whole for the rest of my days." Edward alleged, sincerity and truth ringing in his every word.
"I, Isabella Marie Swan, give my soul and life to Edward Anthony Masen Cullen. My mind is clear and my commitment is strong and without hesitance. I take you to be my eternity’s partner. I will never leave you nor forsake you; I will spend all my days at your side. We will share a lifetime of eternal, immeasurable love, and I promise to give you all I can to make you happy forever." Bella declared, her face flushed with emotion, however she did not stutter or pause once during her own vow.
"The rings please." Carlisle said. Daniel stepped out from behind Emmett and strode carefully in front of the couple, and each of them picked up the other’s ring.
"With this ring, I wed." Edward said, his smile illuminating his face. With the most delicate of movements, he slowly glided the band onto Bella’s third finger, where it rested just above the engagement ring. He could hear Bella’s heartbeats stop, and then pick up again.
"With this ring, I wed." Bella stated, placing the ring on Edward’s hand, caressing the cold, slim finger. She bit her lip to disguise her grin, as she looked into Edward’s eyes and the world seemed to fall away before her. Both heard only six words before they united fully.
"You may now kiss the bride…" And so they did, happily sealing their love together forever.
"Edward…do we have to?" I asked softly, trying not to sound childish. Edward grinned and nodded.
Everyone clapped and cheered and congratulated us as we headed toward the small stage on the side of the clearing. The dance floor. I swallowed hard, and let Edward’s arm support my waist. A beautiful symphony played behind us and I felt Edward pick me up a little, until my feet were on his, leaving me free of actually dancing or tripping.
"Oh, thank you." I said, looking up at the perfection that was now my husband.
"No problems, sweetheart, you’re the bride…just try to enjoy this, alright?" He asked me.
"Of course, how could I not?" I sighed blissfully, laying my head on his chest, relishing in the feel of his arms around me.
"You know Bella, one night I looked up at the stars and thought of how beautiful they were. Now that I’m with you, nothing else can compare…" Edward muttered softly into my ear. I giggled lightly. I heard a different type of music now, and I noticed that everyone else had started to dance around us, except for Dan who was playing the nice melody on an acoustic guitar that was carved out of oak wood. I didn’t know he could play! I thought.
"Did you just giggle? I don’t think I’ve ever heard you do that before…it’s quite enchanting." He whispered.
"Edward! Stop with the flattery, I get the idea." I said, smiling in spite of myself.
"Wait, I have more. You’re so hot, you’re making the sun jealous." He said, now grinning, his eyes bright and playful. I laughed again.
"Oh, and the fact that your eyes must have been made out of pure moonshine." He continued. I just couldn’t stop giggling.
"Edward, what is the matter with you? I’ve never seen you this…informal." I said. He shrugged and kept going.
"If everyone had a penny for every time I thought of you, there would be no more poor people." He said. I was now blushing so hard I could hardly hold it in.
"Edward!" I whined, secretly enjoying every second of this.
"Ok, one more?" He asked. I sighed.
"Fine, just one. Although, I don’t know why you’re doing this." I said. He took my face in his hands and bent down until his nose was skimming against mine, and I was lost in the seas of his deep golden eyes.
"I love you." He said simply, stroking his cold lips against mine. Needless to say, I was pretty dazzled once again.
After our dance, I sat down, pulling Bella onto my lap. She was still a bit mesmerized and I took pride in that. Emmett suddenly stood up, clearing his throat loudly and grinning. Everyone looked at him and I groaned inwardly.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to propose a toast." He said. We all raised our glasses, the vampires ready to avoid actually drinking the wine.
"Ok, I just wanted to say this: ‘You come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly.’ To me, both of you guys are perfect, so I hope you spend forever happily." Emmett smiled. I was taken aback. I never would have thought he would say something so endearing. I thought he would have made a crack at my virginity or something like that… Everyone drank (or pretended to drink) his or her wine. Bella didn’t actually even drink it. She just smiled and held my hand tighter.
"I also wanted to say something." Jasper stood up, and I smiled at him. Yes, Edward, I’m reading your happiness loud and clear…He thought. "Bella and Edward share a type of love in which obstacles and conflicts arise. The way they skirt these problems is astounding, and I wish the very best to their love." He said, sitting down.
"Oh! Me next!" Alice jumped up, and everyone grinned. "May the best day of your past be the worst day of your future. I love you guys!" she said, before sitting down. Carlisle and Esme both stood up and delivered their good luck speech also.
"Love is a precious and unique thing, and we are both so happy that you could find it in each other." Esme said.
"We hope every second of your new life is as radiant as the one before it. May your life be granted with every pleasure possible." Carlisle said, smiling knowledgably. Suddenly Rosalie stood, giving us all a surprise.
"I have learned that happy marriages begin when we marry the one we love, and they blossom when we love the one we married. May you have both." She said elegantly, before sitting back down and pursing her lips.
"People say that when children find true love, parents find true joy. Here's to your joy and ours, from this day forward. Love you, sweetheart." Renee said, tearing up again, before taking her seat and taking a few pictures of us.
"Bells. I love you more than anything else in the world, and I just want you to be happy. It’s hard for a father to let go of his daughter, but I can’t hold on to you forever. I hope you both have a great life together." Charlie said, looking at the floor.
I turned a little and saw that Bella was crying and smiling at the same time. I pulled out a handkerchief from my pocket and dabbed her eyes with it. I was vaguely aware of someone taking more pictures until I heard Jacob rise from his chair also. Bella and I looked up at the same time and I locked eyes with the wolf.
"Uh, I hope you guys have fun and stay safe forever." He said quickly and sat back down. Ally stood up and grinned a bright smile at us. We both smiled back at her, the cute little girl managed to make me feel like a 17 year old again, and that took a lot of work.
"Ok, so nine out of ten people in the world want to fall in love and live out their fairy tale dreams; but only two out of ten get to actually pursue those dreams. I think Bella and Edward are the most deserving people to be those two out of ten, cuz they love each other more than anything else. I hope you guys live happily ever after!" Ally clapped and ran over, giving Bella and I a tight hug in which I was as stiff as a board and Bella was sobbing into Ally’s shoulder.
"You all are the best people in the world and I’m so happy that we could share this amazing day with all of you!" Bella cried. I chuckled and wiped her face again, kissing her cheeks.
"Yes, thank you all for coming, it has meant everything to us." I said, smiling.
"Let’s cut the cake!" Alice said excitedly. Emmett rolled in a huge white cake, and handed us a silver knife with a ribbon on it. Bella had stopped crying, but now looked a little angry.
"I only wanted a small cake! Who is going to eat all this? And what is that on the top? Alice!" Bella yelped, pointing to the wedding topper. I looked on the top and couldn’t hold back a choke of laughter. It was a white porcelain heart, with two doves standing on top, joined together by their beaks. It was pretty, but of course Bella would get angry over the thought of someone spending money over her.
"Hey don’t look at me! Ally got that for you!" Alice said, throwing her hands up in surrender.
"I thought they were cute…" Ally said quietly, giving Bella the most adorable pout. Bella’s anger vanished completely and I heard her give a soft "Awww, Ally they are so cute, thank you." at my side.
I raised an eyebrow and she looked back down, smiling and held the knife. I put my hand softly over hers, and together we cut the cake, and everyone else was clapping. I took a piece of the cake and put it up to Bella’s mouth, letting her eat it. She grinned, and for some reason, she blushed violently, each color deeper than the previous.
"What is it?" I whispered to her. She shook her head and ate the piece of cake, blushing when more pictures were taken. Esme started to cut the cake into more pieces, for Ally, Jake, Bella, and Charlie. I grabbed Bella’s piece before she could, and we both sat back down. She gestured for me to give her the cake, but I shook my head and grinned, picking up the fork next to me and made to feed her.
"Edward…" she said, I put the cake in her mouth before she could say anything else, and she smiled, eating it.
"Let’s open presents, shall we?" I said, eager for the next phase of this wedding plan. Bella nodded and we all gathered around the table that was under three boxes with various ribbons and wrapping paper. We sat down and I picked up the box nearest to me, unwrapped the paper, and handed it to Bella.
"You guys didn’t have to buy presents! We already have everything I need. There was no reason to spend—" Bella said, until she was interrupted.
"That one’s from us." Rosalie said, Emmett smiling from behind her. Bella sighed and opened the white box, giving a tiny gasp. I looked inside and smiled. It was a very large silver frame—that said LOVE all over it—with a sepia picture of Bella and I sitting on my piano bench. Both of our eyes were closed, I was probably focusing on the music, and Bella had her head leaning on my shoulder. We were both unintentionally smiling, giving someone the perfect opportunity to take a picture.
"Rose, Emmett, thank you! I love it!" Bella said.
"Thank you very much, Rosalie and Emmett." I said, smiling. They nodded and Emmett winked at me.
"Open mine and Dan’s next!" Ally said excitedly, pointing towards the red and white wrapped box. I pulled it towards me and ripped off the paper gently, giving it over to Bella again. She opened it and grinned. When I saw it, I also grinned and chuckled. Inside lay two black walkie-talkies with batteries, and a little strap that you could hook to your belt.
"Oh my goodness! These are the most adorable presents! Thank you guys SO much!" Bella said.
"Oh yes, these will make my life a million times better, now I can know exactly when Bella falls and where she is in the house by a click of a button!" I laughed. Bella turned bright red and everyone else laughed also. I hugged her closer to make her less embarrassed and she snuggled into my side.
"See! I told you they were a good idea!" Ally said to Dan triumphantly.
"That one is from me and Charlie." Renee said happily.
I picked up the blue box and unwrapped it, knowing that it was quite an amazing present. I gave it to Bella and watched as the tears came to her eyes again. It was a silver trinket box, designed with stars that said ‘Edward’ and others that said ‘Bella’. When she opened the lid of the box, there was a mirror inside and a tiny star revolved in the middle, saying ‘love’, plus a sweet melody played from the box.
"Mom. Dad. Thank you." Bella choked out through small sobs. She stood up and hugged her mom, then her dad. I knew it was important for her to say her last goodbyes, because after tonight she would probably never see her parents again. I felt like an evil spirit or demon, taking her away from those who she loved, but that girl was more stubborn than anyone else I’ve ever met.
"Renee, Charlie, this means the world to us. We will keep it forever." I said, standing up and shaking Charlie’s hand, then kissing Renee’s cheek.
Suddenly, someone started to translate the national anthem in Greek in her mind. Alice. I turned around and stared her down, while she was grinning with pure glee. I narrowed my eyes at Jasper, who was now playing through various military strategies in his thoughts, and then Carlisle, who was imagining dissecting a frog and labeling each part. Esme became suddenly interested in a flower on the ground, counting the petals over and over again.
"What is it?" I said suspiciously, to fast for the humans to understand, but Dan heard it, and walked over grinning.
"Hmmm, I suppose you’re trying to hide something from him? This should be fun." His mind kept saying that he didn’t know, but he couldn’t wait to find out.
"Ok! So Bella, you have to throw the bouquet!" Alice said, changing the subject. Rosalie, Alice, and Ally huddled together behind Bella, and she turned around and closed her eyes.
"Ready? Here it comes!" She said, throwing it over her shoulder. Rosalie and Alice didn’t even try from what I could see, and the bouquet came flying into a surprised Ally’s hands. Actually, it hit her face with a thump.
"Ouch! Hey, look! I caught it!" she said happily.
"I think it caught you." I said. She laughed and bit her bottom lip. Suddenly, she closed her eyes, and swayed a little. Before anyone else could react, Jacob had caught her and picked her up. Dan was the first to reach her after that.
"What happened?" He demanded.
"I’m fine! It’s just the wine…I think it made me tipsy. I’m seeing purple everywhere!" Ally laughed. I couldn’t help but chuckle at her slurred words; she must have had more wine than anyone else.
"I’m drunk! This is the first time I’ve ever been drunk!" She howled in laughter. Emmett started to laugh also, remembering his first being drunk, and Carlisle shook his head.
"She should go to sleep now, before the wine kills too many of her brain cells." He said. Jacob grinned he and Dan started to walk down the path to his rabbit. In his mind, Dan told me he would run back home after he made sure Ally got to Jake’s house ok. She had been living there for only two days now, and even though Billy was their chaperone, I could tell Dan was still nervous.
"Come on, Emmett. Let’s go home. Congratulations, Edward and Bella." Rosalie said, before they took Rosalie’s M3 back home.
"Have a good night, Bella." Alice said, winking at Bella. She was still occupying her mind, so I didn’t know what that meant. They hugged and Bella said thank you numerous times.
"Congratulations you two. See you later." Jasper said, before they both went over to Alice’s turbo and left.
"We’ll see you both tomorrow, yes?" Carlisle said. I nodded and Bella hugged Esme.
"Thank you, Esme, Carlisle, for everything." She said. Esme and Carlisle got into the Mercedes, waiting for Bella and her parents to make their goodbyes. I walked over to a table to give them their privacy, and although I could hear everything they were saying, I pretended not to. After a few moments, Bella came and sat next to me, and I put my arm around her.
"I love you Edward. This was perfect." She sighed.
"I love you also, Bella. Thank you very much." I said. I kissed her softly, tasting her mouth, my paradise.
"These shoes are highly uncomfortable." She said, grinning. Her heartbeat was racing faster than I thought possible as I picked her up and took her to my Vanquish.
"Where are we going?" She asked as I made a turn on to a highway, leading away from my house.
"I thought we could use a more private night alone." I said softly, without really answering her question. She was quiet and smiling the rest of the way as one of Chopin’s nocturnes played in my stereo.
