I ran faster than I ever had in my life and I reached our rental house in record time: 36 seconds.I burst through the front door and ran up the stairs until I reached my room. Slamming the door, I through my self onto my canopy bed and reached to my left and randomly selected a book from one of the shelves that line my walls. Sense and Sensibility was what came back in my hand. Well just lovely! The main character of Sense and Sensibility is named Edward. Was there nothing that could keep him out of my mind? I hated him, yet ever waking moment was spent thinking about him!

I heard a knock on my steel reinforced door. “Annabel. You okay?”

“I’m fine Kara, just leave me alone.” I rolled over and threw the book across the room and I heard a thud as it bounced against the wall.

“Come on, Annabel! Just open up and let’s talk.” There was a knock from somewhere downstairs. “Just a minute. Someone’s at the door.” I could hear her sigh as she turned to walk down the stairs. It was a few minutes later before she came back up. “Annabel,” she said softly, “there’s a really cute vampire here to see you.”

I groaned loud enough for them to hear on the other side of the door. “Would that vampire happen to be named Edward?” I asked, knowing exactly who was on the other side of that steel reinforced door.

“Annabel, its Alice.” A small voice called out.

ALICE?” I screeched as I threw myself off the bed and I ran to the door, quickly throwing back the 4 bolts that held the door in place. It swung open to reveal my 5’9 sister with hair so blonde it was almost white and Alice, her petite frame looking even smaller next to Kara. I threw myself at her in a huge hug. “Oh my God, Alice, I missed you!” I cried as I clung to her neck.

“I know Bella, I know.” She soothed.

I could see out of the corner of my eye that Kara was edging her way to the stairs. Alice gently pushed me away. “Bella-” she started

“Annabel.” I corrected.
”Well, whoever you are, we need to talk.” She took my hand and led me into my open bedroom. She dropped me off at my bed and she took the spinning chair that was next to my desk. “Annabel,” she started, “I think you know who sent me.”

“Edward.” I sighed and frowned.

“Correct.” She smiled.

“And he told you about our…discussion?” She nodded. “What exactly did he tell you?”

“That he took advantage of the fact that your legs were sore, but he didn’t say why, and that you told him that there was no hope of you getting back together.”

“Well, would you get back together with Jasper if he left you ‘for your own good’?” I added air quotation marks.

“I would at least hear his side of the story.”

“Alice, he told me that he didn’t love me anymore! He said that he didn’t want me! Do you know what happened to me when he left?” My voice dropped to a whisper. “I was dying Alice! Not just figuratively, I couldn’t eat, or sleep. Catatonic, they called it. My body shut down so many times, that Charlie almost had me permanently hospitalized. I had lost 15 lbs and when people asked about it, I said that it was ‘the next best thing in dieting.’ That was 6 months after you left. I went to your house one more time when…when Victoria found me.”

“You mean she…”Alice paused, hinting at what she had done. I nodded. “Just one moment, please.” Alice walked out of my room and into the hall. I heard a click and the sound of someone dialing numbers. “Edward.” I heard Alice say. “Yeah. I’m over at Annabel’s. Edward, what the hell were you thinking when you were telling her we were leaving?” She paused. “If she had died, Edward, you would have been at fault.” Another pause. “Don’t give me any excuses! You know, I was sympathized with you when you first came to me and told me your problem, but now… now Edward, I don’t blame her if she never even spoke to you again. It’s your problem now.” Pause. “Uh-huh.” Pause. “Yeah. Bye.”

She came back into the bedroom. “Look, I know that you heard all that, but I have one more question. Why were your legs so sore? I mean vampires can’t feel pain, can they?

I smiled. “Did Edward tell you what my power was?”

She shook her head. “Is it the reason you look different?” I gave her my one-eyebrow-raised-look. “Oh. So you can…?”

“Change my appearance at will. That’s the reason my legs were sore. If you noticed, I made myself a little taller, and when Edward and I were ‘talking,’” I added air quotation marks, “he asked me if I could change back into regular Bella again. I was really feeling sorry for him at this point and I did it. To make yourself taller, Alice, you have to stretch your bones, something even a vampire can feel. And when he made me really mad I changed back. It’s really hard to do a full body change twice in one day; let alone twice in one hour!” Alice nodded. “That’s why my legs were sore and I couldn’t run as fast as I normally could.” We were both quiet for a moment. “Alice, did you have a vision? Is that why you came over here?”

Alice nodded guiltily. “When we first came back to Forks about a week ago, Edward drove past your old house, and…well, let’s just say that he was extremely depressed after we left. I mean he more or less curled up in a ball in some corner or another of the world. And, when we drove past your house, I had a vision of you and Edward. Not Bella and Edward, but you the way you look now.” She gestured up at my hair and down to my new body. “And you were kissing. I told Edward about this, and I assume that when he saw you…he thought that either you would get him out of this dump or something because he pursued you. I’m now really sorry I ever told him about that vision becau---“

She was interrupted by Kara screaming from downstairs, “ANNABEL! YOU HAVE MORE COMPANY!”

“Oh dear God,” I said with a smile to Alice. I screamed back to Kara, “JUST SEND THEM UP!”

I could hear the sound of multiple footsteps coming up the stairs, and a soft knock on the door. “They’re both in there.” I could hear Kara tell someone before she turned to make her way down the stairs. The knock sounded again, but this time it was louder. “Annabel,” came his voice from the other side of the door, “just let me in. We need to talk.”

I undid one of the bolts on the door and opened it so that a sliver of his face showed through. “That’s what you said last time.” I whispered as I undid the other three bolts on the door and let him in completely. As soon as he was fully inside and I turned back to face him, he roughly took my face in his hands and brought my lips to his. For an instant, it was pure bliss; a reminder of how happy we used to be, and I kissed him back. But once that moment was over, I started to get angry and taking both his hands in mine I flipped him over onto his back, his shock expression on his gorgeous face was like heaven. Still keeping his hands in mine, I swung him like a sack of potatoes against my steel enforced door, and I let him drop.

Almost as soon as Edward hit the door, John’s voice sounded outside of it. “Annabel, what are you doing in there? Are you trying to bring the house down? Remember, we don’t own this one!” I could hear him chuckle.

“Don’t worry, John.” I called to the other side of the door. “An old friend dropped by and made me mad.”

Really??” He said. “Who’s the idiot that’s stupid enough to do that? Or the more important thing to ask would be, ‘Who’s suicidal enough to do that?’” he was now full out laughing and I could tell from the look on Edward’s face that he seriously wasn’t expecting me to be the tough one in the family. I looked over at Alice’s face to see her beautiful lips formed in the perfect “O” shape. All of a sudden, I started laughing. I couldn’t help it; it was just that the looks on Alice and Edward’s faces were so priceless! And John was right; it had been at least 15 years sense someone had been stupid enough to get me mad. And it was still strange that I was the violent one in the family, considering my passive nature as a human.

I was now doubled over in laughter but when Edward started to attempt to get up and collect his no doubt wounded pride, I abruptly stopped and straightened up. I walked over to him carefully and tilting his head down to mine, I gently brushed his lips with mine before whispering almost inaudibly in his ear, “Just give up, okay? Unless you have some genius plan to win me back, face it, you blew it. Now get over it.” I released him watched him as he let him self out the door, and then the unmistakable sound of the front door slamming.

I turned to Alice, “Alice, would you like to go shopping?” I smiled with a twinkle in my eye. Living with Kara as a sister, I had thoroughly learned the wonders of shopping and now, it was my second favorite pastime; next to reading, of course! Alice nodded and started for the door. We both ran downstairs and into the driveway where a bright red M3 that I knew was Rosalie’s car, was sitting. “Alice, why do you have Rose’s car?”

“She’s building another one.” Alice said simply as she shrugged.

Catching my appearance in the side view mirror, I reached for my black Coach bag that I usually take everywhere for my lipstick. But it wasn’t there. Smacking my head, I apologized to Alice and sprinted upstairs to retrieve it. And guess who I found relaxing against my bedpost holding my purse hostage upon walking inside. “Give me my bag, Edward.” I growled.

“Don’t tell me you didn’t feel anything in that kiss, Annabel!” He replied.

“I did,” I retorted, “because you are a good kisser. There is nothing more between us, Edward, don’t you see! Do you remember what you said when you left me, all those years ago? I do! You told me very clearly that you didn’t want me anymore and you didn’t love me anymore and now Edward, I am telling you the same thing.” My voice had grown steadily higher until I was positive I was shrieking and I was sure that the entire house, Alice included outside, was listening to out little ‘conversation.’

“Why can’t we just try it one more time, Annabel? Why? What would it hurt?” He looked sincerely sad now.

“I don’t know, what would it hurt, Edward? What if you left me again, hm? What if I actually learned to love you again, than what would happen.” My shrieking voice had calmed down until I was barely whispering. “I can’t die, but would probably try to find a way to end my existence someway or another.

“And if I promised that I would never leave again…” Edward started.

“I wouldn’t believe you.” I finished. Edward sighed and tossed me my bag before making his way towards the door. But before he left, he caught me by the shoulders and spun me around until I was facing him, and he kissed me deeply. This time, there were actually sparks that I could feel through the pressure of his lips on mine. When he pulled back, he was smiling, and I mouthed, “Wow” before kissing him again. Why oh WHY did this feel so good! I hated this person standing before me and yet all I wanted to do was sit here and kiss him for the rest of eternity. I thought about all the things he had done to me and I pulled away roughly. I backed up until I reached the wall before turning around and racing down the stairs, out the open front door, and into the woods.
