This was a crazy idea, an idea that would for sure put me in a mental asylum, but I think it will be worth it in the end…
I picked up my cell phone and dialed Maddie’s number- I would tell all of them my idea, and I really hope they would go along with it.
Any sane person wouldn’t do this- but I had to.
“Hey!” I heard Maddie’s voice say on the other end of the line.
“Hey, it’s me Ashley.” I began.
“I know Einstein, caller ID.” She said-I pictured her rolling her eyes at that moment.
I took a deep breath, “I…have a proposition for you.” I said.
“Okay, spill!” she urged.
“I’ve got a ticket for you, a ticket to Volterra. If I can get you, manda, and Katie to go with me-” I couldn’t even finish explaining.
“A ticket to Italy??!!! Sure I’ll go, we could shop and shop and shop and-” she joked as I cut her off.
“We wouldn’t be going to shop.” I said to her.
“Oh, then what will we be doing?” she asked me.
“We will be going under the city-and I mean way under. We are going to try and see if Volterra is really home to the Volturi.” I said. Here is where I am going to lose her.
“Your kidding, right?” she laughed.
“No, I’m far from kidding.” I said into the phone speaker.
“Vampires can’t be real, can they?” she asked me.
“Just do me a favor and check the news.” I said to her, I was watching it too-which was not normal for me, but this was strangely odd. It was on every channel on T.V. so it’s not like I had a choice.
There was a mass murder in Italy-very close to Volterra. They found the bodies, but there was no blood left in them-that’s not a coincidence.
“Oh my god.” She gasped. She must have seen it.
“I don’t believe in coincidences, do you?” I asked her.
“No, I don’t. This is strange, Ash. What if the Volturi did this?” she asked me.
“That’s exactly what I thought. I know the books are fiction, but what if they weren’t. What if the books were reality?” I asked her.
“Yeah, that’s really good questions that I have no answers too.” She said.
“So let’s get answers!” I urged her.
“Wait, so you’re saying we are going to go to a city possibly filled with human killing vampires and actually look for them? Because last time I checked people run away from danger, not go looking for it!” she exclaimed.
“I know, Maddie, I know. But we have to do this; I got the plane tickets already! Something’s telling me to do this; I’ve never felt so strongly about this. Look, if Manda and Katie go along with it we would all meet in New York, which I got the plane tickets to as well, and then from there we would go straight to Florence. Then get a cab and go to volterra. I got hotel reservations and everything! We have to do this!” I said, practically begging her.
“Alright, I’ll do it. We need cameras, and they have to be small so if we find something like the Volturi we have it on tape.” She planed.
“Way ahead of you. I have been planning this thing for a month- I have little Italian flag pins that have a camera in them. Katie and manda would be watching the camera footage and recording it in the hotel room or in a café or something while we are down there. I have equipment and everything for this.” I explained.
Maddie didn’t answer, I think she was a little shocked, and I was too. I’m not the adventure type, I get nervous for everything. But something was telling me that something was there, hidden away from the rest of the world, and it was all in volterra.
“Okay, okay. Let’s do it. Send me the tickets. I’ll pack, when do we leave?” she asked, recovering.
“In 5 days. And I put the tickets in the mail already.” I said.
“How did you know I would say yes?” she asked me. I was ready and prepared for this trip.
“I just had a feeling after that story on the news.” I smiled, she was predictable.
“Alright then…I guess I will see you in 5 days. I still can’t believe we are off to go searching for killer vampires-were crazy.” She said.
“Yes, but a good crazy.” I added and laughed, she laughed too.
“Bye, ash.” She said.
“Bye bye.” And then I hung up the phone. 1 down 2 more to go…
I then dialed Manda’s number; I was waiting for a ring as I contemplated what I was going to say.
“Hello?” a voice asked, and I was sure it was Miranda’s.
“Manda?” I asked her.
“Yeah?” she asked.
“Oh, sorry I forgot to say who it was, it’s me Ashley.” I laughed.
“I figured. What’s up?” she asked me.
“Well, I have an idea, and this might sound crazy but Maddie is already in this and I need you to be too.” I said to her.
“Alright, what’s the idea?” she asked me.
“I have a plane ticket to New York for you and then from there a Plane ticket to Volterra. We would meet in New York, Maddie, you, me, and Katie. Then we all have seats next to each other on the plane to go from there to Florence and then to volterra.” I said.
“Oh, before I ask why in the world we are going to volterra, did you see the news?? Freaky right, I don’t know if I want to go to volterra went there was just a mass murder by it.” She jumped ahead of me.
“Well, the news is part of the reason we are going.” I then explained the rest of what we would be doing.
“Whoa, we are going to go look for the Volturi and possibly die trying….I’m in.” she concluded.
“Really?” I asked her.
“Yes, I’m in all the way. I’ll pack, but I need the tickets.” She said. All of us lived in different states in the U.S, which is why we were all going to meet in one place.
“I sent them to you early this morning, you should get them in three days.” I estimated.
“Okay, now have you talked to Katie about this?” she asked me.
“No, she is next.” I said.
“Alright, love peace and chicken grease.” She said to me.
“Goodbye to you to Miranda.” And then I hung up the phone.
2 down 1 more to go….could I convince Katie?
I dialed her number and waited again for the phone to ring.
“Hello?” she asked.
“Katie it’s me, Ashley.” I said.
“Oh, hey, what’s up?” she asked me.
“Do you think you’re up for a trip to volterra?” I asked her.
“What?” she asked me back. I then explained everything.
“wow.” She gasped.
“So, we are kind of pulling a ‘Bella’?” She asked me.
“If you mean by racing off to volterra in search of the Volturi, then yes, I guess we are.” I laughed.
“Alright, if you already mailed the tickets I’ll pack. I still can’t believe this; do you think all of us are going insane? What if we don’t find anything?”
“If we don’t find anything at least we had a nice trip to Italy.” I said.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right. See you in a few days then.” She said, and then she hung up the phone as I did the same.
We were all going to volterra. I skipped to my room to fiddle with the equipment. Then it dawned on me.
We were all going to volterra, to see the Volturi. And if we find them….we will be humans that now already know way too much…..
