"She deserves a second chance with someone better!" I heard Rosalie snarl. Her voice sounded like nails on a chalkboard as she continued, "That filthy mutt doesn't deserve her!"
I looked over at Jacob, his eyes suddenly becoming pained. I glided over to him and wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling it forward. "Don't listen to them, Jake. I love you-"
I was interrupted. Again, my aunt was raising her voice. "She belongs with someone else!"
"I agree," my father growled.
"NO, SHE DOESN'T!" This was my mother, and I was shocked. She never raised her voice before. "I cannot believe you two!" I assumed she was talking about Edward and Rosalie. "Have you not seen how happy Jacob makes her?! She loves him and there is no way, even if you tried, that she would ever date someone else. She wouldn't even give them a second glance, because Jacob is the one she is in love with."
My smile lightened, as did Jacob's, and I felt now was the appropriate time for Jacob and I to go in. I grabbed his hand, and we silently walked up the steps. I pulled the door open, and all of the screaming stopped. Everyone in the room turned to look at us, or our intertwined hands, with mixed feelings on their faces. Jacob let go of my hand, and for a moment I looked up at him with a sad face. He smiled down at me, wrapping his arm around my waist.
"Hey Jake, Nessie." Alice 's voice frightened me and our eyes snapped to hers. She smiled back at me, even as everyone in the room, except the three of us, were frozen.
"Explain," I growled angrily, my eyes focused entirely on my father. Jacob went stiff next to me, so I rubbed his hand with mine.
I realized that only my father, Rosalie, and my mother were standing-- aside from Alice, Jacob, and I. Rosalie leaned against the wall with her arms crossed over her chest, an angry, expectant gaze directed to my father dawning on her face. My father stood in the middle of the room, with his fingers pinching his nose. He closed his eyes slightly. My mother stood next to him, whispering into his ear. Her hand was on his shoulder and her other hand was on his waist. Alice straightened next to me and danced to Jasper, plopping down into his lap. He wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her neck. Esme and Carlisle sat on the loveseat, holding hands. Emmett was sitting in the chair next to Rosalie, his eyes amused and focused on Jacob.
"I'm not standing here for my health," I growled again.
Edward opened his eyes and they snapped over to me, anger rising in the black pits that were his pupils. "How dare you talk to me like that!"
A growl formed in Jacob's chest and I threw him a glance, shaking my head in anger. My eyes traveled to my father's again. "How dare you two talk about my Jacob like that!" I growled back, switching my gaze to Rosalie.
My father's eyes, and everyone else's, snapped to mine. I hadn't realized I had said my Jacob until they all looked at me with an amazed, puzzled expression. Jacob squeezed my waist tighter and I looked up at him; he was smiling.
"You heard what I said correctly," I snarled, focusing on Rosalie to make sure she would here me and finally get it through her thick skull. "He is mine, and I am his."
My father shook his head fiercely, almost looking like he was having a seizure. Rosalie growled back at me and dropped her arms. She glided forward to me and then pushed Jacob's arms away from my body. He fell back into the wall from the force and I looked back at him to make sure he was okay. Rosalie's face was hovering inches from mine, and I could feel her uneven and angry breaths on my neck. I turned to her, the black orbs I didn't want to see piercing my heart in a way that I couldn't identify.
"You don't know what you're talking about," she growled.
I huffed, crossing my arms over my chest. I knew that she didn't like Jacob--it was obvious. But, the fact that she would take my happiness away from me for her own greedy needs, made me wanted to scream and rip her hair out. I did neither as I pushed her away from me carefully. I held my hand out behind me for Jacob, and as soon I felt his warm hand against mine, I shifted us away from Rosalie. We glided past her, until I felt him stop. I looked over at him and realized Rosalie had his arm in a vice grip.
"Let go of him," I growled loudly, pulling Jacob away from her.
And the look she got on her face made me highly aware that the look on mine had scared her.
My lips were curled over my teeth as I snarled at her, pulling Jacob and warning her. If she hurt him, I would kill her. There was no doubt in my mind that I wouldn't hurt her. No matter who it was, if they harmed my Jacob, they would be harmed even worse.
She let go of his arm as my snarls grew louder, and I got closer to her. Jacob's soft groan of pain made my eyes snap to his arm. There was a bruise forming in the shape of a hand print on his arm. My eyes snapped to Rose's as she backed away from me. I let go of Jacob and snarled even more at her, angry. She had hurt him, something that pissed me off to a point of no return. My snarls and growls had to be frightening the whole family, because soon, there was a chorus of shouts telling Rosalie to get away from me and telling Jacob to get me away from her.
Jacob gripped my arm in his hands but I ripped it away, moving closer as Rosalie backed away.
"How many times do I have to tell you to keep your fucking hands off of him!" I snarled, my fists clenching.
She knew exactly was happening when she gripped my wrists, halting me to a stop. Jacob ran up behind me and gripped my arms behind my back, pulling me towards him. I couldn't control the angry growls that ripped from my chest as I thrashed in his arms and stared at her, daring her to make a move.
"Stop, Renesmee!" Bella yelled, but I didn't hear her. I was still snapping my teeth and thrashing in Jacob's arms as I willed him to let go of me so I could wrap my hands around Rosalie's dirty neck.
"Nessa, baby, calm down. I'm okay," Jacob whispered, his nose trailing down my neck.
It was only then that I was pulled back into reality. My snarls and growls slowed down and got quieter, and soon they stopped. It was his voice that calmed the animal in me, his touch that ignited the fire that burned the walls of ferocity in my heart. I looked up at him and he smiled down at me, his fingers lightly gliding over my hips. I sighed contently and laid my head against his chest, looking over at Rosalie.
"Sorry," I whispered to her, as Jacob's arms snaked around my waist and held me tightly to him.
She nodded, looking up at Jacob and saying, "I'm sorry, Jacob." He smiled at her, no doubt, and then she looked down at me. "I'm sorry for hurting him."
I nodded back, and then looked over at my stunned family. "Sorry," I whispered once again, mostly to Jasper, who was fuming in the corner. Alice was whispering in his ear, most likely calming him down, and I felt bad, because I knew my anger had affected him.
"We have a guest," Esme spoke suddenly.
My cheeks burned with embarrassment at the display that had just seen. I had to make sure to tell them that it wasn't how I usually was. I smiled at her, a gesture for her to introduce them.
Jacob growled behind me. "Only I can call her Nessa," he warned.
"My apologies, sir."
I wasn't paying an attention to them, however. My eyes were on the guest's deep blue orbs. I knew this tan man, his golden hair, his long body. I couldn't register from where I had remembered him, until he smiled.
I knew who it was immdediately.
This was the man who had come with Alice and Jasper when my family and I were in the clearing with the Volturi. This was the man had charmed me when I was a little girl. This was the only other hybrid I had ever met.
And as I focused my eyes on him, not even aware of Jacob's breath on my neck, a spark fired off in my heart.
