Bella's POV

The clicking of my shoes echoed through the halls as I made my way to my Fathers chambers. Or course there were two buff looking body guards there. I knew George but I couldn't identify the other on the left side of the door. I walked straight up to them both and was going to continue forward but was stopped by the new comer.

"Excuse me; you cannot pass with out an ID." He pushed me back while reciting this.

"Excuse me: you are no one to question me when I wish to pass into my FATHER'S chambers." I hissed at him. He looked apologetic and George just laughed as I pushed him out of my way. I barged right into the room and saw my father lounging in his bed.

"Don't be so lazy!" I scolded as I continued to the right side of his bed.

"Aw, Bella, It is always a pleasure to see my favorite daughter!" He exclaimed and held out his arms to me. I bent over and hugged him gently.

"Father, about this mission..." I looked down at my feet while talking. "I don't think I should go." After a couple of seconds to build up my courage, I looked up at his shocked expression.

"But Bella, you practically begged me to put you on it with your sisters. Why the sudden change of mood?" He asked curiously.

"I know, but I just don't think I should go anymore." I answered quietly. My eyes fell back down to my feet when I heard him sigh. I waited for his response, until it hit me with surprise.

"Isabella, is this about Edward Cullen?" I could feel my cheeks heat up when he said Edward's name. He gasped in shock.

"Isabella! Tell me you haven't fallen in love with that boy!" My father begged me. I looked up at him with apologetic eyes. Another gasp slipped through his lips. Then anger painted over his face.

"Father, please-" But he cut me off.

"Isabella Swan, you are never to see that boy again!" I could feel my face drop. The words I prayed would never come to life did.

"Father, I love him." I protested. But this only made things worse. He was standing up before me in a flash, his head bent over above me.

"How could you fall for that? He has no title, no honor. He almost killed you!" I looked up at him, now my anger taking over.

"Don't talk about him like that! It was an accident! And besides, no one got hurt. I'm perfectly fine!" I continued to protest.

"No! I will not have my daughter, the only heir I have produced, to be with a CULLEN!" His words cut deep. I knew the only reason he objected was because of that.

"Is that all I am to you, an heir?" My tone of voice became a lot calmer, softer. His face dropped with guilt. He sat down on the edge of his bed and stared at his feet.

"Family always comes first, Bella. Not some outcast Cullen. But..." I looked at him, hope filled up in my soul. He looked up at me and smiled softly. I smiled back and hugged him tightly.

"I love you." I whispered in his ear. In response, he kissed my forehead softly. When our embrace ended, I turned for the door, when his voice stopped me in my tracks.

"Bella, you still have to go on this mission. No refusals. You're going." I took that in slowly, and then continued out of the room. I rushed through the halls to where Edward's guest room was. He had insisted for his own room this time. I skipped to his door and knocked quietly. He opened it without looking at me.

"Edward, I wanted to say goodbye before we left." I told him quietly, looking down at the floor. He didn't answer. I looked up to witness his shocked face staring down at me.

"You're leaving today?" The pain was clear in his voice and sent my heart in a plummet.

"Edward..." I began but was stopped by a small sob coming from deep in his chest. I looked up in shock to hear such a sound. He looked as though he could have been crying. My arms wrapped around his chest. I didn't care if he was still mad at me. I had to comfort him. It was my fault after all, that he was feeling this way. And I didn't want to leave him. I could feel tears coming down my cheeks; I didn't want to leave him. The moisture from my tears formed wet spots on his shirt, but he didn't seem to care. Instead of pushing me away in anger or rejection, his arm held my tightly to him. I didn't want to leave him. But I had to.

I stretched up on my tiptoes and kissed him gently. His mouth softened under mine and I knew this was our last moment together. I had to make it last before walking away. Neither of us broke the kiss, so I wrapped my arms around his neck, let my fingers in tangle his hair. Edward grabbed at my waist and held me tighter to him. We continued our embrace, even when the tears began to spill over onto my cheeks again. He was first to break our embrace, but we both didn't say anything. We just stood there, so close to each other, staring into the other's eyes. I would treasure this moment for the rest of my life. Then I pecked his cheek and slid away from his extended arms and turned to walk back to my sister's room, not looking back one second.
