"Who were you talking about when you said the bloodsuckers?"

"The Cullens. Apparently, they don't hunt humans but that doesn't change what they are. Their scent is sickeningly sweet. You'll know what I mean when you smell it. Anyway, Bella is dating one of them. You should have seen her when he first left, it was terrible. I tried to help her but she has this creepy attachment to them and went running back to him. Oh yeah, he reads minds, one of the others can see the future, and someone else can control emotions. I don't care enough to remember their names." I sat quietly and listened intently as he vented that information.

"Where do they live? Here in La Push?"

He shook his head bitterly. "No, in Forks nearby. There is a treaty that they cross a certain line into La Push. They also can't bite any human. Not kill, bite."

"Okay, got it. Anything else?" He smiled happily and shook his head.

"No, that's about it. Where are you staying?" That took me back a bit. I hadn't thought about that.

"I… I don't know. My car?" He chuckled and shook his head.

"No, no. I can't let you sleep in your car. Let me run over to Emily's. I'm sure that she'll let you stay at her place."

"Okay. Thanks," I said and smiled. His eyes sparkled when I smiled and my heart rate sped up.

"No problem. I'll be right back. You'll be okay here, right?" I nodded. He smiled and left.

I sat there, looking around, when there was the distinct sound of obnoxious boys' voices and a knock on the frame of the garage.

"Hey, is Jake in there?" the more muscular guy asked.

"Nah, he just left to go ask Emily something," I responded, noticing and hating the way he was looking at me.

"Ah, I see. Well, could we come in and wait for him to come back? Surely he wouldn't leave such a pretty girl here alone for a long time," he crooned as he strode in and leaned on the hood of the Rabbit, looking at me intently.

"You're already in, so does it make a difference?" I asked with a sarcastically sweet tone.

"Ha ha, she's got an attitude. I like it," he commented to the other guy who was more cautiously standing by the car. He smiled apologetically in my direction. "Hey honey, what's your name?"

If I didn't rip this guy a new asshole soon, I was going to go crazy. "Allianna." I made my response clipped and to the point.

"Gorgeous. Sexy even," He said, trying hard to 'seduce' me. "I'm Paul."

"You're gonna be faceless by the time I'm done with you," I heard Jake's husky voice say.

"Whoa man, cool it. Didn't touch her," Paul said as he backed away, hands in the air.

"Didn't have to." I looked over at Jake, who's eyes were rampant with rage as he glared at Paul, and noticed how his expression drastically softened when he looked over to me.

"Emily said that you could stay in the extra bedroom there, okay?" I blushed and smiled then quickly bit my lip in embarrassment.

"Thanks, Jake."

"No problem," he said, smiling back brightly.

"Whoo, what is this?" Paul shouted tauntingly. Jake shot him a death glare that clearly said 'Drop it now!' "Fine, fine man! Cool it. We just dropped by on our way to the cliffs to let you know that Sam wanted to talk to you."

"Okay, got the message. Now get lost, Paul."

"Whatever man. You know, you're acting really fucked up today," Paul said as he walked out. The other not far behind.

"See ya Jake," he called back.

"Bye Embry." Jake sighed and shook his head before sitting on the ground against the car.

"What's wrong?" I asked as I got up to sit down close to him on the ground.

He shook his head," Nah, I'm ok. Just trying to calm down from my sudden urge to beat the living shit outta Paul. The way he looked at you, I just – ugh! Fucking bastard."

A tremor rolled off of his body, so I gently placed my hand on his muscular forearm. Even though we were the same temperature, I could feel the intense heat he was radiating. I could feel his body relax under my touch and he took a deep breath.

"Breathe Jacob. It's fine. I was already planning to rip him a new one until you came back." He calmed down a bit more and chuckled.

"You're something, you know that? Tell me 'bout you," he said.

"Like what? What do you want to know?"

"Anything. Um… When were you born?"

"March 8, 1990."

"Where?"

"Corpus Cristi, Texas."

"Cool. Where all have you lived?"

"Um… Corpus Cristi, Nashville briefly, then back to Texas. Austin, actually. Which is where I came from."

"Your favorite school subject?" He asked with a laugh.

"This is turning into 20 questions. Oh goodness, I would have to say Spanish. I got to Spanish 3 and was actually pretty good at it. You?"

"Ugh, I'm terrible in school. Straight D's and F's. Soo… I'm gonna go with study hall." We both laughed.

"Straight A's and one B. GPA was 4.2."

"No shit. Wanna share some smarts?" He asked giving the worst wink ever. I busted into laughs. Being with him was so easy, so natural. I'd never been able to be like this with anyone I just met. He was plain amazing.
