Dear Edward, I have finally gotten over you No, that won’t work. Dear Edward, It’s been 3 years now. You never returned. How do you tell your high school sweetheart, the man you stole your heart never to return it, the man who obsessed over keeping you safe, the man who left you broken in a forest because he did not love you anymore…how do you tell him that that you are finally over him and moving on, kinda-sorta. How do you tell him if he’s moved away with his family and you have no way to contact him? You write his sister’s husband, that’s how! What happens if Edward really never returned and Bella went on with her life? What happens if she was able to get over Edward, leave Forks, go to college, and make a life of her own? Would his heart break if he knew she was over him and could surive without him? Would she ever see him again? What about is family-could she really live with out her best friend, forever? What about the wolves? Jake? And oh, dear....what about Victoria?? This story takes place after Edward left. Bella POV

“Alice, NO!”

“Bella, it’s just a dress.”

“Just a dress?! It’s skin tight, pushes my boobs up to my chin, and has a slit up ¾’s the length of my thigh!”

“It’s fashion.”

“For a stripper named Candy or Cupcake at Big Bob’s Big Boobs.”

“Bella, you are so melodramatic.” She rolled her eyes; classically Alice. She held a crème colored, sleeveless, satin dress with a cowl neck (I only knew that because I actually liked cowl neck sweaters) that came to my knees and a slit so high that if I sat down EVERYONE would see my “virtue”.

“Alice, are you dressing me for anyone in particular? Because if you are, I’m not going. I swear to you, Alice if you are I will not forgive you.” I watched her reflection in the mirror. Her face was apologetic.

“Bella, really I just thought it was cute and would totally accentuate all your curves. It wasn’t meant to impress anyone. Although, if you were to put it on, I would be thoroughly and gleefully impressed.” I smiled because I knew she was sincere.

“Alice, no. It’s just not going to happen.”

“Oh, come on now Bella! After this long, you have to give me something.” There was no way her resolve was going to lessen.

“You know I’m going to give in don’t you?”

“Precisely. And it will happen in 3…2…”

“Fine ALICE!”

“See, told you.”

“You can dress me, just not in that.”

“Ok, then.” She said as she sat down at the top of my bed where all my new clothes were strewn.

“What do you like?” I gazed over all of the clothes through their reflection in the mirror, twice. I turned away from the mirror and walked slowly over to the bed biting my bottom lip.

“How about the blue tank, the black sweater-jacket thingy, the jeans, and the black boots?” my voice went a little high at the end. I wasn’t sure about the shoes.

“Bella? Wow, what has happened to you? Since when did you develop a sense of fashion?” She got up and put her hand to my head. “Well, no fever.”

“Like you would be able to tell,” I said sarcastically.

“Just because we are colder than you, doesn’t mean we can’t feel changes in your body temperature. Anyway, back to the important stuff. It’s a bolero, not sweater jacket thing and yes it works with the tank and jeans. But boots?? Really? I need to take you to New York for fashion week next year. We’ll make a weekend of it. You will wear the black strappy heels. They are in the big black bag at the end of your bed on the floor.” I bent over and picked up the bag-with extraordinary human effort.

“Alice, just exactly how many pairs of shoes are in this bag? I said looking into it as I placed it on the end of the bed.

“Not many-just a dozen. And those are only the fall shoes. I still haven’t given you your winter or spring shoes.”

“Allliiicce,” I groaned loudly.

“Oh, just deal with it Bella and trust me!”

“Fine, but I have another question for you, which pair of black strappy heels? There are 3.”

“You’ll look best in the Prada’s,” she said confidently.

“Prada makes shoes? I thought they only did purses.”

“Oh my innocent not-so-fashionable sister. You have so much to learn. The matching purse is in the purple bag. It’s next to where you found the shoes.”

“Alice, was there anything in the stores you didn’t buy?”

“Actually yes, a pair of Uggs. I don’t know what people were thinking when they designed those. They are anything but fashionable.” She was off my bed hanging up my clothes. She put my outfit for tonight on a hook near the door. She pulled out a small cosmetics bag out of her tote bag.

“Alice, what are you doing? What’s that?” She sat down on the edge of my bed and pulled out my desk chair and faced it towards her. She patted it as an invitation to sit down.

“I told you: a makeover! It’s all encompassing-total and complete. And part of a makeover is a mani and pedi. Plus, since you are wearing those heels, you need color on your toes.” She was so proud and happy, I couldn’t deny her.

“Am I going to be able to walk in those heels?” I said walking over and sitting on the chair. She pulled my foot up to her lap and proceeded to lotion and massage it. Ok, so maybe this wasn’t such a bad idea after all.

“I see a small trip when you walk down the stairs here, but that’s the only thing you have to be worried about. You’ll be fine,” she said as she concentrated on my feet. She pulled a bottle of nail polish out of her bag and started to open it.

“What color?” She turned the bottle towards me to show me.

“You have got to be kidding me Alice. Seriously, blood red? You have a sick sense of humor.”

“Hey! Red is a staple in anyone’s nail polish collection. It’s classic. I thought you would be able to appreciate that, what with your taste in cars and all that.” I started to kick my foot up to her face. I knew it wouldn’t hurt her. After moving it slightly, she put her hand on it to hold it down. “Don’t you move. You’re going to make me paint your foot instead of your toes if you don’t stop. After your toes are done, I’ll do a French manicure on your fingers and while they dry I’ll do your hair. Then you’ll get dressed and we’ll be off.”

“You want me to stay as still as a vampire?” I joked.

“Bella with you, that’s impossible.” I glared at her while she finished my toes.

She finished my makeover and forced me to look in the mirror. I was afraid to see exactly what he had done.

She told me to close my eyes and walked me towards the mirror. She moved my hands to brace against her shoulders as she slipped my shoes on and buckled them. They couldn’t have put me more than 2 inches off the ground. Alice was good. She knew better than to make me wear a pair of stilettos. She fluffed my hair with her hands and some hair spray. She applied a tingly lip gloss and sprayed a sweet scented perfume on me.

“Do I really need that?” It was almost comical. Were they trying to make me not so appetizing?

“It sort of dilutes your scent for Jasper. It makes you smell like roses and vanilla.” I understood, but part of me couldn’t help but wonder if she was diluting my scent so when Edward came home, he would have no idea I was there.

“I only smell roses.”

“You also aren’t a vampire. Ok, are you ready?”

“I don’t know, am I?”

“Take a deep breath and open your eyes.” I was anxious to see what she had done. I slowly raised my eyelids.

There I stood, about 2 inches higher in dark denim designer bootcut jeans, a blue tank with a lace insert at the top and lace bordering, a black cashmere bolero that wrapped around my shoulders and the upper part of my arms but was only as long as my waist. The shoes had a thick heel with 3 sets of straps that crisscrossed over the top of my foot, each with it’s own buckle and a strap across the ankle. They were shiny like patent leather. I had to admit, my red toenails looked good peeping out of them. Alice deserved all the credit. I looked at my face and saw someone I didn’t recognize.

I was wearing a soft mauve lip gloss, a hint of rose on my cheeks, light brown eyes shadow on the bottom and a hint of berry eye shadow on top, black eyeliner, and my lashes were black and longer than I ever could have imagined possible. Alice had put in silver and diamond dangle earrings and a silver necklace with a heart pendant with which rested on left heart loop on the chain and had a significant-sized diamond in the opposite end. I pulled my hand up to my neck.

“Alice it’s gorgeous!”

“They are from the family. Yours to keep. You’re Welcome.”

“Alice, they are too much. I can’t keep these!” I tried to plea with her so I could give them back. There was no way I could keep something like that.

“Yes you can. It’s a gift and you will deal with it.”

“Fine And thank you.” I said to her reflection in the mirror.

“You should flip it over. We engraved it.” I rolled my eyes at her for what had to be the 30th time today.

I leaned into the mirror so I could read the inscription on the back, even if it was backwards.

(reversed) Love of family is life’s greatest blessing. We love you Bella ~The Cullens~

My heart sank and was filled with pure love and joy. My eyes began to well up quickly.

“Don’t you dare start crying Isabella Swan!” I chuckled and sniffled holding back my tears.

“I don’t want to have to fix your make-up.”

I started to fan my face trying to calm myself and hold back the tears when I noticed my hair. The top half was pulled back in a French bun with curls cascading out of it. The bottom half was filled with the same type of curls. They were bouncy and soft. My hair was bright and shined. For a moment, I thought it actually sparkled so I moved my head back and forth in the slight light coming through the window blinds.

“You always did want to sparkle,” She laughed to herself. I touched my hair with my palm and pulled it back looking at it. It was covered in glitter.

I looked at her with a joking sneer. “You sprinkled glitter in my hair?”

“Nope, I sprayed it in.” Now you’re just like us, you sparkle in sunlight.”

“Very funny, Alice. Very funny. Now how do I get it out?” I asked looking around for a brush to get some of it out. She looked at me like I just broke her heart.

“What? Alice, you can’t expect me to go to dinner at your house with glittered hairspray?” I huffed.

“The family will love it. They’ll think it’s endearing” She swayed from side to side with golden puppy dog eyes pleading with me but knowing I would do it anyway.

“Alice Cullen, you are the most dangerous little vampire I have ever met.” I let out a reluctant and surrendering sigh.

“I know. Now, let’s go. They’re waiting.” She grabbed my hand and we were out the door. She was right, I slightly tripped down the stairs on the 3rd step, but she caught me and we kept going. We walked out the door and to her car, a deep sparkling purple Aston Martin. We were stared at as we walked to the car.

As we got to the car she looked at me and said, “They’re looking at you, not me.”

“No, they’re looking at the car wanting to know why two female college students are driving it.”

“Touché.” We laughed as we hopped in and within seconds the engine was roaring and we were off.

We sped to the Cullen’s new home in classic Cullen style. I always wondered how many houses they owned and how big they were. It did not take long to get to the house. Then again, we were travelling at Cullen speed in a fast Cullen car and a Cullen was driving. Arriving at your destination in two minutes was normal.

What I had envisioned for their house was almost exactly what now saw; 2 stories, modern and airy with lots of wood, metal, and windows-breathtaking and of course surrounded by a dense forest of trees. Both floors were covered in windows separated by panels outlined in wrought iron and a wood that had a deep red tint to it, had to be cherry. There were lights on inside which seeped through ten-feet tall window panes. It was gorgeous; almost awe-inspiring. I heard a door open, and before 1 human could have walked through the door, 5 Cullens were standing on the side of the wooden porch. All were smiling at me-minus one, Rosalie. She wasn’t grimacing, but she didn’t have that c’mon in-look either.

Carlisle was the first one down the steps as Alice parked in front of the rather large garage. I think Charlie’s house is as big as the garage. He opened my door and held out his hand to help me out. As I stepped out I heard a bunch of male whistles and a rather loud “OW! Rose!” I wondered if Emmett would learn his lesson.

“Bella. It is so good to see you,” Carlisle said as he hugged me close. “We have missed you very much.” I smiled back at him as I was pulled from his arms and crushed into Emmett’s.

“I knew you smelled delicious, Bella but damn! I didn’t know you could look it!” He then howled like a wolf. I wondered what Jake would think of me looking like this right now-all dressed up to impress the Cullens. At the end of that thought, I caught his head pulling back and his hands brushing something off his chin. Sparkles.

“And you sparkle! See, you’ve always been one of us. At least now you look like us and you can still make life exciting.”

“Rose, C’mon!” He released me and went after her as she sped back into the house. I only knew this because I saw the house tremble as the front door slammed. Next was Jasper. He stood behind Alice.

“Hey Bella. You look amazing.” He was scared to come near me, so he stayed next to Alice.

“Yeah, thanks to your wife.”

“Bella,” she chimed, “you always looked amazing. I just brought it out a little.” I rolled my eyes at her and looked at Jasper.

“Don’t I get a hug?”

He looked really concerned.

“Jazz, ask Alice.”

Alice turned around to face him and winked. “Jasper, it’s ok. There will be no trouble tonight, from anyone.” He kissed his wife and walked over to me.

I walked over to him and wrapped my arms around him. He wasn’t breathing so I felt safe in putting my chin on his shoulder.

I started to whisper to him: “Jasper, it wasn’t your fault. None of it. Don’t beat yourself up over it, please. For me. Even if it was I would have forgiven you. And because I know you will still believe it’s your fault, I’ll say it anyway. I forgive you.” He took the last bit of breath he had in his lungs to say “Thank you, Bella.”

It wasn’t until she spoke that I knew Rosalie was back outside standing on the porch.

“Hello, Bella. You look well.” I pulled away from Jasper and he was back at Alice’s side before I had a chance to walk up the stairs toward her.

“Thanks Rosalie. You look well, too. Well, you always did.” She have me a “duh” smile. And then surprised the hell out of me by pulling me into a hug. Stunned, I kept my hands at my side for most of it.

“Thank you for what you said to Jasper. He’s been beating himself up for the past 3 years. Maybe now he’ll stop sulking.” I patted her on the back and said, “I just spoke the truth.”

It was a very quick hug and the rest of the family joined us on the porch as Rosalie and I separated. They all heard my stomach growl and chuckled.

“Come on Bella. Let’s get you inside so you can eat.” Esme put her hand on my back to usher me in through the threshold.

“It smells amazing in here! Carlisle, what did you make?” The fruity sweet smell was almost as overwhelming as it was mouthwatering.

“I decided we would pay tribute to the end of summer. We’re, um, you’re having Caribbean: grilled chicken with a honey glaze and mango cranberry chutney, bodie they are like green beans, and white rice soaked in a curry, pineapple, and chicken broth and fruit salad; watermelon, honeydew, mango, papaya, strawberries, and pineapple.”

“Oh my god Carlisle!” I my mouth was watering.

“Oh, and Esme made pineapple-mango-lime cheesecake for desert. Of course you are welcome to all the leftovers and can take as much home as you like.” Carlisle was saying all this while walking me through the foyer into the kitchen.

“Or you can leave it here for the next time you come back.” Esme cleverly suggested as we walked from the kitchen towards the backdoor. There was hope in her voice. “And if you ever need a home cooked meal, we’d be more than happy to make it for you. That cafeteria food is atrocious and I don’t’ know how they get way with feeding that to the students. This is your house too and you don’t’ ever have to want for anything. Anything you want, need, or desire.”

“My house too,” I half laughed.

“Bella,” I heard an stern Alice move from behind me to beside me and I lost my train of thought.

“Alright, alllll right Alice. I’ll try to stop being so moved and emotional about your generosity. Excuse me for feeling!” I said sarcastically.

“Carlisle, Esme, everyone-thank you so much for opening up your home to me like this. It is so very generous. Oh! And thank you so much for the jewelry. You really shouldn’t have,” I said this while toying with the pendent moving the pendant up and down the thin filigree chain.

I stopped playing with it and it lay on my chest almost directly across from my beating heart. Out of the corner of my eye I saw purple, orange, yellow, pink, and green paper lanterns strung above the back deck. Terror shot through me. I looked at Alice and felt a substantial wave of calm float over me. Alice walked towards me with pleading in her eyes and put her hands over my cheeks.

“Relax, they are just lights for the deck. No parties I promise-and no paper that you have to open, swear. We were going to eat outside on the deck, even bought a patio set, and needed some lighting for when it got dark. But if you don’t want to eat outside, we don’t have to. We really don’t. It’s ok.”

I closed my eyes and swallowed hard and tried to calm my galloping heart. I took a deep breath and put my hands over hers. “Sorry, I just—I remembered—I’m ok. I just freaked out a little bit.”

“Do you want me to go buy you some sporks? Those things are safer than anything. If it will make you feel better, I’ll even feed you.”

I glared at her and my face turned red in embarrassment, “Alice, I’m not a baby. I think I can feed myself.”

“Awww it’s baby Bewwa,” was said from a few feet behind me. Alice took her hands down from my face and I turned toward Emmett behind me.

“Emmett, why don’t you go wrestle a shark?”

“Only if you come with me as bait!!”

“Emmett!” Esme gasped in disgust as Carlisle mockingly coughed to hide his laughter. I could only guess Esme would make him pay for that later because, well…vampires don’t cough.

“Only kidding, I swear.” Rosalie still slapped him on the back of the head, again.

“Ok, let’s settle down and go out to the deck for dinner. Bella, why don’t you go out back with the rest of the kids and Esme and I will bring out dinner, ok?” Carlisle said while patting my back.

We all walked out through the French doors to the back porch and took our seats. We sat a large, long, beveled glass table supported by bronzed metal. It was a beautiful color. I know it wasn’t intentional, but it reminded me of his hair. I don’t doubt they caught me staring at it and lightly running my fingers gently across the support underneath t. Alice got my attention by talking about taking a trip to Paris and Milan this summer and that we would love it. I had something to say about that.

A few seconds later Carlisle and Esme were there with dinner, well my dinner. I ate every single morsel that was on my plate; dinner and desert. There were leftovers, as apparently Esme cooks for a family of 7 when only 1 can eat and insisted that I go home with a plate and she’d keep the rest there for later. I was humbled by her love and thankful for the min-fridge and microwave in my room.

We sat outside as the sun set and talked about what we had been up to over the past few years. Emmett was hunting exotic animals a few times a year and was going to start a small personal training business. He was very much a people person and was very athletic, so it was a good fit for him, but his clients had my sympathies.

Jasper had started to “pose” as a Civil War researcher. I didn’t understand this in the beginning because I didn’t know he had been in the Civil War. Jasper-IN THE CIVIL WAR! He was assisting Civil War museums as an intern and helped to ascertain certain artifacts or facts of the war that no one else knew about.

Alice was a personal shopper and interior designer. It gave her an excuse to shop and fly around the world for the latest in fashion and style. Carlisle was still treating patients as a doctor in the ER and helping Esme and Rose with their latest projects. He was also helping teach the medical students when he worked nights. Esme, of course, was rehabbing houses and designing new buildings. Her newest project was designing a new cancer research lab for Rosalie. Now that one threw me.

Rosalie had gone to visit Carlisle at the hospital one night. He was in the pediatrics wing checking on a patient that was brought into the ER the night before. As she started to turn a corner she could hear a little boy, not more than 10, crying. She walked down the hall and saw him sitting alone in the playroom at an art table. She leaned against the door frame as the tears were just streaming down his little cheeks. He was drawing a picture, in crayon, of a little brown dog.

“Hey cutie,” she called.

The boy looked towards Rose and his lips started to tremble and he started to cry harder. She didn’t know how to handle his reaction so she walked over to him slowly and knelt down at the opposite end of the table looking straight at him as his gaze followed her.

“What’s wrong cutie?”

“A-a-a-re y-y-ou an an an angel?” He took in gasps of air as he tried to get his sentence out.

“No honey, I’m not an angel.” You had to figure the kid right on-blonde hair, light skin, alluring smile. “And why would an angel make you cry and scared like this?”

“Because mommy says that one day an angel is going to come and take me to heaven to be with memaw.” He wiped the tears off his cheeks with the back of his hands.

“Well today is not that day, cutie. I’m not here to take you anywhere.”

“Good because I don’t want to die yet.” His bottom lip pouted out and his chin trembled as he looked down at his brown puppy.

Rose said her heart broke that day. Through her conversation with the boy, she found out that he was fighting going to sleep because his mother told him when the angel came, it would be just like he was asleep, and he just wouldn’t wake up. She colored few pictures with him as they sat there and talked about animals, girls, video games, his favorite cartoons, toys, and movies. Around 1 a.m., she could tell he was starting to doze off when his head bobbed down as he would fall asleep and up as he tried to fight it. She scooped him up and wheeled his IV stand over to the corner with the rocking chair and rocked him to sleep.

Rose had always wanted to be mom, but never had the chance. This was partially filling a hole in her heart, a void in her life that she would never be able to fulfill. She cradled him in her arms and laid her head back on the chair and watched him sleep. She thought he was very pale, even for a human. He had dark purple and black bruises under his eyes, a bald-head, he was thinner than he should have been, and so weak. No one knew how he had the strength to stay awake that long that night.

She had been rocking him for 23 minutes when his heart started to slow, then just stopped. Rose started to open her mouth to call for Carlisle when a hand on her shoulder stopped her. Carlisle’s face was calm but his eyes were filled with sorrow, pity, and sadness. He slightly shook his head from left to right.

“There’s nothing we can do for him, Rose. It was just his time.” Rose became very quiet after telling that story. I knew she was crying inside, as was Esme and Alice. Emmett wrapped his body around her consoling her and I wiped the tears from my cheeks with the back of my hand.

Her story ended with her taking the boy, Dylan, back to his room across from the playroom and laying him down on the bed and pulling the covers up to his chin. It did look like he was just sleeping. She kissed him on the forehead and ran into Carlisle’s arms that were waiting in the doorway. She shed sobbing dry tears for hours that night. When she got home, she was despondent for 2 days. Emmett was very worried about her and would not leave her side. Alice told everyone that Rose would be a changed woman when she came to.

When she came out of it, she had come to a decision; she was going to be a pediatric nurse. It worked well as she could just follow the example Carlisle had already set out. A part of this new venture was her determination to find a cure for cancer. She called it Dylan’s Cure. They had almost unlimited resources and with Rose’s determination, I was certain she would find it. Carlisle had pledged to help her as much as she wanted or needed, in the meantime one of the degrees she did not have was a Bachelor’s of Nursing, so she was in school for it. She could have easily had the documents forged, but she insisted on “doing this right”.

An unnamed person paid off all of Dylan’s medical bills the night he passed away. There was an article in the paper on it the next week. The last line of it read, “On behalf of Dylan, his mother, father, and baby sister we thank this generous angel for helping our family. You are a blessing to the world and an amazing human being. Thank you.” Rose was wrong; she was an angel, at least to Dylan.

I told them my story, although not as philanthropic or purpose-filled as theirs. I explained about my last run in with vampires and the wolves and kept quiet about who exactly they were only breaking half my promise. I purposely kept out the part about Sam finding me in the woods when he left me. It didn’t surprise me that they already knew about them so in reality I didn’t’ break any promise. Didn’t all sentient beings know about each other? Would a werewolf really say, “Oh, vampires? They don’t’ exist!”? It was long after the sun went down before anyone realized the time.

“Bella, dear, you’re shivering. Let me go get you a blanket,” Esme said gently commented. I started to decline and tell her I was alright when Alice interrupted.

“Actually Esme, I should probably get Bella back to the dorm. It’s 2 am and she has your class at 8. She, unlike us, needs sleep. I can’t have her getting bags or wrinkles under her eyes”

“Bella, I can excuse you from class if you wish. It wouldn’t be preferential treatment, because as outlined in the syllabus, you’ve cleared it with me first.” She said assuredly and secretively as if we were planning some covert ops mission.

I smiled widely and responded, “It’s ok Esme. Isn’t college all about late nights and early classes anyway?” As I started to get up, Alice interjected again.

“Bella! If you want you can stay here and we can drive you back in the morning. You can take mine and Jazz’s bed.” I scowled slightly in response then began to speak.

“You and Jazz have a bed? But you don’t sleep, what in the would you need a bed fo—oh. You know what, don’t answer that. Please. I don’t want to hear it. And I don’t think I’d be comfortable sleeping in a bed where…you know what never mind. Let’s just get me back to the dorm, ok?”

“What Emmett,” I asked as he grinned and held back a laugh.

“Well, Bells, sorry to break that virgin mind of yours, but what exactly do you think has been done on that bed in your dorm room? I mean c’mon, how many people have slept on that bed and how many people have slept with the people who slept on that—”

I put my hands over my ears “AHAHAHA LALALALALALA! Emmett shut up! SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!” The whole family was laughing. “I prefer not to know who did what on whose bed, thank you.”

He nudged Rose in the ribs, “Notice she didn’t deny the virgin part.”

I gave him the death glare. He put his hands up in surrender and apology, but was still laughing.

“Alright let’s get you home, Bella. But I should warn you, I saw us fixing up the guest room just for you so you have a place to stay when you come by.”

“I hate when you have visions like this-or ones that involve shopping and my wardrobe.” I said the last part under my breath and of course that did no good: vampire hearing.

“Bella, I know that you won’t deny me what makes me happy, setting you up with a room here, or otherwise-shopping included.” Damn pixie.

“Fine,” I huffed, “It’s not like I have enough strength to stop some of the richest vampires on Earth; especially sneaky little pixies who wouldn’t listen anyway.” She shrugged.

“Thank you! And we are going shopping in New York during Thanksgiving break. I saw it while you were eating dinner.”

I felt Jasper put his hands on my shoulders and whisper into my year, “Never bet against Alice.” Then he laughed.

I sighed, “I know. That’s my problem.”

“And if you want, I can buy you a new bed for the dorm, too.”

“Alice, don’t you think that’s going to look a little odd?”

“Who cares about what anyone else thinks?”

“Um…I do! I don’t want you to draw any attention.”

“Fine,” she was disgruntled and released our hug to fold her arms in frustration, “I’ll just suggest to the dean that ALL the dorms need new beds, just to be safe. I’m sure Carlisle can come up with some of the health benefits of a new bed and present them to him. ”

“Actually, after this conversation, that may not be a bad idea.” I couldn’t deny that they had a point and that I was going to go back to the dorm and wash my sheets, mattress pad, pillows, and cover my bed with some anti-bacterial spray…every side of it.

“Look at little sis getting all squeamish about sex.” I rolled my eyes at Emmett and walked away as his laughter echoed through the trees and scared all the birds out of them. I watched Alice kiss Jasper goodnight and then he hugged me goodbye. I told everyone goodbye with hugs and lots of kisses on my cheek and forehead. As cold as my body was from the temperature outside and being embraced by a bunch of dead vampires, I was warm.

As Alice and I walked out the door, Esme told me the offer for being excused was still on the table if I wanted to sleep in and I thanked her with another embrace. Alice drove me back to the dorm, told me she loved me and that she would see me tomorrow. I stumbled tiredly up the stairs and changed into a pair of brightly colored, striped capri pajama pants and sky blue tank, a gift from Renee before I left Forks.

As I got dressed, I reflected on the past 12 hours. I hadn’t realized that I kept all those feelings about Edward bottled up, way, way deep down. I had been hiding them from myself, telling myself I could move on without him (which I did, sort of) and live without him (again, sort of), and be happy without him (ok, I blatantly lied about that one).

I knew I loved him before and love him now, but was not ready to have him back in my life. I was too scared he would leave me again and I couldn’t, no wouldn’t survive that again. I almost didn’t survive it the first time. On the other hand, I knew his family, my family, wouldn’t abandon me. I didn’t want to be around when he was and was thankful that he would only be here for a few days. I just hoped that Alice would get a date/time a.s.a.p. I would take the suggestion from Esme and go visit mom or dad, but not at their expense…that was unless Alice covertly planned something else for me.

I stumbled over my own feet and landed comfortably in bed, my head on the pillow and the rest of me strewn across the sheets. Crap, my alarm. I dragged myself out bed to fish out my phone from my pants. Then it dawned on me, they were designer and deserved better than to just be flung on my floor.

After finding my phone, I hung them and my new shirt up. I, again, stumbled over to my bed, put my phone on the charger and set the alarm. A thought slipped into my mind; every time I start classes in a new city, I meet vampires. Granted they were the same ones, but every time and I could not be happier. A smile illuminated my sleepy face as I thought about my family. Unfortunately, there was still a slight pang in my heart from the hole that was smaller, but still there because my family was not complete.
