I screamed again, pain filling me up like glass of milk, brimming over the edge.

Why aren’t I dead?

I asked myself, so much pain really should kill you. But then it all just stopped, and I was just numb, but that eventually faded and I blinked, everything looked way too bright so I closed my eyes again.

“My god! She’s gorgeous!” I heard someone familiar whisper. It sounded a lot like… James! I sat bolt up right. I blinked and looked around, the bed I was in didn’t look familiar, Victoria was sitting at its foot, glaring at me. I turned my head and was amazed at how much difference it made to be…well, to be dead. James was grinning at me, I frowned, then gasped as it all came back to me. James grabbing me after he’d bit me, dragging me into a car, a black one, then us driving mega fast away, I could remember the pain, I shuddered and locked that memory away, like I would a bad dream.

“You really need to see what you look like” James said, excited

“Uhhh….why?” I asked, still a little slow from all that dying I’d been doing lately. James laughed and dragged me up to the full body length mirror. I stared at myself.

I had lost some weight, had proper curves now, I’d grown about an inch, my hair was still dark brown but it was not waist length and instead of being straight, it fell in beautiful, shiny locks.

My skin was paler, but not by much, just noticeable.

I seemed to be glowing a little bit. My lips were deep crimson and full, perfectly shaped eyes and eye brows. But the colour of my eyes was what startled me.

They were a startling icy blue that seemed to match my hair, I wondered what my hair would be like black, and suddenly it was. And it suited my hair beautifully. I heard James clap and chuckle behind my back. And suddenly my stomach rumbled and a doubled over in pain. James was by my side the next time I looked up.

“Food?” he grinned

“Animal” I said firmly. He rolled his eyes but nodded.

“Victoria, bring a couple of deer back” he called over his shoulder, I heard her growl slightly but she was gone from sight when we went back into the main bedroom.

“It appears you can change your appearance, but I’m sure that isn’t your only power, call it a feeling if you like.” James smiled, his burgundy eyes twinkling.

“I want Edward” I said sadly

“No, you don’t, you want to stay here, with us” he laughed at my expression “don’t try to get away, it wont do any good, they wont welcome you”

“You don’t know that…” I muttered half-heartedly, he was about to say something when Victoria walked through the door, a dear slung over her shoulder.

“I only brought one, I’ll teach her to hunt when she’s had this one” Victoria said, with a faint smile.

James smiled and nodded, I sunk my teeth into the deer’s neck and drank until it was dry.

Then I headed out with Victoria to learn how to hunt.
