Back through the years

I go wondering once again

Back to the seasons of my youth

I recall a box of rags that someone gave us

And how my Momma put the rags to use

There were rags of many colors

Every piece was small

And I didn't have a coat

And it was way down in the fall

Momma sewed the rags together

Sewing every piece with love

She made my coat of many colors

That I was so proud of

As she sewed, she told a story

From the bible, she had read

About a coat of many colors

Joseph wore and then she said

"Perhaps this coat will bring you

Good luck and happiness"

And I just couldn't wait to wear it

And Momma blessed it with a kiss

One autumn day, Bella Sarah Black was laying in her petite bed in the room she shares with her older brother, Billy Edward Black, when her mother, Renesmee Cullen-Black, came home with a box of rags that she got for free from Bella's grandparents on her mother's side of the family.

The next day, she asked, "What are you going to do with these rags, Momma?" Then, Nessie got an idea.

She said, "How about I make you a coat?"

All day that day while her mother sewed, Bella listened to her mother told a story from a bible she read about a coat of many colors Joseph wore with her father, Jacob, close by, and, when she was finished, she said, "Perhaps this coat will bring you good fortune and happiness !" Bella just couldn't wait to wear it at school tomorrow. Her mother kissed the sleeve of Bella's new coat, as if blessing it.

My coat of many colors

That my Momma made for me

Made only from rags

But I wore it so proudly

Although we had no money

I was rich as I could be

In my coat of many colors

My Momma made for me

Bella's coat of many colors was made only with rags and thread, but she wore it like it was made of solid gold. Although her family didn't have much money at the time, Bella Black felt like the richest child in the world in her coat of many colors that her mother made just for her.

So with patches on my britches

Holes in both my shoes

In my coat of many colors

I hurried off to school

Just to find the others laughing

And making fun of me

In my coat of many colors

My Momma made for me

Bella got dressed for school in her patched pants, worn shoes, and her special coat. She headed off to her school on the Quileute reservation. Her brother held her hand the entire way. When Bella's classmates saw her special coat, they laughed and made fun of her.

And oh I couldn't understand it

For I felt I was rich

And I told them of the love

My Momma sewed in every stitch

And I told them all the story

Momma told me while she sewed

And how my coat of many colors

Was worth more than all their clothes

Bella didn't understand. She felt like the luckiest girl on this planet in her special coat. She told them about the love her mother sewed in every stitch. Bella told them the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors, and how her special coat was worth more than all the gems in the whole world.

But they didn't understand it

And I tried to make them see

That one is only poor

Only if they choose to be

Now I know we had no money

But I was rich as I could be

In my coat of many colors

My Momma made for me

Made just for me

Bella's classmates didn't understand. She tried to make them see that you are only poor if you choose to be. Bella knew that her family didn't have much, but she was as rich as she could be in her special coat. Her coat will always remind her of her Momma. Bella's mother's glossy lipstick still stained the wrist of her coat of many colors like a blessing. Even when her parents acted like shape-shifter and human-vampire hybrid, she loved them, and they loved her. One day, she decided to add something to the coat. On the back, she wrote "Your only poor if you choose to be" in pale pink fabric pen. Bella will always love her parents, Jacob and Renesmee Black. Forever. Even when she married a pixie, she kept the old coat to give to her daughter, who would give it to her daughter, who would give it to her daughter, who would give it to her daughter, and so on. The coat will be cherished by the little girls of the Black family forever more thanks to Bella Sarah Black.
