"Well, I wouldn't want to intrude," I said hesitantly, kind of hoping that Bella would be there. I looked over at the guys when we walked out of the restaurant.
"Oh please! Rose will be happy to see you and Alice loves company!" Emmett exclaimed, punching me in the shoulder. I laughed.
"What about Bella? I mean, I assume that she is with the girls."
"Eh, Bella can tough it out," Emmett said with a grin, as he looked over at me again. "I promise you it won't be so bad. Besides, it's a Friday night. No one should even go to bed early. We're at Jasper's place. Just follow us."
I didn't even have a chance because the guys were walking to Emmett's truck and I rolled my eyes once again. I just hoped that I didn't just mess up things. That wouldn't be so good, especially since I worked at the same school as the beautiful Isabella Swan.
Oh my freaking – oh yeah, I was going to kill Emmett because this had both him and Jasper written all over it. Why the hell was Jacob Black here? I wanted to know which one of these two invited Jacob over here. He didn't belong here, at least with me being around. No, I just wanted to run and never turn back. I knew that Rosalie and Jacob were good friends but I never once liked Jacob while growing up or even when I was dating Edward.
"What is he doing here?" I grumbled when Emmett shut the door, as Jasper took the food out into the living room and Alice went to get silverware and drinks.
"They invited me, Bells."
When I saw that smirk on his face, I wanted to die, and when I saw Jasper's face, I knew that it was him. Jasper wasn't good at lying when he was in front of me.
"Jasper Hale, tell me you didn't!" I groaned as I stormed over to where he was sitting on the couch.
"Oh Bella, I'm sorry. Look, he lives alone, and eating alone – it's rather depressing," Jasper argued as he shook his head at Jacob. "You need a life, man. It's pathetic."
Jacob laughed over at Jasper, watching Alice come out with a little cooler that was filled up with ice, canned sodas, and bottled waters. "No. I think my life is pretty grand right now. I've got a good paying job, a good truck to drive, and I have half the population of the Fork High School teachers fawning my way. What more could I want in my life, anyways?"
I rolled my eyes as I took the only seat left, which happened to be right beside Jacob Black. Conceited, much? It was no wonder that he was a damaged soul.
"Jacob," Rosalie began as she opened up her container of food. She shook her head as she raised it to look over at him. "I think you are fooling yourself. You're basically hiding."
"I'm not hiding, Rose. I just don't see the point of even having a relationship or even being in one," Jacob said with a shrug, popping the orange can of soda open.
"You're hiding by being inside of all those girls and busying yourself with being a coach." [Who says this?]
Jacob sputtered out his food in his container and he flashed me a grin. "You just want to experience-"
"Whoa man, that's my sister," Emmett said as he glared at Jacob. "I don't need to have that disturbing image in my head."
I had a feeling that someone was going to stop me and I kind of wished that it had been Bella that had. Was it so bad that I wanted it to be her? I looked at Bella out the corner of my eye as Alice went on about the new job offer she received in Seattle. With her fast ass Porsche that she got from her father for graduating college, there was no doubt that she would make it there on time.
"It's so amazing," Alice gushed. "I get to show off my designs to Kate Deveraux. She's like so amazing! Can you believe it? I might be getting the dream job that I have wanted since I was five years old!"
We all knew about Alice's fashion sense, so everyone smiled and nodded. Jasper was beaming and I could tell that he was proud of his girlfriend. Those two had been dating for a while and it made me wonder if Alice was going to bug Jasper about getting married. I rolled my eyes at the thoughts in my head because this was so not like me. I guess whenever I was near Alice, I would be thinking such things.
Although, as I watched Bella eat her teriyaki and lo mein, I couldn't help but to look at her. She was so beautiful – much more beautiful than I had last seen her. I knew that from staring at her, I couldn't let her know about Bella's bitch ass ex boyfriend, who basically used her to string along. No girl deserved that. I knew that I was the type of guy to have a one night stand but I would never do that. I just didn't see what was so special about that Cullen kid.
"Hey, Bella, are you going to let me throw you a birthday party since you are back in town?" Alice asked with a huge smile as she took a sip of her Pepsi.
"Oh, your birthday's coming up?" I asked with interest as I looked over at her with a certain gleam in my eyes.
"Unfortunately, yes," she said as she looked away from me. She instead glared at Alice with a serious look on her face, crossing her arms over her chest. "I want a small birthday party, Alice. I don't need so much commotion or even gifts."
"Oh, Bella, Bella, please!" Alice whined as she batted her eyelashes at her.
"Hell fucking no. It's not happening, and if it is, I will walk out. You don't want that Alice, now, do you?" Bella asked as she looked at Alice with a shake of her head. "And I am not bluffing."
Alice pouted and frowned. "Emmett, can you talk to your sister?"
"Alice, I'm right here!" Bella snapped as she shook her head. "Look, it can just be us. You know after my last party, I'm not a party person."
I even remembered that because I had seen Edward leave to go to Tanya's. It had been Bella's birthday too. Yeah, Edward was a huge fuck up in my book, and I was going to make sure that Bella would never want anything to do with Edward Cullen. Even though she couldn't stand me, I was going to make sure of it. Somehow – well, she did deserve to know exactly what kind of guy Edward was.
I looked across to Alice and her eyes softened. "Bells, Edward's not here. C'mon… let me at least invite twenty people. Angela and Kate are in town for a few weeks. I promise you that it will be a birthday that you won't forget… and a good one as well."
"Do you promise?"
"I promise, Bella. I promise you on my life that it won't even compare to your eighteenth birthday," Alice said as she rushed to Bella's side. "We can even have it here. Your place is too small, anyways."
"I know, Alice. Just promise me that you'll actually invite people that I know and don't just invite guys," I said as I shook my head, seeing her smile falter. "I want to actually have fun at my birthday party."
I felt Jacob's eyes on me and for some odd reason, I hoped that he would be there, but I wasn't about to say that, especially with my brother and Alice in the room. Emmett would do God knows what and Alice would squeal with joy. She had wanted me to hook up with Jacob since she got Rosalie and Emmett together.
As I heard my watch beep, I hadn't even realized how late it was and my watch read ten o'clock. I needed to look my best as today had been rushed. I wanted to wake up in my own place and get ready instead of hearing Emmett and Rosalie having sex constantly like I had earlier. I only slept over because Emmett and Rosalie made me dinner. It was nice of them to do that and I forgot how much I missed Rosalie's cooking.
"I need to get going since it is pretty late," I said as I watched Alice put my doggy bag container in a bag. I laughed. "Thank you, Alice."
Alice shrugged. "No problem. Promise you'll call me on your lunch break?"
I nodded my head at her and I watched Jacob get up, throwing his doggy bag container in the trash since he had already eaten. He sure in fact did eat a lot the more I thought about it. He was like Emmett, who could eat three hamburgers and three hot dogs, and would still be hungry.
"I need to get going too. Have to get up early to go for my daily morning jog," he said.
"Hey, you two should run together. Bella runs every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday."
I glared at Alice, who just smirked at me. I was about to make a snide comment when I heard Jacob's velvety voice answer me.
"You know what?" Jacob began as he looked over at me, pulling the front door open. "That wouldn't be a bad idea. Where do you live?"
. . . . .
I was going to kill Alice. No, I was going to knock her down to the ground, but I knew that it was my fault. I could have said no to going for a run with Jacob Black this morning. I was waiting outside of my apartment complex since he agreed we could just go running. Here I was, in a pair of track pants, a white tank top underneath under my track jacket, and a pair of Sketchers. It was a little chilly but the weather was lovely enough so I could leave my jacket undone. I had my mp3 player in my hand while I waited for Jacob.
I must be nuts I thought the more I waited for Jacob. Although, the idea of running with him, while sweat rolled down his body – oh my God! What the hell was the matter with me? I never in my life thought of Jacob like this and it infuriated me to no extent where I thought I was literally going to go nuts.
I gasped as I saw Jacob, who had parked his truck besides my baby truck (compared to his) and he looked so damn good. He was wearing a muscle shirt that showed off those glorious abs, a pair of running pants, and he too had a mp3 player in his hand.
"Oh! Hi, Jacob," I said, my voice sounding a little higher than normal, and I bit my lip from embarrassment.
"Are you ready to get going?"
