No, there was no damn way it's her. She's dead. I saw her blood… unless -
As I moved quickly through the woods, only wearing the cutoff jean shorts over my hips, along with the worn out sneakers, I moved to the meadow, the grass looking too long the more I moved further and further to where I knew she was.
With her back facing me, I gasped. As she turned around, there I was – face to face with my best friend, who was a damn blood sucker!
"Bells?" I cried out as I looked over at her, taking a step forward. She took a step backwards.
"I'm sorry… but do I know you?"
My eyes widened in surprise when I heard her words. I never would have believed it that Bella would ever be a vampire. I then remembered what that red headed vampire meant right before Sam, Embry, Paul, and I had killed her.
Kill me if you want to. I came for what I wanted, and the deed is done.
Was this what she had meant? Victoria had been far too easy to kill because she basically gave up. She kept on rambling about her mate, James, but the only thing that mattered to me and the rest of the pack was to kill her. I had feared the worst and it was true.
Although, even though I had killed Victoria, I hadn't felt any closure at the time because Bella was still missing. Had I known she was a vampire – well, I didn't even know what I was going to do. Bella was my best friend. We had kept in touch with each other through letters after she had moved to Arizona with her mom.
"Am I supposed to know you?" she asked me with a raised eyebrow as she stared at me with an intense look.
That was when I really noticed her. Bella was gorgeous! Everything about her was more advanced than what it was before. Sure, her skin was paler than what it had been years ago, but it fit her to a perfect extent. Her heart-shaped face was what got to me. Her eyes were no longer that deep brown but a topaz color, making me realize that she fed from animals. Her hair curled at the end and damn – all around, Bella Swan looked damn good.
The more I looked at her, that bad smell of a vampire didn't even flood through my nostrils like it had when I smelled Victoria. Bella smelled beautiful like – flowers, along with strawberries and cream.
Yes, I had always loved Bella, but this was so much – my eyes widened when I realized what happened. I never thought that this would happen.
Hm, this boy was so strange, especially when he was staring at me with the most ridiculous smile on his face. It was like I was some sort of meal on his plate. Even though he was strange, I had to admit that he looked pretty good. Even though he was shirtless, he did look good. I knew that he was different. At least, that's what I was hoping for.
I waved my hand in front of his face, trying to get his attention somehow, and I watched him jump. "You're one strange cat."
I heard him growl low in his throat and I frowned. Was it something I said or something?
"Y-You really don't remember me?"
As I heard his words, I also noticed the sadness filling inside of his eyes, and I was so confused. Why did he look so sad when I didn't even remember him for that matter?
"Am I supposed to even remember who the hell you are?" I asked him, my eyes looking at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Bella, it's me, Jacob."
And then, my eyes went wide when I looked at him. "You're the one from my journal?"
"Huh… what are you talking about?"
"I don't really remember anything from my life. What I remember is a boy named Edward and his family and –"
"Damn leech," he growled.
How the hell could this even happen to me? Bella and I had known each other way longer than those leeches that basically had put Bella into danger. I just hoped that they would never come back. They had come back a few months after Bella had disappeared in Forks and I made sure to blame it all on that damn bronzed bloodsucker. Because of him, Bella was a vampire.
"Are you telling me you've got amnesia? You really don't remember me?" I asked, clenching my fists at my sides, my eyes looking over to Bella, and I took a deep breath.
"Who's Tanya?" I asked with interest.
"She's this vampire-"
"You're living with leeches?" I growled once again.
"Stop it," she said firmly, glaring at me, and she crossed her arms over her chest when she let her eyes glower over to my face. "Do you want me to continue or not?"
"No – I'm sorry. Please do continue."
"Tanya, she's from the Denali Mountains. Well, she and her sister did, but we live in Seattle. Kate and Tanya have been nothing but great. Garrett's been great as well."
"Who is Garrett?" I asked, trying to not get jealous, but hearing a man's name was not easy.
Oh. Um, he's Kate's mate," Bella told me as she continued. "Apparently, sometimes when someone is going through the transformation, they tend to forget things. Sometimes, they don't even remember their whole life or even their name… like me."
"Wait, what?" I asked in shock as I looked at Bella with wide eyes. "You don't remember your name?"
"I don't remember my last name. I instantly knew that my name was Bella," she said with a shrug of her shoulders as she looked down at the ground.
"Your last name – it's Swan, Bella Swan," I paused as I looked at her. "Actually, your full name is Isabella Marie Swan. Your middle name came from your father's mother…"
"Oh," she paused as she looked over at me when she lifted her head up from the ground. "How do you know this, anyways? Were we dating?"
I laughed softly as I shook my head. "No, we weren't dating, Bella. When you went missing, I helped out your parents. They told me stories of how happy you were."
I couldn't even imagine what she was going through – not remembering everyone or even her life. I just didn't understand how this could happen to her. Even though she was a bloodsucker, I had imprinted on her, and I didn't even want to think what the guys were going to say, especially since her stench was going to be all over me when I got back. I didn't need to think about that now.
"Bella, you… you can't come back to Forks. You just cannot see your parents, especially since you're a vampire," I tell her, hating that I had to, but she was a vampire.
I inhaled a deep breath. It wasn't like I needed to but it made me feel slightly better. I knew that I wouldn't be able to see them but it still hurt. After all, they were the ones that had given me life, and now I was practically dead to them for that matter. They had no idea where I was or even if I was alive.
"I know that," I mumbled as I looked down at the ground, and then my eyes looked back into his eyes – those mysterious dark eyes of his. "This is going to be the last time you will see me. I'm moving away, anyways."
"Y-You're leaving?" he gasped out as I simply nodded my head. "Y-You can't leave, Bella! I just got you back after you were gone for three years."
I looked into his eyes, and I had a feeling that there was more than that where I saw the pain. I didn't want to cause anyone pain. For some reason, hurting Jacob, it seemed wrong, and I frowned.
"I'm sorry but, you just said that I can't come back here," I said as I glanced to Jacob and ran a hand over the back of my neck.
"Well, yeah – but you're moving? Why? Where are you moving to?" He frowned as he looked at me, those deep eyes of his piercing into my golden ones, and I looked away.
As I finally got the courage, I looked back to Jacob, and I moved to a patch of grass where he moved to sit next to me. It was like a natural instinct for Jacob to follow me and I found myself smiling. I then became serious.
"Kate, Tanya, Garrett, and myself – well, we're moving to Chicago. The weather there is pretty great during the fall and the winter. Besides, they have a place there where there's room enough for me," I explained as I looked to him.
"I just got you back and I have so much to tell you, Bella – so much!" Jacob told me as he looked at me with serious eyes and he crossed his arms over his chest. "Do you think that we can meet here tomorrow? It's going to take a bit for you to understand."
After I said goodbye to Bella, we went our different ways, and I had to see Sam. He was the only one that understood. Well, he wasn't, but I didn't feel like talking to Jared. Jared was too mushy when it came down to Kim and I didn't need that type of relationship. When I reached Sam and Emily's house, I knocked on the door several times until Emily opened the door with a smile on her face.
"Hey, Jacob," Emily said as she stepped aside. "Come in."
I immediately walked inside, my face flushed, and I walked into the kitchen where Sam was. My whole body felt like it was on fire and I hated that feeling. I saw the serious, confused look on Sam's face. He was the Alpha of the pack. He had offered it to me when I first became a wolf but running a pack was something that I just did not desire.
"Whoa man, what happened? You look like you've been hit by a bulldozer. What happened?"
I wasn't even sure what Sam was going to do when he found out. I was so thankful that as a human, he could not hear the thoughts running in my head. This was something that I never in my wildest dreams thought would even happen.
As Emily walked back to the stove to finish cooking dinner, I sighed, and I ran a hand through my short hair. My eyes looked over to Emily before my eyes looked back to Sam. As my face became serious, I sat down in the chair across from Sam.
"I didn't do this intentionally, but you know that."
"Man, what are you talking about? You are making it sound like you did something pretty bad," Sam said with a shake of his head as he looked over to me. "Spit it out. What is making you all crazy?"
"I imprinted on –"
"Man, that's great!" Sam said with a big smile as he turned to look at Emily. "Babe, did you hear that?"
Emily laughed. "How could I not? You guys aren't so quiet. Congratulations, Jacob!"
"Um… I'm not done. Sam, the thing is I… imprinted on a vampire. Bella's a vampire."
