BPOV

I immediately had two voices screaming at me intently.

“NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT, BELLA!”

“LOVE, WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?”

“You are my sister and I’m not about to let you do this.”

“I won’t let you go, I just got you back. I’m not going to lose you again. If I lose you, I lose myself. I can’t exist without you.”

“You. ARE. MY. SISTER!”

“No, Bella, no. It’s not an option.”

“Um, hello,” said Rose waving her hand, “care to fill the rest of us in?” They ignored her.

“Undo the decision, Bella. Undo.”

“Please. Do what Alice says. Undo it. I can’t bear to keep that thought in my head. Those images are blasphemy. You will not do that. Do you hear me?”

“Bella, please, I’m supposed to have two sisters, not one.”

I looked down at my left hand. I concentrated on the ring on my left ring finger. “Does it work?” I barely whispered the words, but I knew they heard me.

Silence.

“Edward, Alice, I don’t know what she chose, but does it work?” Carlisle had no idea what he was asking them to admit. Apparently someone said yes or nodded and I didn’t hear or see it, or perhaps I ignored it.

“Well then, what was it?”

“An unacceptable sacrifice,” was said in unison.

Everyone understood.

Then all hell broke loose.

Jasper was frantic and pissed-I felt it.

Esme sat sternly in a chair and shook her head “no” violently.

Rose growled louder than I have ever heard and hurled something through the front window. I had no idea where it landed or what it was. I was concentrating on my ring and Edward’s fingers intertwined with mine.

Emmet put his fist through the wall multiple times. If he didn’t stop he was going to bring the house down on us. Rose apparently had the same thought and grabbed his fist. With immense sadness in her eyes she made him stop. I could feel the fury wafting off of him.

Carlisle kept telling me how incredulous it was that I even fathomed making that choice. He kept telling me that it was wrong, I was his daughter and he would not let me sacrifice my life for theirs.

I lifted my head up and looked into my future (?) father-in-law’s beautifully golden eyes and simply said, “Isn’t that what the seven of you did for me? Seven left to save the life of one; why can’t one leave to save the life of nine, including my parents?”

“Bella, my sweet daughter, it’s not the same,” Carlisle tried to reason.

“You’re right, this is my choice now. I’m making the choice to save you, to stop them from hurting, any of you or Charlie or Renee. I’m going to stop them from knowing about the Pack. This time, we will have a chance to say goodbye. You seven left to save me, please let me save you.”

Silence filled the room. They did not breathe. My heart kept beating and my lungs continually filled with and expelled air.

I broke the silence, “You will have each other to lean on; to survive with. If we fight, I die and so do you. If we don’t fight, I die and so do you. Either way, we all die. We no longer have each other. If I volunteer, you live. If I volunteer, they don’t hurt you. If I volunteer, then Charlie and Renee live and grow old and die of old age-they have a full life,” I said quietly to the wall then turned to Alice for confirmation. She nodded,

“How full of a life are they going to live if you are not with them?” It was spoken from beside me. I could not look at him knowing that I had just damned him to a life of solitude. “How full of a life are we going to live knowing that you gave your life for ours? How I am supposed to go on and live a life without you by my side?”

His voice caught me off guard and I had to look at him because I could have sworn that he was crying.

“You go on because I am going to give my life so that you may live.”

“I cannot live without you.”

“Nor I without you, but I need you to watch over my parents for me,” I said as I placed my hands on either side of his face stroking my thumbs across them. “I need you to do this for me. I know that together we would have looked after them and cared for them, but now I need you to do this for me.”

He remained silent as he pulled me into his chest.

“I know you believe that you have no soul, I don’t agree with that sentiment. I truly believe that you have a soul. And that, if I’m not being to presumptuous, if I make it to heaven, I’ll be waiting there for you, for all of you.”

“Love, please stop it.”

“Tomorrow evening.”

“What’s that, Alice,” Esme questioned. They were all baffled, but I was not.

“I was going to ask her how long I had until…”

“It’s so soon,” Esme gasped throwing her hand up to her mouth.

Sorrow pelted the room. I looked at Jasper and he just stared at me. He was apologetic, but he was also losing his sister; his wife and sister were losing their best friend and sister; his brother a sister and best friend; his parents a daughter; and his other brother was losing his reason for being, his life, his soul mate, his wife. I could see all of that through his eyes. He not only felt sorrow for himself, but for his family.

“Alice, I don’t want you…not the exact moment”

“Ok, I won’t, I promise,” she said with her voice breaking.

Edward pulled back and looked at me with the strangest look in his eyes.

“I won’t have her watching for me and seeing exactly how I die. I won’t have these images being painted again and again in your head. I know you, Edward. I know that’s all that you would think of. I won’t have those be the memories you have of me. I won’t have my death be the last thing you see of me.”

I was instantly crushed into his body as his chest heaved. He breathed in and out faster. His body trembled. He was hyperventilating and shaking; he was having a panic attack.

“I…I…I….can’t live without you, Bella. I just can’t. I can’t watch the sun rise or the sun set knowing that you are not somewhere in the world watching it with me. I cannot go on knowing that you’ve been made someone’s snack!!

“Shhh….shhhh, baby,” I crooned in an attempt to soothe him. .

Alice was gone for a moment, but came back instantly with her laptop. She typed some letters on the keyboard and handed it to Carlisle. Edward’s head shifted back and forth between them. Neither was letting on what they were thinking; I knew what that perplexed looked on Edward’s face.

Carlisle nodded and gave a very slight smile. Alice grabbed my hand told me to trust her and pried me away from Edward. She looked at Edward and told him to trust her and that I would only be gone for two and a half minutes. Every minute, every second was now precious. I did not want to spend any of those away from Edward.
