BPOV (Let’s do the time warp aaagggaaaaiiiinnn-continuation of the last chapter, but still in the past-well get current and catch up soon, promise)

As Felix escorted me out of the doctor’s office he spoke. “Aro has instructed me to take you shopping. It seems you are outgrowing your clothing quite quickly,” he said as he looked down and acknowledged my now protruding belly and stretch marks. “Your children will need clothing as well and he decided a few days ago that you were to go shopping today.”

“A few days ago?”

“Yes, we heard both heartbeats the day after you arrived and just needed the doctor to confirm it. Now that it has been confirmed, your children have needs and we will help you provide for them.”

“That’s not necessary.”

“Aro believes it is and the only maternity store in the market is this way,” he said as he took my arm gently and maneuvered us to the left. We passed about seven stores before arriving at our destination.

“I will wait here. You are to purchase anything inside that you desire. It will be delivered to your room this afternoon.”

I nodded.

“And Bella, do not try anything. I will hear it and it will not be tolerated.”

I nodded again and entered the store. Two very pleasant and plump older women greeted me and directed me to a comfortable and oversized chair. They gave be a bottle of water and started to bring me a variety of clothing from dresses to yoga pants.

After selecting a variety of stretch cotton t-shirts and capris, shorts, and pants with a stretchable waistband in varying sizes, I choose a couple of capri pajama sets, some new panties and a couple of new bras as I was starting to burst out of the ones I had. I picked out a smocked spaghetti strapped shirt that was tailored to show off my big belly. I was actually excited to wear it. The final selection I made for myself was a couple of light jackets. It may have been summer, but at night I was still slightly chilled.

One of the women came up to me and asked, “Pink or blue?”

I smiled at her and said, “Pink times two.”

She and the other woman clapped and giggled as they started to bring me pink sleepers and onezies and headbands. Next were little pink dresses with diaper covers, little skirts and jumpers. I nodded yes to them with each thing they brought. They brought me a set of bibs that read “I love my mommy”, “I love my daddy”, “I love my grandpa” and “I love my grandma” and I lost it. I saw Felix look inside the store out of the corner of my eye and watch me for a few minutes.

I wanted my family to be experiencing this with me. I wanted to see Charlie light up when I told him he was going to be a grandfather. I wanted to hear my mom squeal at the same news. I wanted to see the reaction on Carlisle and Esme’s face when I told them they were going to be grandparents to half-human and half-vampire twins. Hell, I wanted to see Emmett’s reaction when I started to refer to him as Uncle Emmy. Mostly I wanted to feel Edward’s hands on my stomach cupping our tiny daughters in his hands through my stomach. I wanted to feel him kiss my stomach at night and hear him read, sing, or play for them.

Through my tears I saw the women kneel next to me in an attempt to comfort me. They brought me a couple of tissues and another bottle of water. I told them that I was ok and it was just hormones they nodded that they understood, hugged me, and continued shopping for me.

After Felix paid the women, he escorted me back to the castle. “Are you alright? Aro would be concerned if you were not happy.”

“It is just hormones. They go wild during pregnancy.”

He did not speak another word as we walked into the castle and escorted me to my room. He opened my door and I walked in and was appalled. The wardrobe had been moved to the opposite side of the room and in its place was a changing table. On either side of the table was a cherry cradle with a pink bumper and pink sheets. The chaise had also been placed flat against the wall across from the bed and tall five-drawer dresser faced it and was placed to the left of the cradle.

It hit me all at once; he expected me to raise our daughters here. I was not going to. Thoughts about their safety had briefly entered my mind over the past few days, but I been able to keep them at bay and not freak out. That was no longer true. There was no way I was going to allow someone other than Edward and myself to raise our girls, or in the worse-case scenario that neither he or I could raise them, our family. I didn’t want to be here, I didn’t to give birth here, and I did not want my children raised here. Buying clothing was one thing, but the furniture made it all too real.

“Get that crap out NOW!” I said it with such ferocity that both Demetri and Felix’s eyes grew wide. They nodded and hauled the dresser, changing table, and cradles out of the room. I knew Aro was going to hear of what happened and have a talk with me, but I didn’t care.

Giovanni brought me my dinner and I ate it quietly.

“Sucha beautiful mother-to-be should nota be so sad.”

“I’m sorry Giovanni. I have just had a very hard day.”

“Thena hopefully desserta willa cheer you up.”

“Giovanni, what have you done,” I said jokingly.

“Crème Brule cheesecake is whata I did.”

“Oh Giovanni that looks delicious!”

“I hopea you enjoy.”

“Thank you.”

After Giovanni left, I had a few bites of the cheesecake then covered it and took a long hot shower. I got dressed in the bathroom and found Aro standing at one of the windows looking out over Volterra as I was towel drying my hair.

“Bella, your actions this afternoon were less than pleasing.”

“Seeing the furniture was just too much, Aro. It was more than I could handle today.”

“We are doing our best to keep you happy and healthy and alive,” he seethed as he turned toward me. “The way you reacted this afternoon was ungrateful and any similar reaction will not be tolerated. My patience and generosity only go so far.

If you did not like the nursery furniture, you merely had to ask for it to be removed, not demand. Demetri and Felix were under orders to do what kept you happy and that’s the only reason the furniture was removed.”

“I understand.”

“I will keep the furniture out until you are ready to have it moved back in, but another reaction such as yours this afternoon will result in my hospitality no longer being provided to you.”

“Yes, Aro.”

He walked out the door in a flash. I got into bed and cuddled up with a pillow next to me. I pretended it was my husband and cried myself to sleep on “his chest”.

The next few days went without incident. There was another visit from the doctor who said my pregnancy was progressing well and that my vitals were perfect. He also told me that I was having two girls. He said I was eighteen weeks along and they were positioned perfectly for him to be sure. I was going to have two beautiful, amazing little girls.

Aro had held off on having my purchases delivered until he was sure my behavior was to his approval. When the bags finally arrived, I spent part of my day sorting through them and putting them away. I found a book in the bottom of one of the girls’ bags that I had not purchased; a book of baby names.

I started to thumb through the pages and found the book has half girl names and half boy names. I turned to the first page of girl names and read through until I found one that sort of sounded cute.

“Audrey.”

As soon as I said that name, I was kicked on the left side of my stomach. That was the first kick and I gasped in surprise. I put my hand on that same spot and pushed in slightly. She kicked back. I did that a few times until I figured I might be making her mad and maybe if I kept her happy, she and her sister would stay off my bladder tonight.

“Was that a yes or a no for Audrey?”

Two kicks.

“I’m guessing that two kicks is no?”

One kick. When she kicked me I wondered how odd it was that I was communicating with my daughter who I had been pregnant with for eighteen days, but was eighteen weeks along. I pushed that thought out of my head and continued with calling out names.

“Ok, we will start with baby over here,” I said as I poked my left side. “If you like a name, don’t kick and if you don’t like it kick.” I grabbed a pen from the bedside table and lay back against the headboard with a pillow between it as a buffer.

“Abby?”

Kick.

“Adele?”

Kick.

“Alicia?”

Kick.

“Aubrey?”

Kick.

“Brenda?”

Kick.

“Brittany?”

Two kicks.

“Well, I guess you really don’t like that one. Um, Carrie?”

Kick.

“Camilla?”

Kick.

“Cecelia?”

Kick.

“Charlotte?”

No kick.

“You like Charlotte, don’t you?” Then it dawned on me, “We’ll call you Charlie for short. Actually, I’d like to name you Charlotte Renee, if that’s ok with you. That’s my mommy and daddy’s name.” A few tears fell down my cheeks and I felt a movement on the side of my belly and put my hand there. Charlotte was rubbing my belly and letting me know everything was ok. “That is very sweet of you Charlotte; now let’s try to find your sister a name.”

I wiped the tears from my cheeks and started again. I went through thirty-two names before finding she liked. I told her I didn’t like Kaylee, but that I did like Kailee (Ki-lee) and she agreed. She would be Kailee Elizabeth.

“Ok, now that we have that figured out, mommy is sleepy so will you let her get some sleep tonight and stay off her bladder?”

They both kicked once at the same time. “Thank you girls. Mommy and daddy love you good night.” I kissed each one of my hands and placed them on each side of my stomach. After that, I curled up next to Pillow Edward and fell asleep.
