Please review or rate! The Cullens, Jacob, and Seth move to New Hampshire, where a new vampire comes into their life; but not before a devastating car accident alters Bella's family forever. EXCERPT: Edward sat back down on the bed next to me, and held the neatly-wrapped package out to his daughter. “This is from your mother and me; happy birthday,” he said gently. While her eyes were transfixed on the package, I shot him a silent thought. What is this? He just smiled and left me hanging. Renesmee slowly turned and walked towards the package, thrilled at the prospect of an unexpected treasure. She took the box and carefully untied the ribbon. When she lifted the top of the box, she revealed a stunning gem in the shape of a heart. It was identical to the one Edward gave me after graduation, but instead of a flawless and colorless diamond charm meant for a bracelet, it was a blood red ruby attached to a delicate, silver chain and meant to be worn around her neck.

As our guests began to take their leave, exchanging hugs and handshakes, and it warmed me to see Jacob and Seth’s families laughing easily with the Cullens and wishing us well.
When I said goodbye to Billy and Sue, both holding their copies of the family portrait, it hit me that our move would be just as hard on them as it was on Charlie. When we left for New Hampshire, Billy and Sue would also say goodbye to their children.
It was one of those moments when, if I had tears, they would have started to fall.
Edward slid his arm around me. “Are you okay?” he whispered quietly.
Yes, I shared, nodding. Just wishing we could take them all with us.
He leaned over and kissed my forehead.
Right then I felt an unexpected sense of calm and optimism come over me, and when I realized what was happening, I did my best to cut through the happy feelings and glare at Jasper. It’s not that I preferred to feel sad, but having someone else change your mood without your consent could be extremely annoying.
As usual, he just smiled and shrugged at me. “Sorry, Bella. You looked like you really needed it.”
Perhaps out of all of us, Jasper had changed the most since the Volturi left. My time as a newborn vampire was unlike anything Jasper, or any of the Cullen family, had ever witnessed.
It usually took years for new vampires to gain the mental balance and control required to live among humans. I, however, skipped that phase completely. The ease with which I slid into life with my new family shocked them all, and greatly challenged Jasper’s already shaky will to adhere to an all animal diet.
Everyone in the family had a theory as to the cause of my extreme self control, but only I knew the real reason. I promised Edward I could do this. For me, nothing was more important in those first few days and weeks than shielding him from any additional guilt or pain he might feel about ending my human life.
Everyone in my immortal family, including Edward, would have understood if I had given in to the painful and overpowering urge for human blood; in fact, they would have forgiven me immediately. But my grief in doing so, the feelings of remorse I would have experienced at the taking of a human life, they would have been a mere piece of sand compared to the vast desert of guilt Edward would have experienced for turning me a murderer.
I wouldn’t do that him.
Regardless of why my time as a newborn was so different, it completely messed with Jasper’s head. When he realized I wasn’t ever going to snap, that I had control over my urges, Jasper left us for a while. I felt horribly guilty, knowing that it was me that had shaken him to the core and driven him to question himself so harshly.
Alice was a rock while Jasper was gone. She always saw him returning to us in her visions, and he didn’t disappoint her. He came home after three months, and when he did, it was with a new confidence and resolve that never wavered again.
And though their bond was already incredibly strong, Jasper and Alice’s relationship strengthened after he came back. Since she no longer spent her time monitoring his future for potential slips like some sort of worried parent, they were finally, truly equals in this life together.
The party was over, and Carlisle, Esme and Alice busied themselves with putting the house back to rights. Emmett, Rosalie and Jasper, having already said their goodbyes, went to hunt, and Jacob, Seth and Renesmee drove her new best friend back to its stable on the reservation.
Renee and Phil were all packed up, and Charlie was ready to take them to the airport. Edward and I stood on the front porch and said our goodbyes.
Charlie grabbed me and gave me a hug. “So, you’ll come by before you leave next week?”
“Definitely. And you’re coming out to visit in two months, right?” I reminded him.
“Wouldn’t miss it,” He said stoically. He gave me another hug. “I love you, Bella.”
“I love you, too, Dad, and I’ll see you in a couple days.” He nodded and stuck his hand out towards Edward. “Take care of them, Edward.”
Edward took it and shook it firmly. “I will, Charlie, always.”
“So,” said Renee, getting excited about a new place to visit. “Call me when you get there, and tell me all about your new house. I can’t believe it has a pool and stables! Is it true Jacob and Seth are going to drive that horse all the way across the country?”
“Apparently,” I said, hugging her, and then Phil, goodbye. “I just hope he knows what to do with it once it’s out there.”
“Oh, honey, this is going to be such an adventure. I love you so much. You take care of each other, okay?” Renee hugged me again and reached out and squeezed Edward’s arm.
“We will. I love you, too. Have a safe flight,” I said, holding onto her a minute longer.
When they drove away, I stood on the steps with Edward by my side, and wrestled with the storm of emotions inside of me.
The next time I came back to live in Forks, all of our friends and family would be gone. Even the werewolves in Sam’s pack would begin to age again without the presence of vampires. This moment marked the end of an indescribably perfect era in my life, and it took every ounce of strength I had to stand there and let the moment pass.
Finally, Edward took my hand. “Come on, love. Let’s go say goodbye to the meadow.”
I nodded at him gratefully; it was exactly what I needed. Our meadow was still the one place I thought of as exclusively ours. As I went to take his hand, Alice’s voice called out my name, and something about the tone of her voice stopped us in our tracks.
