I watched, smiling, as my family gathered around the huge christmas tree that Emmett had dragged inside earlier this week. We dont usually have a tree but Annabelle had insisted we have a "pwoper cwistmas". I smiled down at my wife, Esme, as she sat on the floor playing with our great-grandaughter. I was so relieved that we had Edward back, and I had my wife's love back. Now i had experienced it, i still couldnt imagine what this situation had done to Bella last time it happened. That time, she had none of this family with her, and instead of a week, we were gone for almost a year. I knew Edward regretted his decision and i respected him for that.
Charlie had just arrived, and as we heard him walk up the driveway, i glanced over at my son and my newest daughter, Edward and Bella, and was filled with joy as they now had each other again. I still remembered a time before Edward had met Bella, and how he had never felt joy or happiness i remembered how the only love he had experienced with someone other than a vampire, as with his mother.I also remembered how, when i thought of Elizabeth Masen, how hurt and in pain Edward looked. I have thought of his mother a few times since he had Bella, and saw how it no longer troubled him. I was glad to have him back, and he would never know how much his words meant to me, from his letter.
Carlisle, thank you for giving me love, life, happiness and laughter. You saved my family endless times and you gave me a reason to want to live, or exist. thank you for a great life with you, Dad. When you changed me, the day my blood mother died, i resented you. but i now see why you did it. you went through grief when my mother died too, but you still found the courage to help me.
I glanced up at Edward now, and saw him smile at me, obviously hearing this train of thought. He looked at me for a little longer before looking back over to Charlie, who was helping Annie open her presents.
Getting Edward back, and seeing him happy, that was the best christmas present anyone could ever wish for.
