I stepped closer to the magistrate. “What are you doing to those children?”

“They’re being burned for witchcraft,” he replied, turning to look at me. He smiled cruelly. “There is no place in this world for them.”

“No place for witches? What of devilishly rakish men like me?” I grinned.

“Lord Aro,” he laughed, “you are no devil. You’re too kind.”

My smile grew, twisting into a macabre grin. I rested my hand on his shoulder, squeezing it briefly. A single, long finger traced a path down his neck. I felt him shudder, turning to glance at me.
